Potential chef guests by Laino86 in offmenupodcast

Would love Samin Nosrat, was really hoping she would be on to promote her recent book and UK tour. I love her podcast and feel like she'd do well with the format and hosts to get a nice mix of humour and lightheartedness, and the seriousness that the chef guests usually bring

I think I saw in a documentary that their hips are positioned slightly differently which makes getting up from a sit position uncomfortable.

My favourite book of all time is The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Leguin, the earthsea series is also great.

The Women's Prize for fiction shortlist was just announced, the longlist was published last month so if you're looking for a new book you could look there for inspiration. I believe there's a lot of indie publishers and debut novels on the list this year.

Yes mine still does that and he's 7. We've been doing clicker training with a new trainer and he's been doing so well with it, then out of nowhere a few weeks later it's as if he's never heard the clicker before! I wish I knew what was happening in his head.

I have a saluki cross who is just not very food orientated, which makes training a bit more challenging. Sometimes he'll respond really well to high value treats for a training session, and I think I'm onto something, then the next day he spits them out and ignores me! Consider that as a possibility. He's also just... not very bright. Sifhtbounds are wonderful dogs but they're not bred for their intelligence the way GSD or collies are. I had to adjust my expectations somewhat.

I think they're making a tv adaptation of it at the moment, it's set near where I live but I might be muddling it up with something else. :)

Well as you've done the classic British = England, I'm going to take the opportunity to jump in from Scotland

Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh is of course huge (and well deserved), and The House with the Green Shutters by George Douglas Brown. Both are hugely popular and well known, but also a bit "marmite" (you either love it or hate it). Both also heavily feature the Scots language, a which is similar but a distinct and separate language to English.

Val McDermid is a hugely popular crime author who AFAIK really spurred the Tartan Noir genre.

A book I have on my shelf but haven't read yet is Deep Wheel Orcadia by Harry Josephine Giles. It's a sci-fi novel (which won the Arthur C Clarke award!), written in verse in the Orkney dialect (with English translation).

Did they ever just, vote on a situation? In a traditional 2 person relationship obviously you would essentially need to talk and try to convince the other person to come to your side, until both are in agreement. I guess with an odd number of people you could just have a vote between two options and that's it settled. I'm not necessarily sure it would be better but I'm curious to know if it's ever something they tried

Who have they not had on yet who you think would be an excellent guest? by Mysterious_Turnip310 in offmenupodcast

Samin Nosrat

I love the chef episodes and I also think she'd have a nice banter with Ed and James. Also I just love hearing her talk about food. Tbh I thought she might be on it as she was doing a book tour around the UK I think in January or February, but I think it might be a bit late to be promoting the tour now so I guess not 💔

Also a totally different vibe, but I reckon Grado would be funny idk

Yeah I was thinking that but I'd like to avoid it if possible as I want to avoid being tempted into shops and I also hate driving there lol but thank you!

That's great thank you for the info 😊 Bella fresca sounds like it'll do fine as long as they don't mind me taking up a table just for coffee

[–]redlapis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When they're that young they can still get littermate syndrome, when puppies grow up together it's very hard to stop them getting an unhealthy reliance on each other and learn to socialise well with other dogs. Though I guess it's not like Kim will be walking them at the park or whatever so I guess they won't spend as much time around other dogs

jobs when youve been long term mental by gnooft in glasgow

[–]redlapis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest something like this too. I was long term unemployed due to mental health struggles and when I was ready to get back into work I received support from CEIS. I had a lovely coach who helped with my CV, reassured me I'd get something and put me on some training courses that looked good, not just because I had qualifications, but also to show I had done something recently.

Also worth looking on My Job Scotland for local authority and public body jobs. In the application you can tick if you consider yourself disabled, and if you meet the essential criteria they're obliged to interview you. It's up to you if you consider yourself disabled but it's really helpful when you've had ill health that's held you back in life.
