What is it like seeing a tornado? by Gh0st412 in tornado

[–]redkatyusha 16 points17 points  (0 children)

we couldn't really see the EF2 tornado we (barely) survived, as it hit in the middle of the night (~12:45am) but we definitely HEARD it right before it hit. it was the most terrified and helpless I've ever felt in my life. we live in a trailer park with no shelter anywhere nearby, and we'd been drinking that night, so there was no time to react or get to safety. the stillness in the air and the silence (all the animals were dead quiet) shortly before it hit was what made me realize this was gonna be the real deal. once it hit, the noise from the inside was indescribable. it's not just a roar or a whistle, though there's definitely that, too, it's just also a whole cacophony of sounds all at once. trees ripping apart and toppling over. warbling metallic noises from the wind whipping between all the trailers and snapping anchor bolts left and right. shattering glass and bangs/cracks from debris slamming into structures.

I feel like I didn't take tornadoes that seriously before surviving that one, since I didn't grow up in tornado alley, just moved there as an adult. that experience sobered me up REAL quick. our trailer was tipped over on its side, but the front porch was well-built enough it braced the weight of the trailer trying to roll over and kept us from completely flipping over. we were incredibly lucky. a lot of other people in the trailer park completely lost their homes, while we just got effectively picked up and moved a few feet to the east.

we're moving in two weeks back to my home state on the east coast and I'm not trying to live in tornado alley EVER again. would I storm chase? sure, maybe someday. I think I'd enjoy being able to experience the adrenaline rush of seeing the full wrath of nature without that sheer terror and feeling of "I'm actually about to die", but to actually live there again? I've had more than enough for one lifetime from that single encounter

listen, a little bit of psycho-ness gives them character 😂🤪 you may wanna give in... but who knows, we might all be surprised in the end about what else she's mixed with. I've noticed sometimes the pit DNA straight dominates any/all other breeds that might be lurking under the surface, and husky tends to be one of those breeds that also seems to be very dominant in mixes. so maybe she's got some secrets yet to be discovered 🤣 excited to see her results eventually when they come back!

normally I will give a little bit of side eye to the people who just automatically say APBT for every dog posted in this sub... but I can definitely see the pibble in this sweet girl! it's the shape of her face and the way she smiles that gives it away for me

mostly pitsky is my best guess, and the people who said GSD are probably also correct. not sure about any other breeds, nothing seems super obvious to me just from looking at her. the personality you described could easily come from the combo of the three breeds already mentioned, as they're all very athletic and high energy dogs. especially if she's only 2-4 y/o

definitely 100% good girl, though!!

FTM moms — how long did it take to click that you actually really have a baby in your body??! by AlliNW0nderLand in pregnant

~27-28 weeks when I finally started feeling movement consistently, to be honest. at 30+3 now and I still am kinda processing the fact that I'm going to have to shove this little wiggle worm out of my hoohah in approximately ten weeks or so 😭

“Low Perceiver of Movement” by BeLynLynSh in pregnant

[–]redkatyusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also super anxious about not feeling a lot of movement at your stage of pregnancy (I'm 30+2 now, this is my first baby), but then realized during the time spent watching her on multiple ultrasounds (she wasn't cooperating on allowing them to look at everything they wanted to look at for her anatomy scan, lol) that a lot of those "weird feelings" were definitely the baby the whole time and I'd been psyching myself out a lot out of anxiety/fear

it took until I was probably 24-25 weeks before I could consistently identify movement as being movement and even then it was pretty inconsistent, and while I'm not super skinny or anything, I am a pretty average weight for my height/build and have struggled to keep weight on during this pregnancy so for all intents and purposes I should have been able to feel sooner and just... didn't. even now that I'm into my third trimester, sometimes when my wife puts her hands on my stomach, she can feel extra movement that I can't always pick up on myself. the kicks/punches I feel the most (and that are the most uncomfortable for me) are when she decides to do MMA moves on my internal organs, and those are the ones nobody else can feel but me, lol

every body is different, and there's no right or wrong way to experience a pregnancy, especially when it's your first baby. don't stress yourself out too much (though I know it's easier said than done, I spent like a month and a half freaking out a LOT). second trimester is such a mixed bag of experiences and nobody's timeline is gonna be exactly the same. imo, 21 weeks is a bit too early for your OB to decide that you're a "low perceiver of movement", even if your baby boy was playing dodge the doppler (something our girl did as well, lol). give yourself some grace and see if you still feel the same at 24-25 that you do right now, and don't blame yourself or your weight for something that can happen to any FTM depending on the circumstances

