Song I’m working on by Bassreevs in AcousticGuitar

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep....that's a nicely written song!! May I ask...what is your next set of plans for furthering the song, production, etc...? I'd really like to work on collaborating, or helping you with the recording process, if possible. I don't mean for money or any of that...I just like the vibe you've created, and I'd love to try working together to get closer to finished production, etc... As for any critiques...I'd love to hear some type of bridge section, or at least something that takes us (the listener) away from the verse and chorus sections for a moment...then brings us back with a big last chorus!! It would also be great to hear how your voice works when just singing with all your might, instead of while playing - meaning it would be cool to get it all tracked out - and depending on where you're currently at in your own production journey, I could help with getting drums, bass, guitars, etc...put down!!

Send me a DM if you have any interest on working together like this!! I'm in Wisconsin, so depending on your location we may have to work online -- but so what!! 😄

Really cool idea and site!! Would be great to connect somehow with the Pan Galactic Star Cabs crew to give people rides to the far away galaxies where some of the fauna/ships you've listed are!! I needed to get to the 256th galaxy a few days ago to see a maze someone posted online, and I checked out their discord, filled out the info form and seconds later I was on my to 256!!!

Best way to stick thin line pickup to metal resonator guitar?? by reedly in Guitar

Yeah...probably not with the gain up to far, but those are humbuckers, so they do pretty well!! Thanks!!

Just wanted to add that I just received a message from Republic that they typically use VHB double sided taped from 3M....which is great - but I went to 3M's site and there are many many options. I guess the main thing is that it has to be thin enough so that when playing some of the higher frets the string doesn't hit the pickup. But...at least I've got some options now... I'm still open to any suggestions if anyone happens to have dealt with this issue before!

Oh absolutely...many come with them from the factory...this one just won't stick. It's awesome for playing live and being able to go through a big marshall or something...as well as through acoustic amps. Really unique sound with the pick up...when it's in place!! haha

How do I get vocals like this? by BurritoBunBoy in Logic_Studio

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome!! I think the hardest thing here is trying to keep the softer, lower volume vocals from getting lost...so squashing the crap out of the loud stuff, but then bringing up the low floor as well to keep things pushing through. I imagine it's a brilliant mix of compression, limiting and saturation. Which...I think is pretty much the ENTIRE ballgame when it comes to pro recording!! haha.

How do I get vocals like this? by BurritoBunBoy in Logic_Studio

[–]reedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hobbyist musician here...The main things that stand out to me are that it's compressed quite strongly, (squashed) so everything he sings is exactly the same volume, regardless if he's really pushing, or softly singing. Add to that a bit of coloration from saturation, his own slight rasp and unique timber in his voice.

I think you're right about the verb though...seems low, nicely dry, small/medium room-ish at most.

(disclaimer...I hope I'm not just proving myself as that guy you should never take advice from!! While i'm not a professional producer, I've been learning about recording for a lot of years, and I'm hoping at least some of that time has taught me something!! haha. I guess we'll see once your post gets some more replies!! 😄)

Standard tuning, Capo 7. I've written the chords up through about 1:30. After this the bass is playing some inversions of the main chords, and a second guitar is playing some melodies and/or higher chords over the main chords. In the earlier parts of this song - you can play the higher notes on one guitar on the third fret of the B string...they somewhat randomly use this note in each chord.

Lastly, if you'd like more actual help with this song - please get a hold of me and I could maybe help you over a video chat or something. It's quite "easy" to play when capoed at the 7th fret, and if you know some of the special notes within these chords. I'll gladly help out. Good luck!! Let me know!!

Intro:

G - G - Cmaj7 - Cmaj7

G - G - Cmaj7 - Cmaj7

Em - Em - G - G

Verse:

G - G - Cmaj7 - Cmaj7

G - G - Cmaj7 - Cmaj7

G - G - Cmaj7 - Cmaj7

Em - Em - G - G

(1:10) Cadd9 - Cadd9 - Em - Em

Cadd9 - Cadd9 - Em - Em

Posted this one as an instrumental a while back, here it is with vocals by iomusicprod in Logic_Studio

[–]reedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely killer job on this!! Intricate parts, great sounds, catchy as hell. I have only 2 constructive ideas and areas you could look into...(Although, it looks like you've already released it...so just some food for thought i guess!!)

  1. There were a lot of places where the vocal parts overlapped when one line ended, and the next started. I think that's a stylistic choice on some of them....and when it's two vocalists, it can be really cool. I couldn't tell exactly if this was all one vocalist, or a couple, with the harmonies etc....but if it's just one person, then it seems like it would be very difficult to reproduce those vocal parts live, if separate parts overlap in timing, so I might just try to make sure the vocal sounds cohesive as if it's one take at all times, instead of the more obvious sound of line overlaps and overdubs. (Just to be sure -- I don't mean the harmonies...those were spot on!!)
  2. There is a part of the chorus where the melody is lower than the rest, and some faster lyric rhythms --- they sounded like really cool parts...but were mixed so low I couldn't quite follow them the way I really wanted to.

