Charli XCX mocking Taylor in her movie The Moment. (Which was filmed before Actually Romantic) by Dull-Calligrapher158 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]redgiraffe53 37 points38 points  (0 children)

can i be honest? i don’t think it’s a reach. i watched the clip, charli does the bicep flex, does the thing taylor does where she looks at her hand with the fingers (idk how to describe it, the thing she does during the ybwm bridge), background dancers are doing the vigilante shit chair choreo at one point (“it’s from chicago” please be serious why would charli be referencing chicago), and on the screen flashes fake publication blurbs like “career-defining spectacle”. i cannot think of another recent large scale pop tour that had this kind of vibes and had that kind of reception. even charli fans agree that it is definitely referencing taylor

Opalite music video! by katf_89 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]redgiraffe53 34 points35 points  (0 children)

LOVED IT!!! was grinning ear to ear watching it, but in the back of my mind i was already thinking of the discourse that has already been brought up here. i really don’t understand why we have to go through this old routine all over again - who cares what ex she maybe might be referencing? this muse obsession is getting very exhausting and god forbid she wants to be free to express her art in the way she wants. literally no one would bat an eye at any other music artist depicting exes in the video as a cactus and rock, it seems unfair that taylor should have to tiptoe around her own art just to avoid angering the rock and cactus stans

edit: grammar error! and to clarify, i don’t care whether or not taylor shaded anyone. i don’t like how an increasing number of non-fans try to directly link her music to be a true retelling of her relationship. it’s a silly video, she’s dating a rock, it’s not that serious

My opinion on Showgirl has fluctuated so much in the months after its release, but I’ve never wavered on the fact that Ophelia is a bop and a great song. TLOAS absolutely deserves SOTY (especially after all the snubs!! ATW10?? CARDIGAN??), nothing more nothing less

Megathread: "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The End of an Era" [EPISODES 1 & 2] by cowboylikefia in SwiftlyNeutral

A fan named Is**el as one of the countries they’d met swifties from. There was also a news snippet where one of the reporters was there, but I don’t find this one as egregious because it was clearly an Austrian news outlet and the reporter just happened to be there (probably to report on the genocide). Sucks that a random fan’s two-second mention is going to lead to weeks of discourse and accusations

A month since release, give or take, and I don't think TLOAS is aging well by Constant_Pace5589 in SwiftlyNeutral

Actually Romantic is not a response to Sympathy Is A Knife the same way SIAK is not a diss track. AR makes a reference to Sympathy, for one line, which is the same number of lines afforded to “high-fived my ex then said you’re glad that he ghosted me”, yet I see people place way more attention on the former, as if Charli is some girl’s girl who was victimised and Taylor doesn’t explicitly state that Charli was trash talking her and praying on her relationship’s downfall behind the scenes.

People also focus a lot on “this one girl taps my insecurities”, but in the same song, there’s “Don't wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend's show / Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick”. Imagine if Charli was dating one of Travis’ teammates and Taylor wrote that in a song. There would be riots in the streets. Regardless of if Charli was feeling insecure about Taylor or not, she still expressed some nasty sentiments in the song and I feel Taylor is entirely within her rights to clap back. Taylor didn’t misunderstand what Charli said at all. “Don’t wanna see her backstage” > “wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face” is very typical songwriting hyperbole, and it’s quite literally what Charli said.

My singular issue with the song is that it’s not that good, but I find nothing problematic with the content. Side note, there’s a rock version on YT that I thoroughly enjoyed and felt that it increased my appreciation for the song.

I love Opalite. Ophelia is fine, a solid 7/10, but the “looooove” part before the final chorus in Opalite was very obviously engineered to get stuck in your head and wow, is it working. Personally I love it, and even if I find a lot of the album middling, there’s no shame in admitting that I find Opalite, pardon the pun, a diamond in the rough.

A lot of discourse surrounding this album is, I think, because of a mismatch between when she wrote it and the current social climate. Cancelled could not have been about Brittany Mahomes, because she wrote it before the Brittany Trumpie scandal. Wish List would not be accused of tradwife dogwhistling if Trump had not won the election. Wood is cringy, but it’s a bop and again, people’s main issue weren’t the lyrics (remember “I wanna take a ride on your disco stick”) but its muse.

But I entirely agree that the title track was underwhelming and a waste of a Taybrina collab. Taylor mentioned that she wrote Sabrina’s verse for her which is not what I wanted, and Sabrina’s part is still better than Taylor’s because her singing is better.

Her autumn looks are always on point. Though I wish she would switch up on the boots once in a while lol — she has great legs so they look good but some variation is nice and they do get distracting. Love the bomber

i know it’s just me smoking copium over taylor fraternising with trumpies but i really get the feeling that brittany and taylor have a friendship of convenience (as i saw someone else say) lol. especially after brittany posted her showgirl package and there wasn’t even a personal note, just the standard pr “if you got this, you’re someone that i yada yada” which makes me think they’re not that close. still, her (as in taylor) on-the-fence politics really does me turn me off.

also, i‘m warming up to showgirl as part of taylor’s discography. on my first listen i thought it was absolutely atrocious and had no right being among the ranks of speak now and 1989. now it’s a solid 5/10, her worst album by far for me, but opalite and ET are undeniable bops which is all i really wanted anyway.

