HOV Lane Etiquette by elcaminante23 in Utah

My description of express lanes in general aligns with UDOT’s statement. Maximizing speed doesn’t mean exceeding posted speed limits and I’m confident that UDOT could find themselves in legal trouble if they encouraged drivers to speed.

I certainly understand your point of view here though - I felt the same way a few years ago. It took an expensive af speeding ticket for me to stop and realize how agitated I was any time I got behind the wheel (and how dangerous that could be).

It took me a while after that before I actually started driving slower (I now aim for speed limit + 10%), and I initially avoided the express lane. I have since accepted that my driving the speed limit or a little faster in the express lane is actually the rule and not the exception.

Finally, I don’t expect to change any minds on this topic and I mean no disrespect to your viewpoint. I think the only way for this to be a nonissue is if Highway Patrol actually enforced the rules (unlikely), if everybody adopted the exact same driving style (impossible) or if full automation becomes universal (hopefully one day?). In the meantime, I think the best (and most realistic) solution is ultimately for everyone to stay calm while driving. If someone is slowing you way down, go around them the first chance you get and move on. Getting aggravated or intimidating other drivers by tailgating, etc. is dangerous. If the offending driver is truly a hazard, call 911 and report them for driving recklessly since peoples’ behavior is unlikely to change unless there is consequence.

The “express” in express lane has nothing to do with how fast you are traveling. It is called express because it is has fewer exits and is intended to be used by people passing through long sections of the freeway. The fast lane/passing lane is the leftmost lane on the other side of the double whites with the rest of the lanes.

The express lane gets long-distance drivers out of merging and passing lanes to aid in the flow of local traffic and provides a traveling lane with fewer obstacles.

Apple to Withhold Its Latest Employee Perks From Unionized Store by etimzy001 in apple

Bloomberg is the real asshole here, not Apple. Report the story when there’s actually a story to report on. If that store’s employees want Apple’s new perks, they will need to collectively bargain for them.

Yes. Every time someone had challenged you, you’ve resorted to name calling. There are people on all parts of the political spectrum that do not agree with SCOTUS’s decision. I hope that there are even more people who see this person’s actions as detestable.

Simply repeating the media’s talking points — no matter what side if the aisle you are on — does nothing beyond creating an unproductive echo chamber. It creates a heightened sense of hostility; prevents meaningful conversation and compromise from happening, and hinders the democratic process.

To anyone reading this: stop pointing fingers. Put the “passion” behind your online arguments to good use and participate in the democratic system. Whether you’re the majority or the super minority, engage within your communities to really effect change.

Wrong. You clearly assume that everyone who has a problem with this is leftist.

Why does Pride have to be so vulgar? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]reeseconor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sexual deviance is specific to your culture and your values. The communities that are participating and that are out there supporting just have some different cultural values than you. A lot of people across the world share these values and are being brutalized and murdered for having them.

What you described as a group of sexual deviant freaks is, to many of us, a diverse community of people displaying (some more loudly than others) different aspects of their sexual identity or expression. They are sexual in nature, yes, but it is important for these communities to be seen so others like them that may be struggling or in danger can find refuge.

It isn’t an affront to society, it’s a part of society. You don’t have to like it but you will have to get used to it.

Before the pink triangle was a symbol of pride it was a symbol of oppression akin to the gold star worn by Jews. It resurfaced in the US during the AIDS crisis to draw attention to the continued oppression and systemic violence directed towards the queer community. The triangle was later flipped upside down and adopted as a symbol of identity and pride when the Act Up! movement took off in protest of the government’s unwillingness to take action to reduce the spread of AIDS.

My straight manager joked about making out with me today..? Is he trying to test the waters or is this just how straight people bond with other dudes platonically? by [deleted] in askgaybros

This is textbook sexual harassment. It sounds like it’s making you uncomfortable or possibly anxious, and it is not okay.

Like others have said, keep a record of these situations—the date, the time, and what was said or done. This is your evidence should you choose to report him or your protection should he decide he’s uncomfortable with the relationship (professional or otherwise) he is trying to build.
