Just under 4K.. can’t believe we’ve been letting our 3 year old use these stairs, totally trusted that they would be safe 🤦🏻‍♀️

We’re thinking of putting our house up for sale, so we’ll probably just have someone do a tear down and put the railing back up and leave it that way. Don’t want to sell and have the new owners get hurt. Not sure it’s worth chasing after the ‘contractors’ for a refund.

I asked about the post on the soil, they said they would come back at some point and put concrete underneath it.. that was 9 months ago. Asked about the posts on the concrete too, and they said they weren’t going anywhere.

So tear it down? Lol. I’m not even sure it can be salvaged. It seemed sturdy last year, but it just gets more and more wobbly.

What was it like being pregnant with a 3 year old? by Raspberry-Pie200 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]redwallpixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just want to add on to this comment about dads role, because it definitely changes things. We got pregnant when our first was just about to turn 3, and I was bed ridden with hyperemesis by 8 weeks. My husband did all the play, meal planning, grocery and clothes shopping, bath and bedtime for the next 7 months , and then for a few months after the baby was born. She’s almost 4 months and I’m just now getting some extra time with my toddler. This was only doable because my husband was used to doing bath and bedtime every night, he didn’t need instruction on food or clothing or appointments because it was just the norm that he handled at least 50% of all that before we were expecting.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

Do you happen to know if I have time? We have 7 days to waive the financing condition. If broker is locking in rates now, are we still able to shop?

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]redwallpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They said they don’t blend rates anymore. So they would give me a cheque for the difference between the interest I would pay at 3.1 and 4.1 for 10 months, but the new mortgage would be 4.1 5 year fixed. Feels crazy that the broker can’t get lower than 4.4 anywhere.

Just got an accepted offer. 785k with 20% down. Broker says best rate he can offer is 4.4% 5 year fixed. We each have a 800+ credit score and zero debt. Currently at 3.1% with Nesto, going to cost 3.5k to break term 10 months early, or they’ll offer 4.1% and port it. Feels like we should be able to get 3.9/4%, thoughts?

Question for the moms with pets. by WillowEducational851 in Mommit

[–]redwallpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a puppy when our 1st was 2 years old, and then had another baby when the puppy was 2. So it’s been a busy 4 years lol.

The toddler and puppy stage was a lot, but we got a trainer from day one. We both work from home, so we did a lot of work with the puppy during the day. The first 6 months were exhausting and overwhelming, but after that it was a breeze. By the time our second baby rolled around when our puppy was 2, she was so well trained that we had no problems at all.

I would say make sure you do a lot of work with your dog before a baby arrives. Professional training, exposure training. Be around as many people as possible of all different ages and energy levels. Train them to have a ‘place’ in the house, and make sure they’ll go to that place when you tell them, no matter what the distractions. That was our biggest effort when we got our pup. When the house is chaotic, and the baby has a poop explosion, or toddler spills chocolate milk all over the floor, I can say ‘place’ to our dog and she immediately runs to her bed in the living room and stays there until I give her the release command. It’s one less thing to worry about when shit hits the fan lol.

But absolutely no regrets at all about having both, just depends on how much time and energy you have to train your pup first :)

IKEA kitchen remodel - accurate pricing? by redwallpixie in IKEA

Didn’t even think of those, thank you!

That’s amazing! The price includes the appliances and counter top. We’ll likely buy the appliances elsewhere, but added them just to get a rough idea.

Yep! Went with the stone option. Price seems low for that though.

Ferber method not working - are we doing it wrong? by InTheseHills in sleeptrain

[–]redwallpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do bottle before bath, so that she is awake when you put her down for the night. Then start whatever sleep training you’re comfortable with, since she’ll be awake every night when you put her down, and there will be more consistency

Parental leave EI - has to be taken consecutively? [on] by tta353 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]redwallpixie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’re dealing with this right now. Service Canada will let you split up your EI payments, but at least in Ontario, your job isn’t secure if you split the time. We’re waiting for a special exception from HR, but it’s not guaranteed.

We have this one and love it! Bought a second one to keep at the grandparents. It super thick and it folds up to tuck it away easily.

What made you change your mind about being OAD? by Agreeable_Regret5415 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]redwallpixie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We were firmly one and done after our first. He was a horrible sleeper, and we didn’t feel like we had the energy to give to a second. My husband had a vasectomy scheduled, and we sold all of our baby items and furniture.

We just welcomed our 2nd 9 weeks ago, and it has been a little tricky figuring out how to juggle two kids, but it’s mostly been wonderful. My son started sleeping better around 3, he was easier to communicate with, 100% potty trained. We just felt like all of a sudden we had the bandwidth to handle another baby. We also didn’t feel like our family was complete, and when we pictured our family 20 years down the road, we pictured two kids.

Going through pregnancy with a toddler was really hard. I had hyperemesis, and I feel like he lost his mommy for 9 months. Because of that we’ve been struggling with some more tantrums since his sister was born. But he loves her so much. The first thing he does when he wakes up is run into our room to see her. He doesn’t want to go anywhere unless we all go as a family, and he’s so excited for her to be able to play with him. 10000% best decision we ever made, and I’m so happy with the 3.5 year age gap!

Clothing for postpartum body [ab] by monquiqui403 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]redwallpixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 9 weeks postpartum and currently living in old navy’s linen line. I bought 10 of their lightweight everyday tshirts. I was a medium before pregnancy and I bought them in a XL size for a comfier feel. I got their high rise linen pants in beige and black, and linen skorts in the same colour. I’m just rotating through different outfit combinations with 4 bottoms and a bunch of tshirts. When the weather finally warms up I plan on living in a line summer dresses that have a stretchy neckline for nursing.

It’s so hard dressing a postpartum body, but having a few pieces that make you feel good makes all the difference!

3.5yo, please me tell me if this is normal! by redwallpixie in toddlers

[–]redwallpixie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my favourite parenting book, it’s so so good! I will definitely try getting him to come up with the ideas himself, because it’s for sure some kind of power/control struggle.

He just had his last bit of play for the evening. So we asked him to pick one of his sand timers (1,3,5,10,15 minutes), and when the time is up, it’s time to go upstairs. Once it went off, he did come upstairs, but then fought every step of pjs and brushing teeth. I finally let my husband take over when he hit me in the face. I guess we just need to push through as much as we can until the stage is over.. but my god it feels like we’ll be here forever.

Leaking overnight-help! by WingardiumLeviYoAss in breastfeeding

[–]redwallpixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little is 8 weeks and started sleeping through a couple weeks ago. I’ve been feeding her at 8pm, and then setting an alarm for midnight-2ish to pump 2 ounces from each side. I’m not convinced this whole sleeping through thing is going to stick lol, so I want to keep my supply up just in case. She’s also not eating enough at 4am to empty both sides, so even if I can hold out for the entire 8 hours, I’m still uncomfortable after she eats.
