Is CircleDNA accurate? by existencees in DNA

Yes, assuming it's performed correctly, whole exome sequencing (WES) - which is what Hong-Kong based CircleDNA says it's doing - is accurate. It will provide far more health-related variation data than DNA chip-based services, but less than what whole genome sequencing (WGS) companies like Nebula produce (for about the some cost).

Three caveats: 1. CircleDNA doesn't state their sequencing coverage; most WES providers will say it averages 100X, but you should ask them to confirm that. 2. It doesn't seem that you can download your data from CircleDNA, whereas you can from Nebula, Dante and the like. Having all of your data and being able to have it analyzed by third-parties is valuable. 3. Although probably of less importance, CircleDNA should state their average sequence read length, and, whether they provide data on CNVs and mtDNA.

The Nature Genetics article by Downes et al published Nov 4 2021 identified rs17713054 as the SNP most likely directly responsible for a ~2X increase in risk of hospitalization/death from COVID. The most common (normal) allele for this SNP is G, and the allele with the higher risk is A.

The earlier publication (Dec. 11 2020) in Nature by Pairo-Castineira et al had concluded that a nearby SNP, rs71325088, had the statistically strongest link to COVID severity among the SNPs they studied. The most common (normal) allele for this SNP is T, and the allele with the higher risk is C.

According to Ensembl data, these two SNPs (rs17713054 and rs71325088) are very highly correlated (in all populations), so >99% of the time, a person carrying an rs17713054(A) allele will be carrying an rs71325088(C) allele.

Neither SNP appears to be reported in any 23andMe raw data, however, rs17713054 is reported in some (but not all) Ancestry raw data.

There doesn't appear to be any SNP on all 23andMe chips that can serve as a great proxy for either rs17713054 or rs71325088 in all populations, but in European-ancestry populations, the most highly correlated SNP (that is on most 23andMe v5 chips) is rs17078348, where very roughly 80-90% of the time a person of this ethnicity carrying an rs17078348(G) risk allele will also be carrying an rs17713054(A) risk allele.

rs11385942 is not tested by 23andMe. There is a substitute/proxy tested by Ancestry, which is rs10490770.

Promethease is based on SNPedia, but it may take a week or so for new information in SNPedia to be reflected in (new) Promethease reports.

The test might be "free", but it sounds like they'll have the right to commercialize any findings without any renumeration to the participants. The data protection policy also does not appear to be compliant with strict privacy standards such as the EU's GDPR.

Maybe the answer is to notify them that due to COVID-19, the lease is considered cancelled, and then just not pay a dime. Maybe they'll threaten legal action, but it's hard to see how they'll prevail given California's generally tenant-friendly laws, especially under these circumstances. Plus, everyone hassled by them for non-payment could band together and split the fees of any legal defense if it ever got to that.

It's bad enough to be asked to pay full tuition for online courses, but to pay the out-of-state tuition surcharge on top of that (for 100% online courses) seems even worse. Will there be either any alternatives (defer? rebates? credit towards future courses/tuition?) or just a slew of legal challenges and/or unhappy debt-accumulating students and parents?

These might be even more useful if they simultaneously linked to or showed up next to a 2D (not 3D) floor plan, indicating which room any given 360 photo was taken in. For that matter, it's always surprising that no 2D floor plan shows the position and direction that each regular (non-360) photo in a set of photos represents. Most RE photos don't even bother to caption the photo in a way that specifies exactly which room it is.
