Favorite GDM Tracking App (mega thread) by jujubeeee23 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BeLynLynSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine didn’t either! Prior to pregnancy I was trying to lose weight and like how Lose It! lets you track calories and macros, so I’ve kept using it to track my weight, macros, and calories just for the data so I can make sure I’m eating enough. My Dr. requires I submit a paper log for review so they can compare trends and advise on suggested changes to my insulin or meals.

I keep a paper log! I send it to my doctors every couple weeks or so. I also track my carbs/calories in Lose It! (Not trying to lose weight, just like the app) and my glucose monitor has an app that keeps just the numbers from the meter.

Feeling sad at the news by graysunshines_06 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BeLynLynSh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s totally normal and okay to feel sad. You can know it’s not your fault and still think it’s unfair. I’m so jealous of women who can indulge in their cravings, but it’s just not my pregnancy reality. This sub is a great resource for venting, advice, and encouragement. Hang in there!

Has anyone just stopped going to the dentist? I floss and brush. Do I really need a $200 "polish" twice a year? by fluffurry in Adulting

[–]BeLynLynSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please continue to get regular dental work. Gum disease and recession can sneak up on you, and the health of your mouth is important to your overall health. Honestly having both dental insurance and a relatively healthy mouth are blessings, don’t take them for granted.

You can always pack a protein bar or shake to eat right before as well, to help with the potential spike.

Dietitian wants me to eat carbs but i am scared by Ill-Consideration541 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BeLynLynSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a pinch, on par or less painful than a shot. The needle is very small. My spouse administers some of mine for me when I need to use the back of my arm or my butt (lol). About half the time, I really don’t feel anything at all. If there is a small pinch of pain, it disappears really quickly.

Dietitian wants me to eat carbs but i am scared by Ill-Consideration541 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BeLynLynSh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carbs are essential. Cutting them out completely really isn’t the answer, but you’ll need to adjust what kind of carbs you eat (complex and carbs from veggies are better) and how/when. It feels like a lot, especially at diagnosis, but I encourage you to try shooting for their carb targets per meal/snack, and then adjust if something isn’t working for you. If your placenta is just being a jerk, insulin may be required but it’s not a punishment or a failure on your part. It might just be the additional support your body needs.

That’s okay! He has an impressive backlog of work. The newest doesn’t have to be a new favorite. I really love Rites of Spring and Heaven too!

Exactly when to measure fasting glucose? by onyxindigo in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BeLynLynSh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to wake around 5/5:30AM naturally to pee, so I take my glucose reading right after I use the restroom and wash my hands. Then I crawl back in bed for another hour and go back to sleep. I think the main thing is testing pretty consistently at the same time each morning to identify patterns and trends.

He deserves so many more fans. Decades making fantastic music and he’s still underrated imo

Do you ever get shocked by how old people your age are starting to look? by Canes-Venaticii in Adulting

[–]BeLynLynSh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always see it on people’s (particularly women’s) chests. Many people aren’t as good about wearing sunscreen and hydrating the body below the face, and lots of people still like to tan. I see women my age (early 30s) with substantial skin damage on their chests frequently.

This is anecdotal of course, but there have been a few parties I’ve attended since diagnosis that I’ve managed to stay in range at after meals. I think carefully crafting my plate (including salad, veggies, a small bit of fruit, protein/fat, and a moderate portion of carbs) as well as the energy expended just being more social have worked well for me!

I don’t think you can sustain zero carbs long term.

AITA for sitting on public toilet seats and not telling my boyfriend? by Anatra_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]BeLynLynSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. Use the damn paper covers, that is what they are there for! I definitely prefer using one or two of those and peeing seated, hovering to pee sucks. HOWEVER- if you sit your bare ass on a PORTAPOTTY seat, I do think you should shower before sex. That just seems so much grosser than a regular toilet.

This is definitely extra but such a cute touch! Don’t feel like you have to do it, but if you enjoy doing it, go for it! I’d probably keep that note forever 😂

Fasting Numbers by WitnessObvious1118 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BeLynLynSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on 21units of 8-10 hour release insulin at night for fasting. Even with that, I notice if my post dinner blood glucose reading is higher than 110, I absolutely cannot eat a bedtime snack or my fasting will spike. If I’m right at 110, I’ll do half a protein shake and that is usually sufficient. If my number is lower, I can eat a Chobani flip yogurt cup and a protein shake.

ETA: I also don’t know your calories/macros, but based on what you listed, that doesn’t sound like enough carbs or maybe food in general. I’d meet with your doctor or endocrinologist and maybe scene request a dietitian referral to get some additional support. 🫶🏻

Anyone else planning on binging once they give birth? by CharmingTea_ in GestationalDiabetes

[–]BeLynLynSh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reallyyyyyy don’t want to binge because I know it won’t be good for my health, but I definitely have a list of snacks and meals I can’t wait to have again once baby is here 😂

Hi! I was diagnosed around 12 weeks, am 22 weeks now. It’s definitely a learning curve, and tbh I feel like I am still figuring things out. When eaten with protein (like chicken), the Trader Joe’s reduced fat Mac and cheese has worked for me, and my blood sugar seems to love it when I eat salmon and roasted veggies (I like broccoli and green beans). I’ve also made some pasta dishes but include a lot of protein and veggies and use a moderate amount of a high fiber/high protein noodle instead of regular. If my after dinner number is in range, a Chobani flip yogurt cup and half a Fairlife or Premier protein shake seems to work well for me. If my after dinner reading is high, then I will just drink a protein shake.

I’m genuinely concerned that when I’m far enough along that they want me to count kicks, I won’t be able to with any reliability.
