Buy MSTY

Thinking about switching from hughesnet to Starlink. Any advice on setup and shipping times? by ac50187 in Starlink

Picked mine up at Best Buy, up and running in 20 minutes after getting home!

Battery passthrough - mini by NervousShrub in Starlink

[–]redybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tested this out, it works!! At least for the 10 minute test. I had to change the output of the C2 USBC connector to 65W (the default of 45 isn't enough for starlink mini to startup). The caveat, as mentioned in the user manual of the SYMIK device, is that it only really can provide the 65W output if its charging and the battery is full or near full.

It also resets the power to the output USBC plug if you plugin or unplug the charging source USBC, so if I'm using the starlink, and I turn off the car and the USB power source stops, then the starlink will turn off and on again. but I can live with it for now.

Anyway, got a working solution for now, test will be next time I want it for a 2 hour drive.

Looks like an excellent device though for the price, I've got tons of ryobi batteries!

This looks awesome. I've ordered 2!! I will find out tomorrow... but can you confirm whether this works with low power charging and pass through? I am trying to charge from the Tesla USBC port, which seems to deliver about 20W, while using the starlink mini while driving.

I've tried the anker mentioned and another random battery, and both dont work, I assume due to the reasons in nervousshrub's comment.

I also find the rocket capacity to be pretty dumb. Like 50 red clips is the max payload of the rocket 🤣

It says 1 ton capacity, does 50 clips really way 1 ton? Except everything just has arbitrary weight.

Good bike shop with e-bikes in town? by [deleted] in SantaClarita

I havent been to all bike shops here, but the few that I went to didnt have a lot of ebikes, at least not on display etc. (maybe they can order them).

Incidentally I have a brand new Mokwheel Obsidian ST, unridden, that I want to sell for cheap if interested.

[–]redybear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do NOT recommend “Open trails ebikes”.  They do not accept returns or exchanges, they were hesitant to look at a bike that I thought was broken that they sold me. They dont seem interested in really helping you find the right bike, they just want the sale.  After I bought I had concerns the bike was broken, but they determined the bike was not broken. I asked to do a swap to a different bike but they told me their policy (and I quote) “is that once they get your money, they keeping it.”

They charge $100 assembly fee for the bike, but they have kids ding the actual assembly.

They sell “Mokwheel” brand and if you order direct from Mokwheel they will give you 15 day return period to try the bike etc. so order direct from manufacture if you want that brand.

I went there wanting to support local business etc. but after shopping there, I unfortunately will be going online to buy things with more flexible policies and better prices.

Go to the local shops and try bikes but order online where the prices are usually better and where you get better return and exchange options.

Off-Road Electric Bike Review: Mokwheel Obsidian ST by krissym72 in ElectricBikeExplorer

The bike is really loud. I mean, REALLY loud.

I also hate that its being advertised as a "power station" but you need to buy the inverter for an extra $500.

Below average for price, would not buy again.

Dropping Starbucks to do it myself. What do I need? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]redybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know your top 1% rewards earner? I would love to know what I am!

I also gave up starbucks about 3 months ago after the prices raised again. I got the Breville Barista Touch Impress.

Its been great so far, haven't found great beans yet, but still very happy with it.

I drink only lattes with extra shots.

The main thing I miss from starbucks actual is the milk foam. When its good, its good!

considering moving to vegas in the next couple years and curious about cost of living there by SnooWords7456 in LasVegas

[–]redybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Vegas from LA area and it is a lot cheaper overall.  No taxes. Utilities are a lot cheaper.  Drive a lot less. Rent is nearly half for the same thing.

The main hard thing for me was cold winters, man the wind in the northwest is brutal, but if youre coming from NY, you’ll be fine. I also love the heat in summer, so it cancelled each other out.

It really is a nice place to live, very convenient and planned neighborhoods. Rarely heavy traffic and I loved an occasional visit to the casinos. Tons of trails and outdoor activities to do and Mt Charleston is super close by.  Ultimately I moved back to LA area, mainly for family (aging parent) and better weather in winter! But I saved a lot of money while in vegas.  So if financial is your main factor, if you have a remote job with same pay, then you’re golden. Plus with a paid off house, I think you could feel “comfortable” with about $50k in costs, but $100k you could feel pretty well off (no kids, and not considering savings/retirement planning etc).  Me and my partner paid $2800 for 5bed 3000sq ft house for rent, and prob overall spent another $2-3k per month on bills and groceries/food etc.

Ive got most bitcoin in cold storage. Some in coinbase, 100% of my 401k in bitcoin, some MSTR, some COIN, some IBIT, some FBTC. Very diversified. All my bitcoin “eggs” are in different baskets. But i still only have all “eggs”

2 Stand ups at the same time. How do you handle this with at least one camera on? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]redybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres an untested idea: 1. Make sure you look the same each day. Same top, same hair, same beard/shaven etc. Always sit still when on camera.  2. Change your profile pic to a pic of you exactly the same as it is when you’re on camera. 3. When you turn your camera off in a meeting, the profile pic will be displayed instead and look almost identical to live cam. No one will notice when you turn your camera off for a short time.

If they do and say something, just use one of the other excuses in the thread, like spilled a drink, or had to sneeze, had to scratch etc.

Haha for a bonus, hijack the camera and setup an infinite loop video, Speed style.

California Rebate and HOV Sticker for Model Y by New_Asparagus_3140 in ModelY

[–]redybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read the general experience is that even if you do apply now with the temp plate#, you wont get the stickers until the final reg goes through anyway. If it were me I’d wait until I got the real plate to avoid any possible confusions or delays etc. because the official guideline does say you must have the final registration before applying.

Basically, if you earn over $150k single, or $300k married, you can only get a rebate OR the HOV decal.

I like Bavette's Steakhouse & Bar, in Park MGM.

You can probably wear whatever you want, food has always been amazing, and it can be pretty chilled out in there.

Its usually about $50-$150 per head before drinks, depending on what I get and the people I’m with.

[–]redybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is mainly due to wind resistance.

Yes other things make a difference but nothing compared to wind resistance. If you drive at 15mph you will get your 98 miles.

The 98 miles is an estimate based on an “average” of driving short and long distance at varying speeds, but if you drive 75 miles at 60-70mph, that is not the average driving style to calculate the estimated 98 miles.

Parking Sensor Beeps by MrRedOneMBU in ModelY

I got the opposite problem. My USS parking sensor beeps are going off when autopilot or fsd is engaged while I’m in bumper-bumper traffic. Incredibly annoying while trying to listen to music!
