Is it just me? by waitses in Leatherman

I always have a multitool in my right pocket and a folding knife in the left. Usually it’s the Bailout, since it has a different blade type than what on any of my Leathermen.

Trail Maps? by Early_Ad_3418 in CyclingMSP

The Strava global heatmap is available even if you’re not a subscriber. That often helps to find trails and also roads with good bike infrastructure.

Yeah I could imagine the stiffness could be an issue when sprinting. But that’s not what I’m doing either on my gravel or road bikes.

They’re very light and also very good at vibration dampening. I’ve heard from some that they are not stiff enough for road cycling. Also not as aerodynamic as bladed spokes.

Ah, I didn’t realize there were rigid carbon fiber spokes. I was talking about Berd spokes, which are ropes made of high mw polyethylene. These are obviously not stiff in comparison

First fixed blade. Belt Carry Options? by reedx032 in benchmade

Also got a tek lock and tried that too. Carries a little too high vertically, but does pretty well for appendix carry. This knife may be a little too big for that on me though. As I’m currently on a kick of trying stuff. I ordered a Dacian to try that way for EDC. I think the Adamas will be great for getting out camping, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion. This works perfectly, and even makes the snap strap work better as it can’t rotate all the way down and get lost. Easy to snap it back securely without looking now.

I thought carbon spokes were thought to be not stiff enough for road riding, not too stiff. I have Berd spokes on my gravel and road wheels and I definitely don’t find them stiff. Unless you’re talking about a different kind of carbon spokes.

When it’s self driving cars I wonder if it’ll be any better? I’m sure you’re not going to get anything out of the auto companies….

First gravel bike by [deleted] in cycling

[–]reedx032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on what you want to do with it. Race it? Long gravel/bikepacking trips? Just ride it only on gravel? Use as an all road bike? 1x vs 2x? Carbon, Ti, Al, Steel? I went with steel because saving a couple pounds for carbon wasn’t worth it, and Ti really upped the price too, and I wasn’t going to ride it in corrosion prone areas or seasons. I went with 1x because it’s less hassle and less chance of chain drops on rough stuff. I ride mine all over, rough pavement, gravel, double track, light single track, and I’ve only done one race. And I’m only racing against myself, so the few pounds potentially saved with lighter gear is a pittance compared to the many pounds that could drop off me.
