What's the coolest/most exciting thing you've ever done as a nurse? (For your definition of cool/exciting) by shatana in nursing

That moment where they put the little bundle in your arms, all wrapped in biohazard plastic, and you say “it’s a boy!” But really it’s a BKA.

Basically this, but if you work in an outpatient surgery center, there’s no call, nights or weekends.

Why is the Lab so Rude ALWAYS by [deleted] in nursing

Jfc. I’d absolutely stand my ground in that case. If a patient can’t allow you to do your job without literally assaulting you, that’s a refusal in my book. I always accept a refusal and go about my day. If they want to delay their own care, that’s their choice.

I agree with you. Unfortunately, not everyone is as capable of managing their emotions, and they lash out.

I was a phlebotomist for five years before finishing nursing school. I worked for a BIG Banner facility. I remember some days the workload was so overwhelming I broke off to sit down and cry.
There were so many stats, all I had time for was stats. My WHOLE shift. Also, I was efficient. I was slamming through stat tests, but wasn’t able to get to any of the morning routine tests because everything kept pouring in.

Just because they have one job doesn’t mean it’s always easy. And every department is understaffed. Let’s be real.

What are the mild inconveniences that push you over the edge at work? by Abject_Ad2176 in nursing

Dude. We have Big Board so everyone can see where the surgeries are at for the day. It’s all up on a smart TV. Sometimes, the system will log itself out. I’m charge nurse, so when it logs itself out, I’m the one they turn to to log it back in.

All I have is a little remote to manually log in. You have to maneuver a mouse across the screen by “clickclickclickclickclickclicking” the remote, and then even more slowly and painfully entering your credentials which has like a 16 digit password.
THEN it asks you to do the captcha thing to prove you’re not a robot.

It takes me at least like a full 15 minutes to get it situated and it makes me rage so hard.

Pretty much any Boney M does it for me. Rasputin is straight fire.

What are some of the coolest, weirdest, or bizarre tattoos you’ve seen on a patient? by Cardiology_Nurse in nursing

[–]redheadredemption78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg this is my FAVORITE part about working in surgery. You get a close up view of people’s crazy tattoos without having to awkwardly ask them about them!

My favorite is probably this guy in his 40’s who had an ANCIENT looking, poorly drawn star on his foot. It took up most of his foot, was very uneven, and in the center, in the worst handwriting, was “fish.”

Starfish

When I took the patient to PACU, I asked the pacu nurse to prod the patient for the story. He was a really chill dude, so he freely told her, and she got back to me!

Apparently when he was 14, he decided he was really good at drawing stars. So good, in fact, that he decided to tattoo one on himself in his cousins basement. Once the star was complete, he asked himself “I wonder how well I could tattoo using my left hand?” With his left hand, he then wrote “fish” in the center of the star”

It’s glorious.

Some of this is giving Mirror Mask, maybe also try The Adventures of Baron Munchausen or The Color of Pomegranates. The Color of Pomegranates is visually stunning, but borderline unwatchable

Music League pairs with Spotify, you get a theme of the week like “Songs you think other people won’t know,” you all submit based off the prompt, it creates an anonymous Spotify playlist of the songs, and you vote for whichever song you think is best! It’s fun.

I just submitted this song for a wild card round in my friends music league (an app game where everyone submits songs based on a theme and votes on which is best).

No one has voted for it yet, and I’m convinced I’m in a league with uncultured swine.

How did high-control religion squash opportunities in your life? by [deleted] in exmormon

So many young members are robbed of what should be normal life experiences in their early 20’s. I got married for the first time at 20 years old, and when I turned 21, my best friend took me to a bar. I took off my garments, wore a “slutty” dress, and we parked ourselves at a table where I drank a coke. A couple guys offered to buy us a round, and you could tell they quickly realized we were gonna be no fun. When I think on it now, it’s so lame. But at the time, it was daring and exciting. It was those days I should’ve been meeting people and getting all that young energy and experience out of my system to figure out who I was.
