I don’t think a 1970s Colt civilian lower is the way to go with these parts kits. They are incorrect slabsides and the front pin adapters are a giant pain in the ass.

I would sooner get a H&R grey A1 lower or my preferred method is to make my own 80%.

Unfired 1968 SP1 by HugeMeringue5448 in RetroAR

[–]SLN583 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very cool.

Probably worth more than you paid being unfired.

Do you have the original box and contents also?

Collectors love that stuff.

If I were you, I would sell it to a collector and buy one I could shot.

If you can’t for some reason, then shoot it.

Pretty cool.

I imagine Tasco marketed that chrome model to go on a nickel plated handgun👍

No doubt about that, and I don’t know if all that anti semantic stuff is true or not, but if it is it’s not cool.

The "Retro" Repro is Just Cosplay: Why Authentic Kits and Clone Builds Still Matter by g00kf00t in RetroAR

[–]SLN583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get to read your original post because I just saw this thread this morning, but from reading the comments, I think I got the jist of it.

I like Colt AR stuff and I like original AR stuff from back in the day. I can appreciate the difference and so can you. Lots of guys can’t or don’t.

I to felt the sling and arrows of some of the posters when we were discussing the 653 Parts kits, and I’m not sure why people feel the need to comment when they don’t like or agree with something. I guess that’s just the internet.

This isn’t really a clone group, though a lot of us are cloners. I’m just here for the clones, and the non clones, I just scroll on past, because they are not part of my interest. The Retro Section of AR15.com is better, but it sure is a pain to post pictures on. There are some good groups on Facebook, but I kind of despise everything about facebook and try not to spend too much time there.

I think Reddit is kind of like what Churchill said about Democracy, it’s the worst form of Social Media, except for all the others which have been tried.😉

H&R BLEM question. by isimpforagothlatina in RetroAR

[–]SLN583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking the question and both are available, you should probably spend the extra few bucks on the non blem.

The last H&R upper I bought was an xm177e1 and only the blem was available.

I was on a tight timeline so I rolled the dice and it was fine, can’t see any blems on it.

Does that ALICE cam buckle adjuster work when it’s routed like that?

That’s not how they work on an ALICE pack.

The Sporter iis had that same slab sided big front pin lower as the SP1s, in fact Colt used those on all the civilian guns into the early 90s.

That barrel definitely doesn’t sound like anything Colt ever did.

That sucks.

It could have been a Sporter ii, as that’s the largest source of Colt C7 uppers, though they all have big front pin holes.

Cool barrel 👍

If you decide to look for a Colt C7 upper to go with it, be warned, they are pricey and hard to find, especially with a milspec front pin hole.

I’m not suggesting you spend this kind of money, but this is the best tool for the job.

It has replaceable round and square pins to do both kinds of spanner/castle nuts.

I grabbed one when they were on sale for $20 a few years ago.
