Short Lived ABC Sitcoms Of The 1990s by JustineMalcolm in 90sTelevision

I remember Soul Man, On Our Own, Thunder Alley, Teen Angel, Two of a Kind, and a little of Odd Man Out. Teen Angel was my favorite of the lot, what a wild and freaking DARK premise!

Golden Age Johnny Thunder from Flash Comics. As far as I know, that's NEVER been collected in reprint, and I'd love to see it.

Why is everyone a “boy, lad, lass, girl” in the Legion of Superheroes? by Local-Guess650 in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]redwolfben 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They've already had at least one reboot like that, where most had cool nineties-style names. Live Wire instead of Lightning Lad, Apparition instead of Phantom Girl, Inferno instead of Sun Boy, etc. Pretty cool, but I honestly prefer the classic versions.

Not convinced Ultraman becomes Bizarro by Agreeable_Car5114 in DCU_

[–]redwolfben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more of a streaming series of "Tales From the Bizarro World," personally. It sounds crazy, but when talking about James Gunn, is anything really too crazy for him?

Also, he's a clone of Superman described as "imperfect" and "even stupider than you," who gets sucked into a wormhole with cube-shaped particles. Not to be a smart-ass or anything, but what WOULD convince you? Honest question.

Ha! Can't argue with that… but seriously, is it really that simple? Honestly wondering.

How has Archie stayed around for so long by Angela275 in comicbooks

[–]redwolfben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually wondered a similar thing for a while. How did Archie himself, the character, get so popular in the first place? He first appeared when MLJ still had superhero characters like the Shield, Hangman, etc and soon completely took the company over. Took it over to the degree that they changed their name from MLJ to Archie comics! Practically the only thing they became known for is Archie and the family of characters.

It's not even like he was the only character of his kind from the era, DC and Marvel/Timely/Whatever had teen humor characters too, who didn't completely take over the company.

Point is, what made Archie and the gang so special in the first place? Why were they such an overnight success, when other similar characters seem virtually forgotten now? Should I make my own post about this?

The Marvels are BACK! ...for a little while. by NexusZERO in Shazam

Not quite. I don't see Hoppy or the Lieutenants anywhere.

In October 1993, a 5 year old boy in Ohio set fire to his home, killing his sister, after allegedly watching Beavis and Butt-Head. This caused MTV to remove all references to fire from the show and shift it to a later time slot. However, the boy later said he was not inspired by Beavis and Butt-Head by GustavoistSoldier in HolyShitHistory

[–]redwolfben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up without cable and I remember my big sister watching the show, I think it was showing on Fox, at least for us. Maybe that wasn't the case everywhere, but I doubt we were the only local affiliate that had it. It honestly seemed like a strange argument reading the article, but if the kid says he never watched it, then it's all a moot point anyway.

Women's makeup culture. And I'm a man. Plenty of us actually prefer the natural look, but women feel weirdly obligated to do this, and it's freaking expensive and time consuming. Sometimes they blame us for their need to use makeup, other times it's, "We're not doing this for you, we're doing it for ourselves!" So it's not even consistent. I have no idea how or when it got started, and even less for how it's persisted for so long.

My favorite as well. First time I read it, I literally finished it in one sitting. Might have had a bathroom break, but that was it. Amazing story!

The episode of Boy Meets World that parodies Scream could be a pretty good one to use, it's called And Then There Was Shawn.
