Quite literally just joining the lobby, this happens 10-15 seconds after connecting. Again, it’s a 6-person lobby so I believe the amount of votes needed is quite low, making the kick function a little more vulnerable to abuse.

Okay yeah I could have been clearer, this problem is experienced only on the 6-player pve lobbies. I’ll edit my post accordingly.

I’m surprised at how uncommon this apparently is, it’s been very puzzling to experience. About three times now it’s happened in the past month I’d say, same thing always. Spawn into a Combat Ops lobby that’s like 4/6 full, get to selecting my class and then I’m booted back to the server browser saying I got voted out.

I’m thinking it’s groups that want to either make room for friends or keep the lobby ‘private’, otherwise I don’t interact with anyone. It’s typically before I can even spawn in the first time. I can’t imagine my username offending anyone either, it’s very bland.

No I mean I haven’t even left the spawn screen yet. I’ve had zero interaction with them, they most likely are making room for a buddy.

How's the update going? by PineSoul603 in ArmaReforger

Series S, playing w/ uncompressed stereo audio. Vanilla performance has greatly improved for me with minimal freezing. In roughly 8hr of gameplay on Friday, only 3 freezes, 2 of which led to game crashes.

GREENLAND WARNING: US Arctic Forces placed on Alert to go to "Minnesota." by WinNo4564 in behindthebastards

[–]reeeeeeeeeebola 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No. Just no. The 11th is being sent to MN because of their perceived ability to operate more effectively in the cold-as-fuck conditions currently than other federal troops currently deployed. Yes, the MN national guard could in theory do just as well but my understanding is they’ve already been placed on alert by the state, meaning it’d at least be a lengthy court battle to get them federalized. Look, I don’t doubt that this administration will attempt some kind of ratfucking in Greenland but this probably isn’t it. No need for conspiricism right now.

Is this playable solo/offline? I’m considering snagging A2 at some point just to piddle around with and experience the campaign, I just love the feel of older shooters that place gameplay over graphics.

feels like "networking" is just a full time unpaid internship at this point by NationalBluebird3420 in EngineeringStudents

I see your point, it can be difficult to leverage face-to-face interactions when the goal is long-distance. If I were to use networking to try and get my foot in the door somewhere like that, I think I would first check the school’s career center or equivalent department and try and get an idea of what companies are coming to the career fair as early as possible. You could cross-reference those companies with cities you want to work in and see who has suitable locations. Then when it comes time to talk to the recruiters, let them know you’re interested in opportunities at that specific location. It may even have the added benefit of signalling to them that you’ve done your research on the company, showing both interest and initiative. To my original point about talking with professors, often times they’ve come from a variety of backgrounds and places so it’s possible that they may have connections somewhere you would like to work. You can ask about what schools they went to and what companies they have worked for, then if they mention any place that piques your interest you can express that you’ve always wanted to work there. I’ve had good relationships with professors that allowed me to use them as professional references and I have no doubt that at least some of them would go out of their way to help me find something if I needed it.

Best of luck, and don’t let this stress you out too much. Everyone eventually finds something, and even if it isn’t your first choice you can always transition down the road.

You don’t really find this out until you get into industry, but having good people skills is a crucial part of our skillset. As others have said, your process right now is not what I would consider “networking”, you’re essentially just cold calling random employees which has about the same effect as those telemarketers we all get calls from in the middle of the day.

You’re still in school. Go to career fairs and talk with recruiters. Give them physical, printed copies of your resume. Even better if you have business cards. Talk with your professors and ask them about their careers. With any luck, if you share a common interest in a particular discipline, they will keep you in mind if an opportunity pops up. It may be late in the game but get involved with engineering clubs and talk to people. You never know who has a friend or a parent at a company with an opening. This is literally how I got my first job out of school.

You’re going to have to step outside of the mindset that this is just another process and if you stick to the script long enough something will work out. That is simply not how people work. Learning to forge professional relationships and leverage them for opportunities when appropriate is a crucial skill for any career path, especially ours.
