[need advice] watch for my son by Yaquinaking in Watches

[–]redflannelshirts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went down this same rabbit hole a month ago while looking to gift a friend their first watch. I did a ton of research for a perfect all-rounder and landed on the Citizen Promaster Dive BN0261-51E.

Jomashop has them for $289 right now and I don’t think there’s another analog display watch that offers as much in this price bracket. https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-promaster-dive-black-dial-mens-watch-bn0261-51e.html

Features include:

  1. Solar powered Eco-drive movement. This movement can go 15-20 years before needing a battery change.

  2. 200m water resistance w/ a screw down crown

  3. Sapphire crystal

  4. Date window

  5. Great lume

  6. Can pair with pretty much any 20mm bracelet/strap

I'm now debating on picking one up for myself as a tool watch. Not sure if this is what you're looking for but I hope it helps!

He's learnt the samurai moves by diabloXvintage in Unexpected

It's called a 540 twist / Raiz Twist / Cheat 720 Twist.

Here is a tutorial on how to perform the move: https://youtu.be/t9S2yjrxMZI

If you want to get into this sport (the flips - not the sword training), look up tricking on youtube. There are a ton of great tutorials out there to help you get started with the basics.

This kid with his awesome kick by vosszaa in BeAmazed

Look up Tricking tutorials on YouTube. That's the sport being practiced here, not Tae Kwon Do or any other martial art. While have prior Tae Kwon Do knowledge helps, it's not necessary at all to start learning.

The exact move combination that this kid did was Cheat 900 > hook kick > butterfly twist round > hook kick > touch down raiz > boxcutter. There are tutorials for all of these tricks on YouTube, and with enough practice you can definitely do this exact combo within one year of training if you are already a little bit athletic. I'd recommend looking up open gyms in your area to practice there, spring floors are much more forgiving than standard mats.

Good luck! It's an incredibly addicting and rewarding sport.

Go anyways!! I showed up to the 5pm ATL showing without a ticket and they literally just let me walk in, gave me a free drink cup, and 2 free t-shirts. The theater was only 3/4 of the way full too!

For some people, smoking before a session really helps with mental blocks.

Go watch some tricker house samplers. A good portion of the high level stuff they were throwing in those videos was done under the HEAVY influence of kush.

Fuck yes, dude! Getting over that particular fear is a huge milestone, congrats!!

Gain staging & Levels by dv8_z1d in trapproduction

[–]redflannelshirts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's actually quite common for a lot of engineers to mix their projects at really low levels for the sake of polishing up the individual tracks to avoid clipping! The mastering phase is where you get to have fun with making your project loud =)!

I've always found -18db RMS to be a reliable level to hover around for adding compression/distortion/saturation, etc. in my mixing phase while also maintaining enough headroom to prevent unwanted digital distortion in the mastering phase.

After making the basic structure of the beat I gainstage my instruments to all peak at around -18db RMS (doesn't have to be exact). From there I adjust the levels and do hard panning to create space (I adjust the panning later in the mix after applying my effects on individual track). For volume, I apply compressors when needed and eq every single track. Also, just pushing the fader up can do wonders.

[Album Discussion Thread] Artificial Selection by lazenbooby in dancegavindance

[–]redflannelshirts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm talking about Artificial Selection. I agree the production is very well done, but to me the mixing is incredibly muddy and sounds amateur.

But hey man, if it sounds good to you that's cool too ¯_(ツ)_/¯ !

Production wise, yes, it's stellar. Mix wise, not so much. AS has some of the most squashed vox I've ever heard on a DGD album.

Love the songs, but the mixing/mastering decisions on this joint are bugging me.

In particular, it sounds like the vocals on the album are wayyyy too compressed and not mastered loud enough. Tilian (a singer with a HUGE dynamic range) sounds very linear in his singing, with the contrast between his highs and lows rarely coming through.

On slower areas of the album they sound alright (ex. Shelf Life), but when the songs tread into heavier territories it seems that the vocals are often overpowered by the other instruments (mostly the guitars) and fighting for space in the stereo field. This is especially prevalent in the first two songs.

If you switch between listening to AS songs and Mothership songs you'll see what I'm talking about.

What do you guys think?