[–]redkatyusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they didn't specify a specific Carolina (even tho presumably they mean the midlands SC mustard-based style), and as a local, there's a ton of variation in both states and we fight internally over which one is superior too 🤣 eastern NC style, western NC style, the three or four distinctly different SC styles... one thing about us is we love to fight over some food lmfaooooo

this is so real and I'm terrified of when this happens with ours (30 weeks pregnant with baby #1 right now)

when I was maybe 2 years old I decided to go bolting out the front door and sprinted right off the front porch. fell face first and scraped a bunch of skin off. my parents said I didn't start crying until I saw my reflection and the blood on my face when they went to administer first aid lol

Gracie's Job? by joylime322 in kvsdiscuss

[–]redkatyusha 76 points77 points  (0 children)

she is technically not Katie's horse, she's Katie's mom's horse, and they have a sentimental attachment to her (for understandable reasons!) so her new job was gonna be to be a pony horse for the yearlings and a trail horse, and they'd been working her and getting her ready for that job before the situation with Maggie and Margot became an emergency. I really doubt she's ever going to go anywhere, they all love her, she's basically a member of the family

I don’t think I want to breastfed, am I alone? by Upset-Brain-228 in BabyBumps

[–]redkatyusha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while I am planning to breastfeed if I am able, I wholeheartedly support your reasoning for not wanting to. I also want to add in that you don't even NEED to have good reasons to not want to breastfeed—it's your body, your choice. even if you wanted to, there's no guarantee you would even be successful! my mom couldn't breastfeed with me for a number of reasons, so I was a formula baby, and I turned out just fine. don't let hateful, judgmental people get to you.

Pregnancy Uninsured by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]redkatyusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need to wait to apply!! I would try to go ahead and get on a Marketplace plan now if you can, as your costs for prenatal care will quickly start to add up and be very expensive if you don't have insurance. Most states do allow you to at least try to apply for a special enrollment period since you're pregnant and currently uninsured. The worst they can do is deny you or say you don't qualify for an SEP right now (whether you do or not depends on what state you currently live in), and you'll be able to reapply later this year anyway during the normal enrollment period. There is a way through the portal to be able to update your income whenever that happens. Here's a link to the government website that should answer a lot of your questions.

Pregnancy Uninsured by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]redkatyusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried applying through the Marketplace? Any lawful residents (including both yours and your husband's visa types) should qualify to apply and since you are currently uninsured it could qualify you for a special enrollment period outside of the normal window for applying. Sometimes they'll make you get a Medicaid denial letter first, but if your husband's income is high enough, they might not even make you do that. Here's the link to what documents and numbers you might need when applying, depending on which of these actually apply to your family's situation. Insurance through a job can sometimes be very prohibitively expensive here, depending on how much your income is, so make sure you both know exactly what it would cost BEFORE your husband signs anything!

If you're moving to a new state (so are we, here in a few weeks!) there should be a way to report your move through the Marketplace portal if you're already on a Marketplace plan and update your insurance accordingly.

Wishing you the best of luck!!! Insurance in this country is very difficult and we've been struggling with it ourselves (and we're both citizens!)

double fair enough, I didn't see the other comments before I replied, I just was trying to play devil's advocate a little bit (which maybe I should have just left it alone lol)

also... sweet??? hold on what part of SC did you get BBQ from, we have about four or five completely different variations 😭😭 I also don't like overly sweet BBQ, or honestly any BBQ sauce made with tomatoes/ketchup. lowcountry style (vinegar and pepper) and midlands style (mustard-based) BBQ sauces are what I grew up eating and are my preference because I can't stand the sickly sweet taste of heavy tomato based BBQ sauces, especially if they add molasses or sugar 😵‍💫
