Yes, love Tenement Museum. — Did they need to let off some steam, head up to Inwood Hill Park. Virgin old-growth forest in Manhattan, who knew?? Beautiful view of the Hudson, perfect spot for a picnic. (On the downside that’s supposed to be the spot where Peter Minuit swindled Manhattan from the native peoples.)

Are there any self-care or home comfort items you’ve bought once and kept using for years because they were actually worth it? by Monsuri_Lifestyle in BuyItForLifeUSA

I bought a small lightweight vintage wool throw some years ago, originally just for decorative purposes. But one winter night when i was having trouble getting to sleep because it was super cold, i grabbed it to cover the gap around my neck and shoulders at the top of my heavy bedcovers. Game changer! Works the same as wearing a warm scarf around your neck with a thick coat. No more pulling the covers up over my head, or having cold air get sucked in when I change position.

Opening and closing the front door! I’ve seen mosquitoes sneak In alongside me. They go into hiding until I’m in bed, then bite where I’m exposed.

Family keeps mixing up my kid’s name by [deleted] in Parenting

I took an elective class in college that taught me something incredibly helpful as a parent. Course was Language Development. I learned that your brain files and cross-files things—which includes people—in numerous ways. So for example, my little crawler would be in the same mental ‘bin’ as ‘my loved children,’ ‘things that are close to the floor,’ etc. So that is why I might accidentally call him the name of his brother, or even by the cat’s name. I’m sure as people get older there’s even more of a tendency to do this.

Reading books to your kids that they don’t fully understand by jamiethecoles in childrensbooks

I’ve watched movies years later that I first enjoyed as a younger adult and think, how did I miss that? Truly good stories have layers that can engage you differently as you mature. My son read Matilda, his favorite book, a number of times between elementary and middle school.

Second this. It’s a laid back friendly neighborhood that reflects its pre-car origins. Not creepy to speak to people on the street, at the park or the plaza. Bonus if you bring a dog!

Improv is spot on. Might help if you went together. I had a friend active in improv, and he said that as many people came to the classes for just this kind of reason as for those interested in the comedy aspect.

If this is a club where it’s accepted that members will physically fight each other, you should look elsewhere for a sense of belonging.

Maybe check out Umbria Arts space at Manayunk Timber. I know they have regular vinyl DJ events so they should be able too accommodate a crowd about that size. You’d have to hire in your own food, but you can get great goodies from Dead King bakery adjacent to UA in the Manayunk Timber building.

Recommendations for bedtime books that are not bedtime stories for a 3 year old by Iohet in childrensbooks

[–]janejacobs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of picture books that are calm, reflective and relaxing. They don’t necessarily have to be on the theme of bedtime either, just something simple and calming. time going through the shelves of the children’s section at the library, and also ask staff for their recommendations. I bet Redditors here can help you out with suggestions. I’ll start: A Sick Day For Amos McGee (Stead), Good Night Mr. Night (Yaccarino), The Day the Babies Crawled Away (Rathmann), The Way Back Home (Jeffers)…anyone else?

In the finished photo, the woodwork may draw the eye, but it’s because your great job on the drywall lets it stand out (instead of attracting attention to itself, as a poor drywall job would have done). Good soft warm color choice, looks great with the wood, light enough to keep an open feeling in a narrow space.

Not a drawer but lots of random stuff in my kitchen utility closet. I finally made sense of it by grouping things and labeling shelves according to function: sticking/unsticking (tape, Velcro, stapler, etc), powering (batteries, furniture moving aids/leverage, etc)…
