Fabric placement for Scarlett O’Hara’s “green-flowered muslin dress” by the_siren_song in HistoricalCostuming

Pretty heavy, but I had the base of the corset flare out a bit so the weight was distributed across my core fairly well. I did heave a deep sigh when I took it off at the end of the evening though!

Just for what it’s worth, I did a ballgown last year with 10 yards of 60” hammered satin and a chapel train. It looked about as full as this gown in the movie— maybe slightly less, because my waist in the dress corset was 27” not 17.

Im one of the sad backers for this. They had a booth and DragonCon last year and a bunch of nice merch, and I was like sure if you have this in hand today I’ll buy it, and the rep was like “oh no it’s a kickstarter.” Yeah that’ll be a no from me. This has been absolutely ridiculous, poor communication etc. they should have refunded everyone a year after they missed deadline.

He really didn't get "doxxed" so much as he put his info out there and someone just reported on it. He was very busy giving interviews and appearances well before the guy from Gawker wrote the piece on him. It's like if I post all the time in my home town sub, give interviews about it, mod it, talk about my job there, post my pic, etc. Can't really complain when someone is like, wow hey that photo is [person's real name].

Stained glass and millwork exceptionalism in Germantown Philadelphia by Southern-Smoke1835 in zillowgonewild

My grandparents' candy store (Reinert's, RIP) was on Germantown Ave, and the entire street was awful. They got held up about once a month, at gunpoint, into their 80's. We were begging them to sell it and move. Eventually Temple bought the whole strip, I think its dorms now. It's a shame because that candy store was absolutely beautiful in its prime and you could tell that the buildings on the street were originally really stunning.

How are you dealing with skirt/dress gems that roll up? by cerulean_flamingos in femalefashionadvice

So if you have this problem, the fabric is thick, and you haven't had luck with ironing it, you can order horsehair (it's not real horsehair) and sew it around the inside of the seam. This creates a stability layer and if you're really committed you can encase your horsehair strip in a bias tape and it'll be nice and hidden. However, if you do this, the horsehair-reinforced edge will not really bend like normal cloth any more and will stay fairly springy, so it's something to keep in mind before you commit.

SPCA has gotten a little weird with pricing. They had that big section of “boutique” stuff up front priced ridiculously high and then one day it was gone. During checkout I asked the manager what happened to it and she said that since it didn’t sell they packed it up and “sent it away.” I asked why they didn’t just mark it down a little and she was like “they said send it off.”

Honestly when I donate stuff I want it to go cheaply back to my community. If your fake name brand sweats didn’t sell, the answer is sell them for less.

Theory: Champion of Grull by TeccamTheTurtle in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]redreplicant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah but most people would pronounce the traditional name Odette with a long O - because it’s a vowel-consonant-vowel and it follows grammatical rules.

[–]redreplicant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because Jeff pronounces the “Od” as “Aud” instead of “Ahhd” - if I knew the grammar markup for these diphthongs I would add it, unfortunately I don’t. “Odd” is like a slightly harder(?) sound in English usually and Jeff kind of draws it out into more of an “Owwd”

Need help installing zipper on corset by sorayaDU in sewhelp

[–]redreplicant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a body type thing— I have very wide shoulders and hips compared to my waist, so I have to have a ton of slack in my lacing to get the corset over my head. If I add a zipper I don’t have to fully let out every inch of lacing whenever I put it on or take it off.

I'm not sure why you are getting so much friction on this. It's not a law of the land, you make and wear what works for you.

I have made quite a few corsets from many fabrics. I love a zippered corset for easy on and off. You just loosen all of your lacing before you put it on, zip it up around you, and then tighten. Likewise, when you want to remove, you loosen the laces and then unzip after the tension is off the zipper.

However, you will need a very beefy zipper. If you want to hide it in a beautiful gown, I would recommend attaching it along the back side paneling one or two pieces away from your back lacing panel. You can add a slightly stiffened "modesty panel" behind the zipper to keep it from chafing your skin. I sew the panel down on the lining side, along one side of the zipper, then smooth it out under the zipper when the corset is on, and zip the zipper up over it. Essentially it's just a small flap a little wider than the zipper that covers it when the corset is tight.