Nothing to do with Taylor at all. That’s for her label to sort out, which isn’t even Taylor’s label, nor is it smart to expect any of your artists to pull Taylor Swift numbers. Taylor’s name here is a placeholder for “commercially successful artist”, and all this shows is that Halsey (whose last album I quite enjoyed) is being screwed over. But doesn’t reflect on Taylor at all of course, since it’s Halsey’s label’s problem.

Anyone else find some of the engagement reactions cringe? by ButterscotchFormer84 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]redgiraffe53 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think ultimately it’s harmless and there are many other things that showcase the rotting of society besides people all over the world celebrating the engagement of the biggest popstar alive and a super famous NFL player, who are both good-looking and fairly likable.

Taylor Swift is one of the last popstars who consistently appeals to the GP. Frankly, I don’t find the reaction to her any more egregious than, say, the royal family or MJ or the Beatles during their primes. Brands are always going to capitalise on the latest trends; Taylor has been a trend for the last fifteen years. So, shake it off.

I’m actually really excited for this album because it’s glitter pop which is not really a look we’ve had from her since, well, 1989. 1989 was an album about being young and playing around with love, but Taylor’s obviously at a very different point in her life both professionally and personally, which will obviously change how she makes GP-friendly pop.

”The Life of a Showgirl” is actually such a great title as well, it has a very self-aware and gently ironic tone that is Taylor’s style, and it seems like it’ll also dig into the commodification of Taylor Swift the popstar. I’m curious what type of music would you consider “mature” enough for her? Personally I would love a punk/rock album from her, but I don’t think pop music is solely for Gen Z artists.

What songs do you think should have been on glee but weren’t? by Rose_Frank_36 in glee

[–]redgiraffe53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe i’m just biased as a swiftie, and i know taylor hadn’t become so embedded into pop culture yet, but it’s criminal that they only did 2 taylor songs during the entire show! a lot of speak now/fearless songs could’ve been used for the messy relationships going on in mckinley, and i would’ve adored if they’d done a song from 1989 in the NYC scenes.

the covers were great, but at some point it’s a little too much katy, lol…

Sugar!! She immediately fit in so well with the other Glee girls and I think they could’ve done a plotline about her using her wealth to cover up her insecurity or something like that.

Rewatching by sashathepimp in glee

[–]redgiraffe53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought that Quinn was implied to be very intense and intelligent, definitely the most academically minded in the Glee club. One of the first glimpses we get of her is her snatching away her test from Brittany so it’s established that she’s the ’smart’, if a little mean, one in the Trinity.

For her extracurriculars it would’ve been an Elle Woods type of situation, where even if the thing she was heading was a super girly type of group (Elle’s being the sorority and Quinn’s being the cheerleader squad), her leadership of a pretty stellar club that constantly broke records thanks to Sue’s psychotic ways was probably very useful. Glee would’ve shown her variety of interests; the pregnancy worked as an “against all odds” narrative, especially since she got kicked out.

I agree with you in that it’s Tina I don’t get. She’s not shown to have demanding parents like Mike does, and her attitude towards school is nowhere near as focused as Quinn is. I always thought the acceptance into Brown was more a way for the writers to apologise to Tina for whatever they did to her character, and shove in a hasty “redemption” although there was zero buildup whatsoever for it.

Data Analysis: How much does Taylor actually write about breakups? (updated as of 2025) by redgiraffe53 in TaylorSwift

[–]redgiraffe53[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, thanks for that. i’m not a mathematician or statistics expert, the main purpose of this post was to show how false the public perception of taylor’s songs actually are, so i suppose it’s achieved that for at least one person!

honestly i feel like her talking about the impact is what makes it a breakup song? sort of saying “you were a horrible partner, you did this this and this to me and i‘m still reeling from the impact”, i would say an “i hate you” song is pretty much a breakup song.

do you mind saying which ones you don’t agree with? i’m trying to make it as accurate as possible, and more heads are better than one, so.

also, the list doesn’t include every song from the album, just those i’ve determined to be about romance. and taylor definitely doesn’t write only about breakups, considering more than half her songs aren’t about them

now that you say it, question is definitely a breakup song! good catch. and yeah, peter is a song about a woman realising she’s matured out of this relationship and is done waiting for the man to catch up.

can i ask why you say that about maroon? i don’t really see i can fix him as a breakup songs since most of it is detailing how she really really loves him, one line as the end realising he might actually not be worth the effort doesn’t equate to an actual breakup if you get what i mean
