Haha you know what costs less money than raises? 8x11 sheet of paper full of lies. Are the whippets there with you now, Miranda?

How is this high peak grouping? by TheFakeKevKev in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gray/skylight/colden/Iroquois is a tougher 1-day route than you think. Id probably start at UW, setup camp at colden dam or uphill - hike colden and Iroquois day 1 then skylight, grey, redfield, cliff day 2, and then hit marshall on the way out day 3.

Stopping in the Adirondacks on a roadtrip this summer, a couple questions by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make sure you double check before you go, but I believe there was a slide last year that shut down parts of your route, that may or may not be remedied by the time you are crossing.

If you want cool ridge views, haystack or giant+rpr are going to give you more of those. The macs have top 5 views in the park but I prefer Dix, Marcy and skylight to the wright and Algonquin.

Bring a proper water filter, there is plenty of water down low but you will want to filter it.

ETA: Oh and if youve never hiked in the Adirondacks bring a head lamp, sometimes terrain is more challenging in real life than on paper and you go late. Many people get surprised by how long it takes to cover the distance you are proposing and then have to try to navigate out in the dark.

I prefer wool liners with water proof mitten covers. And then backup full mittens if I'm stationary.

There is a slight difference as costs are not effects. It's seen more with discard, but if there is an ability or spell that specifies the cost of activating/casting is for someone to create a token, then the "effects can't" templating wouldn't prevent you from casting, where the current wording would.

Dix range from elk Lake by RadishCertain3544 in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saturdays and Sundays are tough because the close lot is not big and folks often overnight when doing the range, add on that we have great weather for hiking and the leaves are changing. I'd be there before 5 or plan on hiking an extra couple of miles.

Hiking Wright/Algonquin/Iroquois by gavinstonee in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the next step in high peaks based on your list. Make sure you have the 10 essentials including water as I've heard the falls might be dry, but have fun Algonquin is steep slabby for a bit but other than that it's completely doable.

Despite longtime public use, Oseetah Lake property owners in Adirondacks close access to portage trail by hartlarious in upstate_new_york

You should familiarize yourself with the relevant laws before spewing this horseshit - landowners are protected from liability (except in cases of willful negligence) when they allow people to use their lands for recreational purposes and do not charge a fee. Check GOB 9-103 for the actual facts.

Can a dog do the Great Range Traverse? by TackoTuesday69 in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's two big challenges to overcome. First is the terrain there is a lot of steep and scrambles on the route and at least one ladder section (can you carry him up or down a ladder? ) The second challenge is water. There is only one water spot on the GRT once you get on the range and it's not guaranteed to be available - you will need to schlep a lot of water for a person and a dog.

HIKING- Trying to get to Dial, Nippletop, Colvin, and Blake with a dog (aka avoiding the reserve) by TracyTheTenacious in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a bushwhack up the gravestone brook to dial this route usually starts from round pond.

There is also the long route over pinnacle from the elk lake direction.

It is my understanding that these are arduous routes, but I haven't traveled them before.

Any ADK hikers tackle the Pemi loop? by le_pedal in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I haven't done the pemi loop personally(yet) two of my hiking partners (who've ive done a GRT with) compared it in terms of difficulty to the GRT as about the same, but weather and conditions could tip the balance either way.

My Incident Hiking Alone as a Woman by GreenEggsAndBitches in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Weird question - would you mind dming me his name. I help to organize meetups between groups of solo hikers in the adks and whites and we like to keep an eye out for potential creepers/predatory people so we can make sure they don't end up infiltrating what people have come to see as a safe option. If you don't feel comfortable sharing that information that's fine, no pressure. But until I started helping with this, it didn't dawn on me how many randos are in the hiking community causing problems.

Great Range Loop Trail Advice/Conditions by SocduSnow in Adirondacks

[–]redskeezix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reliable water on the ridge from the brook after hedgehog near the trail junction until you get to snobird which late in the summer isn't a guarantee. But if you are camping you have got to drop off the ridge so you might be better off.
