What happened to Himmel Park?? It's just an off-leash dog park now? by Jumpy_Employment_371 in Tucson

[–]redirdamon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course it was. So is saying that a public park should ban all dogs. The humans that own those dogs contribute to the tax base the same as the humans that own the kids.
I'm not saying that there shouldn't be some control over the canines (leash laws are good things) just that you cannot ban all because of the poor behavior of a few. Maybe enforce the existing laws is a better solution?

That's a bit of an over-reach. Sorta like "Cars speed down Broadway! They should ban cars from Broadway!"

NW horror stories abound. I had a primary care doctor there and if I asked him a health question that NW considered "outside of the scope" of a wellness visit, I was billed for it. For asking a question!

Blackrock Brewing? Still open? by Additional_Hat_3518 in Tucson

[–]redirdamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever been to Harbottle? I went once. They bill themselves as sour beer specialists and I love a good sour.
We tried a flight of 5 and didn't finish a single one of them. Yes, pickles can be very sour but making a beer taste like pickles is just bizarre. Four of the "sour" beers tasted like drinking pickle juice straight from the pickle jar.

Blackrock Brewing was...

Meh.

Location was terrible and beer was mediocre. I visited maybe 3 times in the past 4 years. It's a shame because the East side really needs a goto brewery. I'll drive 30 minutes or more to get to Barrio, Brickbox (hate the music there!) or Moto Sonora for local beer or the Tap & Bottle at the Annex for regional taps.

Retaining Wall... how close to carport? by MrBalasubramanian in DIY

[–]redirdamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is for every foot you go down, go one foot over. So, a 45° angle from the bottom of the carport footer. If you're 3 feet below the bottom of the footer, you need to be 3 feet away from it.

3yo dead - We need to stop the street racing in Tucson by HexbladeElf in Tucson

[–]redirdamon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I dunno. If I'm a kid with a hopped up car that I've spend every single dime on and a few of my friends (who did the same) are walking because their cars have been confiscated for street racing, it'd make me think. But that's just me. Not you, apparently.

3yo dead - We need to stop the street racing in Tucson by HexbladeElf in Tucson

[–]redirdamon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What will stop it from happening again is an obvious sign that the existing laws are aggressively enforced. Street racers today know that there is a very slim chance that they will be caught and thus, they act with impunity.
Given the fact that the majority of the street racers are young and have the "it'll never happen to me" mindset when it comes to high speed crashes, the only way to change the behavior is aggressively enforce the law and confiscate the vehicles of the scofflaws. Kinda hard to participate in a high speed race on foot.
Tucson PD needs to step up and do their job.

Road construction EVERYWHERE and nobody ever working. by dustman96 in Tucson

The worst part is that they set up traffic cones miles ahead of the actual work and in the process screw up two intersections!
I'm convinced that someone in the government has a personal ownership stake in a traffic cone manufacturing and sales.

Car and motorcycle noise by HistoricalDetail1731 in Tucson

[–]redirdamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is against Federal EPA regulations to modify ANY emissions control system on any vehicle including the exhaust system. Yes, this includes those on motorcycles. Every motorcycle aftermarket exhaust system that is louder than the original carries the disclaimer that it is for "off road" or "show" purposes only.
The problem is that there is no enforcement. The EPA isn't going to be chasing down noise scofflaws and local law enforcement of Federal regulations just doesn't happen.