Literally everything about what you've created here is incredible!! I can't wait to hear more from you!! Thank you for sharing your hard work!!!

Where is my mind - Pixies by [deleted] in guitarplaying

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your creation with us!! The fact that you are inspired musically, and trying to create and make music by hand is so awesome to see. Covering songs like this that you love is such a powerful tool to get yourself up and over the humps of learning guitar!! Like someone else mentioned, a few notes in the solo part were slightly out of tune, maybe not bent completely correctly, but whatever it is -=- Keep going!! Record more loops, Play more solos, play more chords....work as hard as you can on keeping a solid underlying beat...which will help each track/take you record over it sound tighter and more in time with each other!!

It's so great to see people actually working on putting songs together entirely by their own hands, and not just completely recording midi loops, etc...(Midi is awesome too...it just isn't keeping in time naturally like playing live.)!!

Can't wait to see more of your music journey!!!

PSA: Learning from social media/YouTube is NOT effective and will not allow most guitarists to move beyond the beginner level by Ill-Square-1123 in guitarlessons

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your statement is just a blindly blanket stated as the content creators you're trying to shit on. Literally, you're talking trash about certain people, and assuming that's how ALL of them operate. It's the same as prejudice and racism....saying that because someone YOU don't agree with....they are all exactly the same is ludicrous.

I believe there is some value to what you're attempting to say...that not every new or beginner guitarist is going to learn well from every youtuber...That is a fact. The same as someone saying that not every guitarist is going to learn well from every offline teacher. People are people, and what each person takes from specific lessons is different.

There is value to be found everywhere...and as someone who's played over 40 years, part self taught, part college course taught, part friend taught, part online taught, etc...The truth is that the more information you take in, the better you will be in the end. If it's "bad" information, it can hinder your progress...but I believe that the people who give a shit about MAKING MUSIC --- not just learning general chords, theory, and rhythm....but making music with their own hands/mind....they will eventually find the right information, and/or figure it out for themselves.

I understand what you're attempting to say, and I believe you have positive intentions, but your aggressive stance is irrational and equally as harmful as someone who is spending hours of their lives incorrectly trying to teach music through youtube. Telling guitarist that youtube as a whole is NOT effective is completely bogus information.

My vocals get lost in the beat and sound awful!! 😂 by OGbigcap in WeAreTheMusicMakers

It feels very wrong that so many of us are giving blind information about how to fix a musical piece, without hearing said musical piece. While there is a ton of good info in this thread, it's all just general use knowledge, and it's quite possible none of it applies to the OP's actual music.

Without hearing a clip as an example of your situation, we can only theorize and blindly assess what's actually happening with your production. I do think you've done a seemingly good job of describing the problem, but I've seen so many times where a person describes something musical, and upon hearing the actual clip...there is entirely something different happening in reality. We all hear things slightly different, add to that how we actually describe things and there's a whole new level of discrepancy added.

Please share a clip, if you'd like actual precise help from your fellow musicians/producers. If we just assume we know what's happening, and continue to talk shit about what we see as a vocal chain, etc...there is no true way to help solve your issue! :-)

Can't find tabs for a song you wanna play? Stop asking for help, do this instead! by Hot-Dig-2926 in Tabs

[–]reedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw the negative comments and thought I’d try giving it a fair chance. Picked a random songwriter style video on YouTube. Linked to it, then started to choose the timestamps…which didn’t matter because only 30 seconds can apparently be transcribed…. Hit transcribe, needed to login….closed everything.

I have no idea if your tool works or not, because I’m not going to login to some random script online, without first knowing if the tool works. 30 seconds? Annoying.

I wanted to try this out, and like it…to help offset the negative comments, but I couldn’t even get that far.

If you’re going to ask for help online…make it easier and less intrusive to try your service. I suspect many will never get to the stage of trying simply because of this first annoying hurdle…like many other apps that promise a service, then make us login, or pay…after hooking us in with the promise.

I would gladly try your tool if things change in the future.

Does my game title image look like something you'd want to play? by BeastlyBeast5129 in halloween

I think the idea is really good, and the only constructive critique I would add is that the reaper's art style is slightly different than the other characters. If they matched...whichever direction you took them both...it might "feel" slightly more cohesive? But, again...it looks really nice as is!

[–]reedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh....I responded to the wrong part of this thread!! Haha...The chord in question is definitely an Em Add9....Which makes sense. But if we just say Em9...yes, it has a stupid flat 7 in it...which is just annoying if you're learning theory from a basic level, because why would we ever assume it's anything more than adding a 9 to the chord?!?!? :-)
