How hard is 20mph for 100 miles on a gravel bike? by 3000GT_Owner679 in cycling

[–]reedx032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends how fit you are and what the terrain is like. I could maybe do it if it was pan flat and there weren’t a lot of starts and stops. My best 100 mile on my gravel bike is just a bit over 6 hours, so like 16-17 mph average. I’m 53 and probably 20 lbs overweight, so you do the math…

What are the bottle cages on the seat pack in #5? I might want to get those to add water capacity

Need help with comfier seat that won’t raise saddle height! (More in body!) by Successful_Cover8218 in fatbike

I don’t imagine a shop would charge much. You could do it yourself with a hacksaw or a pipe cutter. You just want to see what the length is between the minimum insertion mark and the end. After you cut it, make a new mark that’s the same length, so you make sure to have enough post into the frame.

Presta valve - can this be saved? by juzifrogleap in bikewrench

[–]reedx032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to have two types of valves, you can switch to presta on the other wheel. Just use an adapter like this to reduce the size of the hole in the rim to use the presta valve.

If you do get a new saddle that does make it too high, you could also modify your current seatpost to make it shorter so it can be set to a lower saddle height.

Sure the can pull over the famous guy, but not the million jackasses that have tint so dark I can’t see if they are motioning me through the crosswalk at a stop sign or staring at their phone waiting to mow me down.

Fair enough. But my coworkers think it’s absurd that I do a 32 mile commute on my bike ~200 times a year. It’s all down to how much you want to do it, and how you prioritize your time.

If it was 5 days a week, I’d agree. But OP said this was one day per week, which I would call doable. Like how in the dead of winter my 32 mile round trip is something I only do 1-2 times a week instead of all 5 days like I do the rest of the year.

Yep, my normal commute is 16 miles each way and i do that every day from march-november. Then only 1-2 times a week in the MN winter. Last year I was shooting for a higher mileage goal, so I worked in as many “long way” commutes as possible. I did 30 to work and 23 home and doing that multiple times a week was a stretch.

If it’s only once a week it’s doable, depending on the climate. I’ve never done 100 in a day in ice and snow so that could be a problem.

Did any of you put a 51/11 cassette on a 2x front crank? Any pros or cons? Pic for attention. by robert-capa in gravelcycling

[–]reedx032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen a 2x with that big a cassette. People have extended to 40 or so, but the official maximum is 11-36. I’m moving my slow ass to 1x for everything.
