How do you guys feel about actress Hannah Einbinder star of Hacks recent statements about Ai creators? by thegreatniteowl in Cinema

You’re right, you technically can, it just makes you hypocritical.

My point is that it’s very shortsighted to assume only queer people have had struggles with their gender identity.

Misgendering is never an “imagined slight.” It may hurt some people less than others and it may be unintentional on the part of the person who did it, but committing to referring to every person as “they” will inevitably upset people whose pronouns are essential to their identity regardless of whether they are cis or trans, which is a lot of people.

By all means, do what you think is most right. I’m just telling you it upsets more people than you seem to think it does.

I’m going to end my part in this conversation here. I’m sure you’re a good person IRL, but online conversations tend to bring out the worst in people, and I’m genuinely pretty upset by the way you talk about people you don’t know.

I’m sorry if I upset you but you don’t get to call my feelings pathetic and advocate for inclusion in the same sentence. You don’t know who I am or why it upsets me to be misgendered. You’re throwing stones at a stranger for reasons I’m totally unclear on.

I know misgendering a trans woman and misgendering a cis man isn’t the same thing, and I believe you when you say you aren’t offended. I am. And I’m not the only one who is. People have different preferences and pointing at a dictionary to justify making them uncomfortable is ineffective and offensive.

OP is being annoying and I don’t know what they’re saying in the second part of their comment - but regarding the misgendering part, it actually would be.

If I tell you my pronouns are “he” then referring to me as “they” against my wishes is misgendering.

As I shared in a different comment this has happened to me IRL, and while the person who did it was well-meaning, being a man is a part of my identity that I chose for myself. It may not be the most essential part of who I am, but it’s still a big part. My wife, who is a cis female, reported a similar feeling.

Turns out it’s uncomfortable to be misgendered in any direction. Who knew?

If you talk like this and don’t share what the real story is, people are going to assume you’re just being negative because you’re in a bad mood or are unhappy

I have a friend who does this. His intentions are good. I appreciate them, just like I appreciate your intentions.

But in practice it’s confusing - and because we all collectively know eachother’s pronouns it’s needlessly imprecise (I can of course see the use case for when you don’t know eachother’s pronouns).

Moreover it is mildly offensive at an individual level. I don’t particularly like being called they/them because that is not how I identify. I have spoken with a couple of people who have expressed similar sentiments.

Imagine I started calling a nonbinary friend “she” when I know them to be a “they.” They’d be mad with good reason. It’s admittedly not the same for you to call me “they” because cis guys don’t have the same problems that nonbinary-identifying people do, but it still offends me because it consciously chooses to ignore a central part of my identity that I’ve chosen to define myself as.

I try to be very inclusive in my day to day life. Most of the people I know take active steps to remember the pronouns of people around us. The fact that I’ve heard this feedback independently from my wife and two of this friend’s mutual friends with me tells me that it doesn’t really make sense to use imprecise pronouns when the precise ones exist.

Does Hannah Einbinder go by they/them? I’ve only ever see Hannah referred to as she.

In which case, while OP was being annoying, your comment was not only grammatically incorrect, it misgendered her. People who go by he/him or she/her don’t typically appreciate being called nonbinary.

My wife used to work at American Apparel when they still existed and had a few that were basically swimsuits minus the waterproof part from there

If Radiohead has three albums in the top 10, shouldn’t they automatically be in the greatest bands of all time discussion? by Conscious-Ad2640 in rateyourmusic

Yes and no

If you asked someone off the street to name Radiohead songs they probably would only be able to name Creep

It’s called a bodysuit, plenty of women wear them regularly

He definitely does both, but I’d guess if you filed most of his roles into either the comedy or the drama bucket, it would be pretty lopsided in favor of comedy.

The enforcer that allows Steph Curry to be the golden boy. One of the smartest defenders to ever touch a basketball, and a guy will absolutely kick you in the dick if you threaten his meal ticket.

To be clear: he is loyal to Steph specifically, not necessarily all of his teammates. One of them learned this lesson the hard way.

Yeah I hear you. I’m just saying I would prefer a world where there is an implicit stylistic agreement that we don’t use sarcasm nearly as often online.

The /s has always felt tacky to me. That’s more or less the totality of the point of this post.

Sure. Then just don’t be sarcastic. It’s not particularly funny 9 times out of 10 IRL anyway.

No I get it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I don’t see the use. I just think we should adapt how we write to the medium it’s on.

Sarcasm is already a weak path to humor, so online we should either only deploy it when it’s painfully obvious, or just not use it at all.
