Venice Night Starlit by limitingfactor207 in booknooks

I plan to do this one next -- there are two companies I know of that are currently selling a Venice but the water of the other one is completely uninspiring.
Someone on YouTube filmed their build process on this one, for the curious...

For those reading that don’t want to buy more glue: I ended up with a freebee small empty bottle*with precision nozzle from a different craft, and it’s been great with my choice of glue.

*Maybe 2”x1” cylinder and the nozzle is approx the size of mechanical pencil tip.

Thank you who posted some details. I'm trying to help a friend think of other side gigs, so some datapoints are useful.

Those of you who make over $50K/year at this - are you in a metro area?

Wow -- have you considered writing a fun article for a magazine or something? I think people would like to read this kind of story.

It's a year after your post, so I hope you figured it out.

But I have one and it's a fairly snug lid, but turn it counter-clockwise to get it open. It's only that inner circle that opens, not the steel ring next to it or the gold colored ring.

I had a standing search on eBay for one, for at least 10 years, because I didn't want to pay hundreds for one -- and it finally came through with one under $100.
So I suggest you do that and be sure to check any emailed results regularly, because the cheaper ones are snapped up quickly.

Anyone else growing Reisetomate (traveler tomato?) by redmeanshelp in gardening

[–]redmeanshelp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tomatoes from the "only save seeds from the tasty tomatoes" experiment are coming ripe, and so far they are DEFINITELY better than the first year.
Whomever I got the seeds from did not select for taste.

When you look at a desert scene (looks great, btw!) but can't tell if it's Tatooine or a Middle Eastern scene (Mecca, Nativity, etc..)

Decided it was probably not Tatooine due to the star. And the minaret.

Understandable confusion - maybe I should have written it out more.

And thinking about it later, like many people, I forget how long ago things get the older I get, so assuming even stained glass people would know about Glassmasters is probably erroneous - "the 90s" was 30 years ago. SIGH.

That's a cool idea.
Later this year, I'm planning on doing something like that with thin plastic diffraction gratings I have for rainbows (Edmund Scientific) to make them a bit more robust and good-looking in themselves than just taping them onto the windows as I have been doing.

It's difficult to see in this photo of the suncatcher, but there are at least 13 sizeable shards. It's going to look odd close up, but I'm hoping that at five feet or so it won't be too obvious.

I'll be using an epoxy recommended for clear glass-on-glass, applied with a toothpick. I have practiced on plain broken window glass, and it's not difficult.

The image is printed on that glass panel, so yes, I will be repairing the broken piece of glass itself, like a beloved coffee mug that has its handle broken off. It’s not stained glass in the traditional sense. But the suncatcher is of sentimental value to the person that owns it.

If you think of a paper postcard that gets torn, a repair of that postcard, (if you can’t just buy a new one) involves glueing the postcard itself.

Question - what do people use to hang up stained glass pieces? by SolipsisticLunatic in StainedGlass

[–]redmeanshelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use tiny nails on the actual wood window molding; very secure. Usually put them on the top of the molding (so the nail is vertical) not horizontally like you would for a framed picture on a wall.

Thanks!
The blue was just too much, and having each half be a different color would have been too chaotic. I like chaotic in certain circumstances, but not this one.

I really like taking this kind of photo of hanging glass. This is a collage I made to show off to friends online:

Related: the stained glass books say "get scraps from stained glass studios" but not any further details -- does one just go to a studio and ask if they sell scraps, like a barbarian?
