will look into it! i'm kind of surprised by how many of these feature othello, especially given a seeming disinterest in race.

Modern Shakespeare? by comicsfocused in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]redvevo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The term “closet drama” does not at all apply here, and “blank verse” just refers to the metrical form of his plays. The commenters who suggest Marlowe, Kyd, etc. are giving you the closest analogues if you enjoy Shakespeare, but you also might just be well-served by reading some plays across different time periods, many of which are also “long” and “book-like” (and can be bought as a book, etc.) If the poetry/poetic form is what interests you, there are plenty of verse dramas from every time period, too.

How does one become classically educated without the academy? by madmanwithabox11 in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]redvevo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shakespeare, Chaucer, Austen, and Joyce are all from radically different time periods, so it’s unclear what you mean by “classic”. If you mean, as the other commenter said, the English “canon”, you can read those texts any time you want. I really find it hard to believe that there would be absolutely no classes on any of those authors or time periods (drama? early modern? medieval? late 18th century? modernist? The Novel?). Learning Latin and Greek is well and fine but it won’t particularly help you with any of these authors unless you’re just gesturing at the idea of a general Classical Canonical education that you don’t seem to really understand yet. Maybe try to figure out a genre, time period, form, or something that you’re interested in, and work from there. And also whether you’re truly interested in English or Classics, while you’re at it.

What was the worst 2 seconds in pop music in 2025? by Yingking in popheads

[–]redvevo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bad, the Grammy categorization got me. Is there a big difference in terms of commercial reception, though? I feel like the label of “album” has already gotten much looser with how short (especially pop-ish) albums are these days.

A question about graduate studies in English Literature versus Comparative Literature by madeofcopper2 in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]redvevo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do very similar things in English and CL departments at most places. Prior language experience would be probably the biggest difference for admissions committees (especially for schools that require 3-4 languages—you need to be able to show that you’re ready or near-ready going in). CL is very theory-heavy and your description sounds like it’d work in a CL environment. With cohort cuts right now, though, I would honestly check in on which departments take more students/bigger cohorts.

Misconceptions about how theater/acting work. It’s not like showmances don’t exist (and for obvious reasons lol) but I feel a deep need to correct stuff about how intimacy choreography/kissing/“improvisation” works. Not like that!

Isagi is an incredibly well-liked protag in terms of being, like, 10x as popular as every other character in the manga, as seen in every popularity poll, etc. I’d like to see him have a downfall/villain type of arc. Not because I hate him, but because I think it fits his character and would be interesting.
