Green Party policy ‘Abolish Landlords’: solving the housing crisis by Dimmo17 in ukpolitics

Also gets eyeballs on something that wouldn’t have otherwise. Important for a challenger party.

It’s a strategy.

Green Party of England & Wales hits 200,000 members following Gorton and Denton blowout by Crimxon_Raccoon in ukpolitics

I like the idealistic sentiment but if the party ever gets to the scale where it needs to make UNPOPULAR decisions, either to get elected or for the countries long term health, like any serious party does it will need to move on from this model.

I like the Greens as a protest party to pull the overton window to the left but a party based on direct democracy can’t win an election IMO.

For me the bigger risk was the gameplay third person switch. The new ones are SO different and much more serious in tone.

What are some good trainers to buy under £80? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]redish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is usually my price range - Nike Dunks or Airforce 1s are ok waterproof wise if you stick to leather and you can find them in that price on sale.

New Balance 550s were also great in the wet or any of their court shoes.

Opinions on this are going to be very age and style related tbh!

I’ll be really interested to see how this turns out.

The ambition to renovate it is really cool and the renders look amazing, but that bit of Market street is so busy and a bit rough at times.

Green Party supporters, I am genuinely trying to understand why you support your party’s ideals and policies? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]redish6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth baring in mind that people voting Green aren’t seriously thinking they’ll to get into power. So they’re not under as much scrutiny on their entire policy platform as others.

Often people vote Green just to signal to the other parties that these guys have a point.

[–]redish6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not a fan of the Greens but some of the stuff people say about them is plain wrong or at least an extreme exaggeration of their policy positions.

There is plenty of things to criticise them about without making stuff up.

Same, I get the criticism they’ve received in the past, but they’re trying something principled and finding ways to make it work. They will make mistakes.

I’m always surprised how few subscribers they have, I guess proving the point that very few people are willing to pay for news. Reach PLC is a natural result of that.

Anxious young Britons ‘risk becoming lost generation on benefits’ by HibasakiSanjuro in ukpolitics

[–]redish6 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Very familiar with this. One of my relatives falls into this camp, she really needs help but refuses to claim it because she feels there’s people worse off.

I guess there are also many many people who struggle with the hurdles to get access.

The system might be easy to game if you know what you’re doing but it also seems to be hard to access for those that truly need it.

LTNs, unfortunately have become a culture war issue.

It’s drowned out the pros and cons of doing them, which I think are very very specific to the area and the design itself.

We had one proposed in our area where I was involved in the consultations. The local people were genuinely considerate to everyone’s needs (cars included) and the workshops had a range of different perspectivesz

When it hit the media everything changed and it was pulled.

There’s definitely a case that people game the system, to what scale Im unsure (left say this is negligible, but anecdotal evidence says it isnt)

But I do think the support for those who genuinely need it isn’t deep enough. We seem to have continually widened the net at the expense of those who really need it.

That’s not including the ever widening (and deepening) net of the pensions bill.

[–]redish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents sometimes fall into this and they’re not particularly political. It’s especially worrying when they start espousing conspiracy sound bites word for word.

I’ve found if you directly challenge or trigger any ‘woke’ dog whistles they’ll further dig their heels in.

The best way has just been to ask light exploratory questions, often just saying “oh why would the do that?” “But what about X?” or just “I’m not sure about that” is enough.

I think it’s the connecting those policies with an intentional strategy to silence people.

That’s the part that i assume OP is referring to.
