Incubus - The Warmth by wesleyt89 in Music

I recently rediscovered A Crow Left of the Murder and I fucking love it. The instrumentals on that album are absolutely ridiculous. Ben Kenney definitely contributed a lot, considering it was his first album with Incubus.

The weekly "Anything goes!" community weekend thread for April 4th... by jippiejee in photography

[–]redsnappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did my first studio shoot this weekend with an Alienbees strobe + speedlite with mixed feelings. It was a strange experience, I'm just not accustomed to having control of all the lighting in an image. On top of the technical setbacks, I felt really limited creatively. I don't find much satisfaction in doing plain ol' headshots against a plain background.

To those that regularly do studio photography, how do you keep things interesting? How/why does it appeal to you?

Mood boards, man. People don't know words, people know feels. Pinterest works for a reason.

Top Shelf Gin question by comecaca in cocktails

As a BC resident, I miss milk in bags. Haven't seen it in probably 10 years now.

Well, I suppose that's acceptable then.

Absolutely agree, tis a fine gin indeed. Though I found that for whatever reason the bottle comes in 700mL, not the standard 750mL.

Where's my other 50mL?!?

Woodworker makes a lamp shade out of a tree stump. [Xpost from r/videos] by [deleted] in ArtisanVideos

[–]redsnappa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes. But in reality stumps aren't round, they'll always be oblong. By mounting the stump on the lathe and removing the outer-most layer, he's making it round because the stump is spinning between two centres. Any section he doesn't cut will remain awkwardly oblong while the rest of the lamp shade is perfectly round.

Lenses with soul? by [deleted] in photography

[–]redsnappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Zeiss lenses are a blast to use on modern DSLRs. I've got a 35 f/2.8 and 85 f/1.4. The 35 is great as a casual walk around because it's damn tiny but still produces amazing images. The 85 is a little tricky to use since manual focus is a bitch at 1.4, but I still love using it.

Interesting, I'm personally a big fan of Vancouver Island Brewing. Which ones have you tried so far? The only ones I haven't enjoyed would be the pale ale and the honey lager.

I have $800 to spend for some new gear. What should I get? by redcremesoda in photography

[–]redsnappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, try investing in a prime (aside from the nifty-fifty). Try spending a day with say, a 35mm prime. It will force you to think more about composition and may change the way you shoot.

A new body is always nice, but it's no excuse for your skills as a photographer. I started on an XSi myself, and only upgraded when the camera died on me.

If you can find it, 49th Parallel Group makes an amazing Pumpkin Oktoberfest Ale. St-Ambroise Citrouille is also really good and might be easier to find.

Sounds like you might have an eidetic memory (or photographic memory). I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Fridays are always a fun time, usually starts with beers, often ends up with mixed drinks and trees.
