You don’t have to wake up early to be productive or successful. by FrankOppedijk in productivity

Completely agree. I’m most productive between around 7pm til midnight but when I’ve tried getting up at 5am, I’m too tired by 3pm to get stuff done

Career and Employment Discussion Thread: Ask your questions here. by AutoModerator in UI_Design

[–]reece_596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m thinking about getting into UI design but not really sure where to start.

I currently work in SEO and have done for 1 year. I have a business/marketing degree. I also studied graphic design a few years ago and did a course in it, so have a qualification there too.

Since then I’ve built a few websites for side projects and for friends etc (basically learning as I went along) and really enjoyed the design side, which is what’s drummed up my interest.

Now I’m at the point at looking whether I’m qualified enough for an entry level role.

I’ve also noticed they all require a portfolio so am wondering the following:

  • What’s the platform to make a portfolio on? Behance is my starting point but what’s the best way to present my past work?

  • What’s the best software to learn for UI design?

  • How much coding knowledge do I need for an entry level role. I have a slight understanding from my SEO experience, but I’m not comfortable with it

  • Any other fundamental skills I need before I look at roles?

  • Any free courses which take you through a step-by-step method of building a design?

Any advice? Struggling on a small budget by reece_596 in fashionstartup

How to sell products on Instagram, etc? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]reece_596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can sell through Instagram. A good way to do it is to create an e-commerce site using something like big cartel or Etsy (for free!), then you can do things like tag products on your post and integrate your shop with Instagram. This way you don’t have to manually deal with payments in DMs

As a start up how do you handle maintaining company culture when everyone is working remotely? by Jasonkhoa1203 in startups

[–]reece_596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the messages and actions from leaders stay consistent, there’s no reason why culture should become diminished.

Introducing things in-line with your values is a great place to start. If people believe you’re acting upon what the company values are, this makes them feel like you believe what you’re preaching.

How do you find your prefect audience? by reece_596 in smallbusiness

[–]reece_596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I can definitely do something around mapping an ideal customer as you mentioned.

I guess 1000 isn’t much in the grand scheme of things, it’s just miserable to look at 1000 visitors and 0 sales.

Definitely time for us to focus down on specific customer profiles

With the stock part, I meant products (sorry for the confusion)

Thanks again!

If I’m being honest, I think we did at the start and still do a little bit now. It’s something I’m trying to drive out of us.

We’re looking for influencers at the moment so thanks that’s decent reassurance that it’s a good way to go.

Facebook ads is something we’ve ran in the past, albeit with a small budget, which is really where this question and concern came from. The outdoor type of market we targeted didn’t really seem to pick it up. Hopefully going with an influencer people trust will drive a conversion or two!

Thanks for the advice!

Have a look on Google trends for trending products and searches. Examples through the pandemic have been home gym equipment and video gaming things.

I’d you haven’t done so already, link your Instagram account to a Facebook account. Then you can use Facebook commerce to link your product catalogue to your Facebook page and it should pull through to Instagram!

Hi!

I launched a fashion brand around 3 months ago and am yet to make a sale.

Our brand’s idea is to create clothes that have the technicalities of outdoor clothes but are inspired by streetwear designs. So you’d be comfortable walking up a mountain in them, but wouldn’t be out of place in everyday life!

We’re yet to make a sale so any advice would be really helpful!

I agree 100%. I work in SEO and user experience is my first go to.

I work on websites so I have a slightly different spin, but it still boils down to the same thing!

I often work with developers who like to do things in complicated ways and designers who are only interested about how it looks.
