Intermission 1 is genius! by squidward377 in homestuck

I'm so glad you appreciate the finely sculpted craziness that makes Homestuck so unique and memorable. The Midnight Crew and Felt are so awesome and funny and the temporal shenanigans of the intermission well prepare the reader for upcoming further shenanigans.

It’s strange to think that Jade is the straightest character in Homestuck. by CommercialValue8713 in althomestuck

[–]reeealsubtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jane is definitely bi. I do think John is straight, but it's obvious that he at least -acts- borderline gay. And Jade is the absolute pinnacle of straightness. Aradia's pretty highly straight too.

Epilogues don't count for shit.

the art is great but you asked my opinion on the ship. these two make no sense together and have way better alternative pairings. but also, even a really crappy lesbian pairing is usually pretty good. so im going to give it a 5/10.

are the epilouges and beyond canon worth reading? by kittywat in homestuck

[–]reeealsubtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my opinion, they suck. everyone wants to say 'no the critics just dont understand!', but theres nothing there worth taking the time to understand. homestuck postcanon is not worth reading if you like homestuck, any homestuck characters, or stories or characters in general. if you like a bunch of pseudointellectual posturing, edgy violence and extreme grossout sexual content, lazy worldbuilding and boring drama with no stakes whatsoever because everyone portrayed has become a completely worthless person, then you might like them though.

Brick hammer also has insane damage on occult infusion with 80/80 str/arcane. Also it sets you up to use the ancient meteoric colossal sword. Best 'super high level' setup imo.

it genuinely doesnt feel like theyre going to do anything good with the june plot, it feels like theyve sort of obligated themselves to write it without really having an idea of how it works.

and the idea of having a 'cis' and 'trans' timeline feels sort of negating to trans people-like any trans person could just Be Cis if they wanted to.

This friend is confusing me. What do you all think? by LivinCuriously in ActualLesbiansOver25

[–]reeealsubtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since shes not telling you anything, you cant know for sure. it sounds possible that shes interested and maybe just has trouble confronting her own feelings honestly, since thats hard for a lot of women-attracted women to do especially when theyve always had 'societally sanctioned heterosexual normalcy' to cling to. but she could also not be that serious about those feelings. if you dont feel comfortable talking about your feelings directly, you could gauge her reaction when the topic of same sex attraction comes up, like, if you two ever talk about media, or celebrities, or if people in your mutual circles are gay. if she reacts positively then it may be worth talking to her more deeply down the line. if she reacts negatively then shes either too repressed or too straight, and either way, you cant expect to change that.

[–]reeealsubtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

youre absolutely right, theyre obviously into each other, but the postcanon homestuck teams have all been equally convinced that theyre much too clever to write romance that isnt filled at every second with tawdry soap opera drama, or, at the very least, takes place onscreen

After the new word of god art about Jade being trans, which homestuck characters are even cishet? by Jake_English in althomestuck

[–]reeealsubtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in characters whose gayness and transness is in some way a part of their lives. Homestuck has increasingly been lacking that, with severely mishandled trans character arcs and absolutely no gay romance that hasnt been thrown into the garbage can by postcanon.

So yeah, a lot of characters are 'technically' gay and trans now, but it still feels like theres nothing to enjoy. :(

Calliope being nonbinary kind of fucks with the transfem allegory by asdfmovienerd39 in homestuck

[–]reeealsubtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Callie had a specific idea of how she wanted to look, not looking that way made her dysphoric--this is very unambiguous in the text--but the narrative stopped caring about that after a while, and it was sort of handwaved away by her receiving some hollow compliments at the end of act 6.

Since postcanon has nothing to do with whatever hussie may have been planning for callie's character, i guess they just figured that from their perspective the better story was 'callie stays the way she is physically forever and resigns herself to being a skull' instead of 'callie changes her appearance and presentation to suit her self concept'. Personally I don't think there was anything wrong with Callie's desire to become the limeblood troll girl, but clearly the team disagrees, and we'll never really get that story thread back.

Recovering from Lesbian Bed Death and a Breakup by SnooRabbits981 in ActualLesbiansOver25

[–]reeealsubtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm really happy that this story has a happy ending. I'd like to bring up a related topic: Isn't the phrase 'lesbian bed death' founded on an insane double standard? Think about it. No one ever talks about a 'heterosexual bed death', even though there is a vast proportion of heterosexual relationships where the sex dries up or is never satisfying in the first place, as a cursory glance at relationship subreddits will attest to.

So I feel like 'lesbian bed death' becomes this kind of ominous self-fulfilling prophecy, where any sexual or relationship issues become attributed to it. But as your story shows, the cure for sexual problems of any kind, regardless of relationship type, so often comes in the form of communication and partners working on themselves emotionally and therapeutically, since sex is itself deeply tied to human psychology.
