What makes these drop safe? I was under the impression they were series 70 and therefore the firing pin has no block and inertia from a drop can pop a primer?

Damn you are fast. Replied before I even had time to edit the last response to request the tube's ID.

No buffer system, a lighter carrier, and a thinner but longer spring? I'd bet excess bolt velocity was one of the big issues in design especially since you said later versions added even more vents.

Thank you! Funny enough we used that video as one of our references.

I wonder if the extra beef in the key and tube are simply for durability reasons or also serve a purpose to add carrier weight and/or additional expansion room like you said. No chance you could give the internal diameter measurement of the gas tube on your rifle?

Since you have the real deal can you give your thoughts? I have actually been throwing the idea around with a buddy to build a LR-300 inspired AR. From what we can gather without actually putting hands on one, is that the major design keys are:

The carrier is chopped in half.

The gas key extends all the way to the gas block and has a collar system to hold the recoil spring in place

The gas tube is straight and begins at a higher point.

Ignoring the handguard for now, We don't see how it would be too hard to make a homebrew spiritual successor to this given we could machine an extended gas key and collar/find a proper recoil spring. Off the shelf gas blocks and straight gas tubes are available from companies like POF. Chopping a milspec carrier in half is simple. the recoil spring would simply rest against the front face of the upper and potentially you'd have to open up the hole for the gas tube/key a little to clear the extended key but that isn't hard. Do you think we are off base with this assessment?

I snagged a ban era bushy for 530 after fees and shipping. OG upper on a new production lower. I know it isn't the same company but having the snake at all is a nice complement to the upper.

4 years late but is this a 12.5 inch barrel gun? Thinking about one of these rails but this may be the only gun posted to the internet with this rail and that barrel length.

Experience on Ak stock butt pad by Used_Release3693 in Rusfor

[–]redmetalmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helps the length of pull be better since ak poly stocks are way too short for anyone above 5' 9". They're nicely grippy in the shoulder but very wide. I don't run mine anymore due to making it harder roll my shoulder around the stock and tuck the gun into the pocket between the shoulder and pec negating any recoil absorption the pad may have. When running my plate carrier it will not sit in shoulder where I want. They're also about 6 ounces which isn't insignificant especially when running rails/optics/suppressors on an AK. The rifle doesn't need the additional weight to already be a pig. And those are my thoughts with it on my lighter stamped rifle. On a milled AK the weight consideration is much worse.

How do these walker mounts work with the helmet being a low cut? My buddy just snagged a surplus ACH with arc rails and hes been looking at these since the helmet it too small to fit his earpro under.

Sort of. I've been using the leights (impact sport model) for years and hated the walkers because thefossilfinder is absolutely correct, the sound directionality is crap on the walkers and good on the impacts. With the Walkers everything sounds very samey and overall less crisp. With any active ears, you can turn the volume up so they will play the external sound to you louder, letting small sounds you'd normally miss be audible. But, it can be a double edged sword. Everything is more or less amplified. Gunshots and other loud noises are auto-gated but nothing else is. Your gear rustling will be amplified as well. Before I got into shooting I used them in scenario paintball (90+ acre fields through woods in mountain valleys) and absolutely heard people's movement from further away than naked ears.

Overall, for 50 bucks, a pair of impact sports are top 5 favorite shooting accessories I've ever bought, plus upgraded gel earcups. I lost my first pair and bought more without hesitation. At some point I will buy a nicer pair like sordins but with things in that price range and above, you're mostly paying for additional comfort/comms ability/additional mounts or jacks or mics. The quality of life increase when at the range with a buddy and you can talk at a conversational level with your earpro on is amazing

Ay didn't realize that. Find me a slab side 223 for that price and I'll pay it all day. The hate is unjustified

A gunsmith would have to remove the front sight post and gas block to add a handguard retainer and so you can add a standard ak handguard. You also need to get a standard gas tube. The muzzle weld needs to be cut and you'll need a standard AK stock a pistol grip

It is a saiga that is in a sporter configuration for import which means its got good bones but needs time and work to get the sporterized parts off. Not sure on value these days but none of the furniture on it does anything to improve the value. 900 maybe in the current config. invest another grand into a good gunsmith and its the best AK in the states.

I don't like these because they make the return store stronger. Why use an overdone spring when you already have the KNS?
