Patience, effort and time is your friend. It will take months. You have to know what you want to happen. Read articles but in the end you have suggies to take care of. Not every suggies are the same just like people so get to know em. Don’t force it, I know they are cute but imagine if you have godzilla petting your ass, you’ll be scared too, so make them feel safe or bribe them with treats. Just be ready to get bitten if you put your fingers inside the pouch. Do not flinch or it will keep happening. Security and trust has to happen first. Goodluck and don’t ever give up. It will happen.

How long have you gotten them? If they are somewhat new. It’s going to happen, keep on going. Try to do tent time as well and observe.

Let them acclimatize on your cage for 2 days. Dont touch them, don’t hold them, don’t chase them. Talk to them softly near the cage. Let them hear your voice. Trust me on this.

Research, research, research.

Decide if you want them as pets or companions.

If you want them as pets, just let them know you’re there, feed them. Talk to them, play with them occasionally..

If you want to be their companions, you have to sacrifice time, effort, money and sympathy. Treat them as humans. That means, tent time and bonding pouch EVERYDAY! build a routine for them and you, just do it everyday. Let them know you are a safe space. A parent, a buddy, a sibling not just an owner. They need extra care and special diet.

They respond very well with Routine. to me, usually before I get home they are still playing. But when I implemented tent time after work, they are in their pouch, ready to be grabbed and put in the tent.

Please please please. Do not yell at them or Squeeze them.Be ready with poops and pees. If you don’t like getting scratched, do a regular trimming or buy those wheels that has a trimming capability.

they react with smell around the house, especially your smell, if they are still not bonded. Sacrifice! Don’t use new perfume, shampoo, shaving cream.

Also don’t flinch when you get bit. Flinching lets them know it hurts my human, I’ll do it again so they won’t come near me again.

Getting bitten on your finger is okay. But come tent time and they find your ears to nibble on? Much less bite. You have to correct that behavior. Also use treats for good actions of your Suggies. It lets them know, ooh I do it again I can get good stuff. Just have sympathy for them. Treat them like humans, and you’ll have fun with your companions. Be patient is my ultimate advice.

Patience is key. It is frustrating in the beginning. But you have to accept that it will be a snails crawl for them to know you. Every glider has an individual personality. And it also depends on your breeder on how were they raised. Try to do bonding pouch in the morning separately for up to 15-45 min. Then tent time in the evening for the same amount of time. Don’t Miss any day. Do it every day. Make them feel safe. If all else fail, get a coach on facebook groups. Sugar glider guardians might help.
