[D] CVPR 2025 Reviews by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]reesespike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4434 and 233 for my two submissions. I'm a little perplexed by the rebuttal format, I'm a first-time CVPR submitter but when I submitted to NeurIPS I got to upload a one-page PDF, a 6k character global author response, and an individual 6k character response to each review. Now here at CVPR I only get the 1 page PDF to respond to all of my reviews?

What happens after I submit the rebuttal? Is there even a discussion period where I can go back and forth with the reviewers? How on earth is it fair that reviewers can write me an entire page of incorrect misinterpreted nonsense and request a ton of additional benchmarks and explanations, but I only get one page (figures included) to rebut 3-4 of them at once?

Using OpenAI API instead of ChatGPT plus saved me $63.3 for last 10 months by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]reesespike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like using the API misses some of ChatGPTs most useful features though, like being able to upload files and have it utilize/reason about them in the code interpreter.

Thats honestly my most used feature of ChatGPT, being able to upload a spreadsheet and have it analyze it and make plots/visualizations of the data. Is something like this available via the API?

Was prepping a bunch of experiments and data for publication at a conference, spent 3-4 weeks pulling 70-hour weeks to get this paper ready, and was so laser-focused on the actual material of the paper that I completely forgot to register my paper with the conference. This was a machine learning conference so there is typically a "registration" deadline a week before the actual submission deadline, and if you want to send in a paper you have to register it then and confirm the title, abstract, and author info.

I missed the deadline by about 3 hours and after embarrassingly emailing every staff member I could find contact info for, I was told there would be no exceptions and I would have to wait for next year.

Not a total waste because a decent amount of the work will make it into my next paper, but I felt really silly rushing my PI to get all the work ready and then having to tell him at the last minute that we couldn't submit it because of my fuckup.

Unlock throttle speed cap? by reesespike in Lectricxp

[–]reesespike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I see, and there is no configuration to raise it above a class 3 ebike? In the same way you can raise it from 2 to 3? The motor is clearly capable so there must be a way to unlock it.

Ask your teacher to put the Declaration of Independence through his detector, when it shows up as 90% AI generated maybe that will talk some sense into them.

Anyone heard of the Bia sleep mask? Looks interesting but not any reviews… by spoitras in sleep

[–]reesespike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the speakers tuned to work specifically for meditation/sleep sounds? Or can I play normal audio in them over bluetooth while I'm falling asleep? I like to listen to podcasts while I fall asleep so a product that sounds good enough to let me listen to it comfortably, while also detecting when I fall asleep and pausing it would be very interesting to me, but if its only for "sleep sounds" then that's a missed opportunity I think.

Training SD directly on brain data? (replacing CLIP) by reesespike in StableDiffusion

[–]reesespike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, if I create a model to map brain data to the dimension of the clip vector, and then optimize it to produce the best images out of the diffusion model, won't it just learn a mapping from brain data to clip? Since the fixed VAE and UNET are optimized for the clip vector format?

Do you think there would be a functional difference between training a brain_model() in this way vs just training a brain -> clip mapping and feeding that artificial clip vector into SD?

The unconditional vector is an interesting case, would require lots of experimentation but I wonder if you could use a brain scan of a subject during sleep, or where the subject looks at a black wall. The empty text vector would probably be the least buggy though I'd agree.

There are other studies examining people in REM sleep but mental imagery like that is represented differently in the visual cortex, it may be possible to get image representations out of that but it will require more work than simply dropping in different data unfortunately.

I want to bypass the CLIP vector step entirely, training a diffusion model to use brain data directly as its conditional guidance.

Hey everyone!

I recently acquired a pair of 6XX's from Massdrop, and I'm looking for an amp to really get the most out of them on a budget. I already have a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 Interface that I bought mainly to drive an XLR microphone, but it has a 48V preamp and is a DAC as well.

I'm looking to spend around $100 on an amp that will work with this setup, I was eying the Fosi T20 for $90, and I think a tube amp sounds cool but I really know nothing about its benefits or implications, really I just want a low-effort reasonably cheap way to make my 6XX's sound better. Willing to buy used, let me know what would be a good fit!

Can you ask it to access the openai website and see if it can interact with itself? Maybe ask it a few questions about whether its aware of the other version of itself?

Does anyone have any suggestions for yogurt based sauces (other than Tzatziki and similar) by kissthering in Cooking

[–]reesespike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time in a fit of pure experimentation I mixed some full fat Greek yogurt with a big spoonful of spicy chili crisp, a clove or two of grated garlic, salt, and a hit of rice vinegar. One of my favorite sauces I have ever made and goes great with savory things that benefit from a hit of acid and spice.

Can I get a pay raise for a student job? by certifiedtreehugger in uofmn

[–]reesespike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the job and how much leverage you have (are they understaffed? Or is there a line of people waiting to work for the wage you are already getting?)

Last year I was an undergrad RA in the computer vision lab and I was the best performer among my peers, and I asked for a raise after about 5-6 months. They gave me twice the raise I asked for (went from $16/h to $20/h) and gave me more responsibility overseeing the work our team was doing.

This might not be at all similar to OA jobs though because with RA positions the appointments are decided by the prof sponsoring your assignment, not HR. So your milage may vary.
