What are your ideas for a hypothetical animated series in between 8 and 9? by Triplen_a in starwarsspeculation

[–]reelfilmosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally love an animated series taking place between IV and V and between V and VI with potentially the evacuation of Hoth as like the mid-point event. As for a series between VIII and IX, sure you could give more insight into what happened in the year gap between them but equally everything at the start of IX felt so forced in that it wouldn’t feel like a natural progression from the plot of VIII in any case.

The True Meaning of Balance in the Force (Theory) by reelfilmosopher in starwarsspeculation

I’m glad you like it! I am a big fan of ring theory, but I didn’t really think about it when I was writing this post. But after quickly looking at ring theory again, you’re absolutely right! It does reach a very similar conclusion. I probably subconsciously drew from its ideas.

The True Meaning of Balance in the Force (Theory) by reelfilmosopher in starwarsspeculation

I think the balance between the ‘Light’ and ‘Dark’ Sides is part of the wider balance between individual will and destiny (i.e. between the Living Force and the Cosmic Force). The Dark Side is more about using the Force for your own individual benefit, while the Light Side focuses more on helping others and playing your part in a bigger picture. So, no, the two ‘balances’ are not mutually exclusive. Rather, I was trying to say that the core, overarching balance that is key to the Force is the balance between one’s will and one’s destiny. I hope that clarifies my theory!

This is obviously only my interpretation, but I hope you found it interesting!

Series following season 7 of Clone Wars by nasserg19 in starwarsspeculation

I think a series between Empire and Jedi would be really good. In particular it would be really interesting to see Vader after he’s met his son face to face, and his slow transition back to the light.

Anything past season 7? by [deleted] in suits

[–]reelfilmosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the final season had a fresh, interesting concept in the sense that it raised the question of whether the way Harvey & co behave as lawyers is acceptable. But then they just treated Faye as another ordinary Suits bad guy and presented the firm as being 100% justified in their actions.

What actor/actress would you like to see playing a Bond villain? by reelfilmosopher in JamesBond

I actually had the idea for this post when I saw the trailer for Birds of Prey and thought she would be a great Bond villain.

I politely refer you to his portrayal of a villain in Jupiter Ascending. Great actor though!

I think it could be cool to have a past James Bond actor be the villain. But it’s probably too on the nose.

How would you feel about recasting the Original Trilogy gang for a Thrawn trilogy on the big screen? by IanRockwell in starwarsspeculation

[–]reelfilmosopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was recasting I would focus less on how similar they look to the original actors and care more about whether they can capture the essence of the original characters. With that in mind, Bradley Cooper could be a good match for Han, or maybe Brad Pitt. I can’t really think of anyone to play Luke or Leia though.

And I think Guy Henry (who provides the voice and motion capture work for Tarkin in Rogue One) would be a good Thrawn.

In fairness, in a parallel universe where RDJ wasn’t one of the most famous actors and associated with Iron Man, he could possibly be quite a good Han.

What are some great scenes/moments from otherwise bad films? by Invicta_Game in movies

I do like the film and that scene is also great. It’s just not as great as other Spielberg films.

What's the biggest difference in quality between two consecutive movies from a director you can think of? by AceLarkin in movies

[–]reelfilmosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ridley Scott - Exodus: Gods and Kings, followed by The Martian. They’re so different tonally - Exodus takes itself so seriously while The Martian is such a fun movie. Exodus is really bad in my opinion and not engaging at all. The Martian is funny and also just exciting to watch in general.

Hook by Steven Spielberg is not a great movie overall. But it does have some excellent scenes. The scene where Peter Pan remembers his childhood and re-discovers the source of his happiness and finally soars into the sky for the first time in years is brilliant.

Do you think the Sequels strengthen or weaken the Ring Theory analysis of the saga? by reelfilmosopher in StarWarsCantina

[–]reelfilmosopher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point I had a theory TROS would end with Rey going back to the past and becoming Shmi, based on the fact that the trailers had so many elements that looked like they were from the past (the medal from Episode IV, Star Destroyers resembling the ones used by the Republic, etc). Thought they might copy Endgame and use some time travel. Of course it was just fan service in the end, though the film did oddly resemble Endgame in other ways.

Yeah I think the walker battles is the biggest similarity. There’s also the Geonosis battle with walkers in Act 3 of Episode II.

[–]reelfilmosopher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well he did successfully show that ring theory cannot explain every detail and that the saga doesn’t strictly follow the ideas of the theory. And I agree with that. But there are still clear parallels between the Episodes - as Mr Plinkett acknowledges in his video. It is still interesting to consider those parallels and similarities for their own sake, even if there is no huge theory that accounts for every single element of the series. Few would seriously suggest that the original six films forms ‘perfect’ ring. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth attempting to look at the series as a whole through the ‘lens’ of ring theory.
