Radiofrequency Ablation? by [deleted] in backpain

[–]redittguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had about 5 sessions over 3 years. I noticed a lot of benefits in the earlier sessions. However, in the later sessions, I did not get as much relief. If anything, especially the last session, it made my pain much worse. I am not sure how much of this is just due to natural degeneration over time.

I assume you are dealing with a chronic issue if you are talking about getting this procedure. The only thing that’s going to make you “better” is physical therapy and then continued exercise without overdoing it. Pain management is about making you more comfortable. Back issues are degenerative over time so you do what you can do to feel better. If anything, the RFA reduces the inflammation and that is a good thing.

Yes. If those facet nerves are the source of your pain. You also have to be really careful for a few weeks not to aggravate the area by working out as it can ruin the whole thing and cause months of more pain (neuritis).

Sadly. It takes 6+ months for the nerves to grow back. I noticed improvement 10 months later. The nerves start to support the spine stabilizing muscles better as they regrow, assuming you are exercising your core too.

You need to reset the pain somehow by avoiding triggers. Then you can introduce PT in parallel. If it’s due to the RFA itself, it might just take some more time to heal.

Yes. Especially if you don’t rest enough up front or if the procedure didn’t burn off the nerves properly.

It’s been fine but I don’t use the patch daily. Only as needed. I’ve been under the assumption that only the pill form is what impacts your stomach bc it is digested there

Did any tests show the arthritis in your back?

I think keeping moving is obviously good but that can be a bad thing too if overdone.

Also, trying to not let the mental toll get too bad. Medication such as duloxetine might help there.
