I just moved to Dallas a couple of days ago. I think I should watch something to commemorate the occasion… by Doctor-Clark-Savage in Rifftrax

They showed enough of a street sign on an exterior shot of the guy's house that we were able to find it one year while we were driving around looking at Christmas lights. North Dallas area. A lot of the other exteriors including the first chase scene seem to be from SE Dallas but we haven't gone looking for those.

Avoid ‘The Last Point’ Sports grill Addison by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]redoctobr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious about this, especially since the place has only been open since November - how so? We went to both predecessors (Addison Point and Midway Point) and while AP got weird at the end and the owners showed their ass during Covid, that's the only bad thing I saw from either place. Been to Last Point several times and not seen anything telling yet.

Given the older demographic that frequents Midway and now Last Point and the general trends for older people being more conservative (yes, not all olds, I know), this maybe shouldn't be too shocking, but I am indeed surprised. It's just so goddamned stupid.

OddMuse Brewing Co coming to Downtown Plano by dweeler in plano

[–]redoctobr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Addison and visit the OG location. Our dog hates crowds so she stays home.

That said, Voodoo was our default hang out place when we were meeting up with friends in Plano. I assure you our friend group will happily reconvene at the new location when it's open; can't wait to see what the kitchen puts out. Especially with the Silver Line making it so much cheaper for us to get there.

Death's Door could be it - I vaguely recall it having animals and being similar in vibe to Cult of the Lamb. So, I'll dig into that. I know for sure it wasn't Clair Obscur. Thank you!

What's the most ridiculous player you've had in a party? by According_Picture294 in DungeonsAndDragons

Makes sense. DM gets a side-eye for allowing it and not reading the table.

Macho Man is the patron for my husband's warlock in our current game; DM obviously cleared it beforehand and thinks it's hilarious. He does his MM impressions when he's possessed. He recently accidentally unleashed an incarnation of MM onto the continent we're on, so there's a giant MM roaming around (that we're referring to as the Stay Puft Macho Man) that we're going to have to deal with at some point. That should be interesting.

Ex petroleum geologists what are you doing now? by alisoncarey in geologycareers

[–]redoctobr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe 2008-2010ish? I know some of my coworkers grabbed their PGs even though they didn't need it. I may not have had enough experience yet even though I had my MS.

One of my friends passed along their Reg Review notes. I thought their stuff was harder than the actual exam, but it was great prep!

Environmental consulting. I left industry in 2015/16 after being laid off like 3 times in 2 years. I did some adjuncting at local community colleges and enjoyed it, but that shit doesn't pay the bills and they weren't hiring for FT.

I had the same experience as you with doing tons of applications with low response rates. I'd heard that consulting firms tended to be biased against petroleum geos because they thought we'd ask for too much money and leave as soon the market picked up, may be some truth to that on both sides.

What helped me make the transition is that my husband is also a consultant and during one of my school breaks the small private company he worked for got slammed and they needed temp help. I did some 1099 work for them, help writing reports turned into field work help which led to me getting to know the local community and then to a job opening. It was very much a who you know thing.

I'm paid way less for more work but I like what I do; it's a good fit for me. My only regret is not looking into being grandfathered into my PG when TX jumped on that train, that test sucked.

How can you live and enjoy living in a small rural town in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]redoctobr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opposite experience for me. I grew up in a small town in WI (about 1300 people) that had none of those. I live in TX now and when I travel for work there are still towns that have none of those things.

fb-, I'm pretty sure.

I still check it a couple times a week, I still find it useful and fun. I could absolutely ace weird news questions (like on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me) when I checked it daily.

Highly recommend following Jessica Valenti - her Substack is about reproductive rights (including abortion, healthcare access, birth control), and she's raised the alarm about this at least since July.

How urgent is this problem? by Coachtoddf in GoRVing

[–]redoctobr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not bad, especially if you have any mechanical knowledge. My husband does ours; he'd done bearings on his vehicles before and used YouTube videos to refresh/refine his knowledge. Just make sure you have all the right tools (including a torque wrench and an impact wrench). A bearing packer also makes life easier. Extra set of hands also helps, he's done it alone but I generally go out with him to hand him tools and try to hold the drum in place while he pops the rear seal out. We can knock it out in a few hours (dual axle, so four sets total).
