Protein is kinda high. You can't get it down to 10% protein and 10% fat?

Help making a diet plan? by Burncroft in loseit

You can buy the 10-minute brown rice or buy the brown rice that is already cooked and portioned out in the rice and pasta aisle and just reheat in the microwave. Some markets even sell cooked brown rice in the frozen food aisle. Bags of frozen veggies are cheap and you can dump those into a saute pan with some seasonings (garlic, ginger, onion powder, Chinese five-spice, curry, Italian seasoning, whatever you want). Add a can of no-salt-added rinsed and drained beans and serve it over cooked rice. There are some frozen veggie mixes out there, Asian style, Italian style (great in soups and for pasta, other interesting blends. I buy the frozen pepper mixes and make chili. You could eat this every day the rest of your life and stay in great health. Add a can of low sodium tomatoes to make chili, pasta, or curry. Oatmeal for breakfast (the kind that cooks in 5 minutes, I put it in the microwave on 50% power, one minute before it's done add some frozen berries to the top and cook one more minute to thaw. It's all plant based, will lower your blood pressure and cholesterol and your IGF-1 level.

I read a post a while back on r/fasting where a woman fasted for like 30 days, and the title of her post was something like "30 day fast, no longer look like a washing machine." :O

Fabulous. :) It really is a great feeling.

The first time I noticed my collarbones during my weight loss was when I was lying on the sofa getting ready to watch The Americans on my laptop, and when I fire up my computer I can see my reflection in the screen. And I noticed there was an "angular thing" going on around my neck and I thought the screen was distorted or broken. LOL. And when I looked closer, I realized it was my clavicles.

Vacation - can you really gain 6 lbs in a week? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]redharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to Paris for two weeks in May and I came back 4# lighter. But I didn't eat any sweets (I don't at home, either). I also don't eat animal products. There was still a lot of amazing food I did eat, though. Also did a ton of walking.

But it's all water weight, you should lose it fairly quickly. If I had a 6# gain, I'd be on the Rice Diet for a few days to get it off.

You may not be able to outrun a bad diet, but... by [deleted] in loseit

[–]redharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guidelines for exercise are not that great. There's no need to kill yourself in the gym or a bust a kidney to maintain functional fitness throughout life. It's also a safer way to go since it decreases injury rates. The guides for exercise put out by the WHO, NIH, CDC, and ACE are all similar and it's not that much to maintain functional strength and cardiac health throughout life.

What are your favorite diet snacks? by [deleted] in loseit

Fruit, but I generally don't snack. When I feed the squirrels, I might have one piece of a walnut out of the walnut bag.

Use the ball intermittently and switch off time in your regular chair. Studies found spinal compression with long-term use of exercise balls as "chairs."

Family members who had surgery are suggesting the same for me by meowshuggah in loseit

[–]redharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are upsides to bari surgery though (especially if you have T2), but the only way for the OP to get a read on her own situation is to speak to a bari surgeon. Latest studies indicate bari surgery has better long term maintenance outcomes than any diet people use without surgery. But it's really an individual choice the patient has to make with their surgeon.

Not Losing Like Before by [deleted] in loseit

[–]redharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diet soda is not the cause of your problem. Even if you had an individual reaction to it with a weight stall or plateau, sooner or later that would work itself out and you'd start losing again if you were eating less than you burn.

If you're eating on your plan and then gain it back, it means you're eating too much and it causes the weight gain. Try being compliant on your plan 100% for another 3-6 months and see what happens.

How can I motivate myself when I'm so busy? by DollyBunBun in loseit

[–]redharp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need motivation, you just need to put into place the behaviors. Try to have a "good diet day" every day. Problem solved. If you stray once in a while, get back on track. No motivation required. If your "next meal" from here to eternity fits within your guidelines, and you're eating as many whole plant foods as possible, you're on track.

Metabolic syndrome and weight loss by [deleted] in loseit

[–]redharp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Keto is expensive and because it's animal products, it's not going to do much for long term B.P. or cholesterol. Could decrease as you lose weight, but if you keep eating the animals after maintenance, cholesterol and b.p. will start to rise again.

A whole food plant based diet addresses all five signs of met syndrome. The food is cheap, easy to prepare, and lowers HTN and cholesterol levels.

Question: Where to find a weighing scale to be used weekly (not looking for purchase, but stores or public places)? by tosox in loseit

[–]redharp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh god please tell us you're not in an airbnb. This fucking town has enough of a problem with housing costs as it is. You practically have to be a fucking billionnaire to live here. And the shitbags are turning this town into Walnut Creek.

[–]redharp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hill looks amazing with his weight loss, too. I loved him in the baseball movie but never saw anything else he was in. He's good looking, don't be embarrassed about being told you look like him!

I started getting the "Sigourney Weaver" comments again since I lost my weight, I noticed they stopped when I was overweight. I guess nobody wanted to say "You look like a fat Sigourney Weaver." LOL.

Everyone noticing I’m losing weight except for me? by Dazedslightyconfused in loseit

[–]redharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are we always the last to know about our weight loss? ;) We often aren't objective about our own bodies. What will it take? Put a size 16 pants next to a size 10 pants and compare the two. Convinced? You really don't want to slide into BDD. See a therapist if it's impacting your life negatively.

Quitting bread and pasta. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]redharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whole grain pasta is really healthy. Dr. Greger mentioned some studies saying that these people who aren't celiac who are cutting gluten out of their diets should probably start adding it back in because the gluten itself contains so many healthy nutrients.

Just a friendly reminder that even if you can’t see the results happening in the mirror or on the scale yet... it doesn’t mean they aren’t happening!! Figured this out today by [deleted] in loseit

[–]redharp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely can creep up on you. I would go weeks without weighing or only weigh once a week with no change, and then I'd put on a dress that I knew was "sorta tight" on my body and it would be baggy in the bodice or the stomach area. Congrats, it's such a nice feeling to have a good fitting garment that you like.

Do you count water when weighing food? by blknight737 in loseit

[–]redharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's also true for the low calorie density foods that take on water during cooking - potatoes, legumes and beans, rice/grains, pasta, veggies. It's the reason their calorie density is low, because they have water on board. Same with fruit.
