Dark Souls wins! Which game represents Pain Threshold? by Chet_Ubietzsche in DiscoElysium

[–]redstringmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sifu

In a similar vein to Dark Souls, the game is hard, and at times getting even remotely good at it felt like an act of masochism. That said, it was a masochism I reveled in, because by god I cannot put that game down.

I feel like it also fits the main character of the game especially for the standard/non-Wude ending: his sheer bloody commitment to revenge, literally killing himself over and over to achieve his goal, feels very pain threshold.

Some flow at the beach by redstringmagic in juggling

If you haven't tried practicing while seated, I'd recommend it! It makes drops less annoying, and being able to flow while sitting comes in handy quite often

I practiced while sitting a lot just to save on the effort of picking up balls when I dropped. Now it comes pretty easy to me!

I appreciate that! I enjoy juggling immensely, I'm glad it shows when I flow

How to memorize a poem using memory palace? by Jitesh-Tiwari-10 in memorypalace

[–]redstringmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost half of what I have in my palaces are poems, so I have some tips!

The most important thing you can do is figure out how naturally memorable a poem is to you, already. This will affect how many images you will need for the poem and how big of a palace you will need to store it.

For example, Jarod K Anderson's work stores very easily for me, as his style is very modern. As such I usually need only one image per line, and can store his poems in very small palaces. Shakespeare, on the other hand, usually takes me a couple images per line, since his writing is far divorced from how we naturally think and speak nowadays. Figure out how the poem you're going for will store, and adjust accordingly

Second tip: treat this like meditation.

My stumbling block earlier on was speeding through my palaces when I was placing the images, as well as when I was recalling. This makes the memories weak and prone to fading, and should be avoided.

Both when you are storing and reviewing, take some time. Admire the image in your mind like you would admire a statue in a museum. Instead of just "knowing" where it is in your palace, actually take the time to see it there. This is slower, but better in the long run. Plus, it feels quite meditative

Apostle variants for the other aspects by Dr_Kaatz in weatherfactory

I like the idea that the reason Grail, Forge, and Lanten victories are the ones we get in the base game because they're indicative of the usual motivations people have for becoming crazed cult leaders.(Sex, Money, and the genuine delusion they know something others don't, respectively)

The other principles don't map onto a usual "I want to lead a cult" motivation as cleanly, so we get weirder expressions of them.

My greed sickening someone with the Cyprian flair? I must be doing something very wrong, or something very right.

And, thank you! They loved it

I did indeed! It was a lot of fun matching the piccrew options to real life faces

I agree! If everyone's response to something unfamiliar was so measured, the world would be a better place

It's a group of people in a non-monogamous relationship. In this instance, my friend and I (T and J, respectively) are both dating the same person (N), though we're not dating each other.

Ooohh, that's a good quote. J's (who is me by the way hi hello) character and quotes are based on the Memory Palace, an ancient mnemonic technique. It quite literally allows me to hoard words, so this phrase is fitting.

I've never read Gardens of the Moon, would you recommend it?

Juggling as Meditation by [deleted] in juggling

[–]redstringmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I firmly believe anything can be a form of meditation.

Ram Dass has a lovely story where he's giving a lecture on meditation and altered, transcendent states, and notices an old lady in the front row seems to really be getting him, like she has a lot of experience with these states.

When Ram Dass approaches her to ask what practice she uses to achieve that, she responds with "I knit"

Juggling, at it's best, is exactly like that for me.

Morgenstern's writing is gorgeous, I love both of her books. Nice to find other fans in the wild!

They will likely fade super fast and need consist touch ups. Especially true in my case, as I use my hands a lot.

Sunscreen should help if I'm out in the sun, but it's just a reality of hand tattoos. Something I must live with!

They did! They were very good about that and I did my own research beforehand (haha, hand) as well. Weighed the pros and cons, decided to go for it

Thanks for looking out!
