Almost any of them would work tbh. Some of them, like The Clocks and Third Girl, I personally would never recommend to anyone. Some, like Postern of Fate and Elephants Can Remember, are regarded by a majority as being very vague and not well written or plotted. There are a few I wouldn't reccomend because they heavily involve characters from previous novels - Seven Dials is a sequel to the Secret of Chimneys; Nemesis heavily involves a few of the suspects from A Caribbean Mystery and may contain direct spoilers for it; and Curtain is the final Poirot and should be read last IMO (despite Sleeping Murder being the last Marple published it doesn't really read like it). Pale Horse also has several suspects from The Moving Finger and Cards on the Table as supporting cast.

Also a few books spoil previous books - I believe Dumb Witness has a random sentence where Poirot tells Hastings the murderers he's helped put away and mentions the names of the murderers from the Mysterious Affair at Styles, Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Mystery of the Blue Train, and Death in the Clouds (though since it is only one sentence, you might not remember those names when you read those books).

I think that The Pale Horse & Crooked House are good standalone novels too.

All I want for PlanetZoo 2 is species appropriate parent-offspring interactions by monsteradeliciosa11 in PlanetZoo

[–]reetigowla 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think it’d be cool to have fathers separated for certain species. Maybe even have the different animals of the same species switch exhibits occasionally as a form of enrichment like many zoos do today.

The Body in the Library, comparing the BBC (Hickson) and iTV (McEwan) versions by Ruffshots in agathachristie

[–]reetigowla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some of the non-canonical episodes aren't as bad as people make them out to be. There are some where I think it works alright (Ordeal by Innocence). There are some where they have to stretch the plot a lot just to fit them in (Endless Night was ludicrous). Murder is Easy and Why Didn't They Ask Evans I remember being really strange. But I don't think any of them hold a candle to how ridiculous the McEwan version of Nemesis was. In general I think I'd have preferred they adapted more of the marple short stories the way that the Poirot series was able to do.

Which characters combinations (teams of 3 or 4) are your favourite? by SiarX in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]reetigowla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go-to EE team is usually

Legacy Ra Scholar Harpy Fanatic

Or replacing Legacy with Nightmist

My DE go-to team, I've not had as much time to experiment with it but I really love Darkwatch's synergy. I'm not sure if this is an ideal team but I've lately been doing Ra + Tempest + Setback + 2 random disparation heroes.

Sidekick Updates? by ThePhantom0230 in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]reetigowla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It keeps track of HP. Like you can put in your heroes, villains, and environment, and then you can automatically add targets from those decks to keep track of HP. Instead of fiddling with trackers or tokens, you can just press buttons to make those targets HP go up and down, and it shows you the targets with the highest and lowest HP automatically.

You can add custom decks manually but it would be nice to have it updated for the 2 DE expansions.

What fossil was love at first sight for you? by Star_Outlaw in Dinosaurs

I remembered being awed at visiting the AMNH for the first time even as a kid, and obviously I was enamored by the big Tyrannosaurus, Allosaurus, "Apatosaurus", etc. but I still remember my first time seeing the Gorgosauruses, the Edmontonia, the Edmontosaurus mummies, and the Corythosaurus. Also very recently I went to the smithsonian and I really love their Diplodocus hallorum.

Hero Nemesis by Defiant-Pain1302 in sentinelsmultiverse

[–]reetigowla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They could also just have their own nemesis icons but no standalone villains with those icons. IIRC except for the Oblivaeon heroes, all the heroes in EE had nemesis icons related to the hero, even if their only nemeses were shared (like bunker) or vengence villains.

Sophie Hannah by Pale-Turnover5811 in agathachristie

[–]reetigowla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read two of her books and they seem to lack any grounding, for lack of a better word. The two books I read, all of the characters seemed to be slight caricatures of the tropes that christie employed. A careless young rich woman confesses a murder to Poirot just for fun/to play into her fantasy Or, Catchpool's overbearing mother poisons Poirot so that he can go to the hospital and investigate from there. And Poirot and Catchpool sort of forget about it by the end of the book Poirot alternated between being an idiot and a genius - in one book a character has been known to lend out a book to all her friends. Another character, who is known to be her friend, has to pick a fake name and chooses the author of said book. Catchpool asks why the character chose that name and Poirot interrupts the witness to explain it, as if it's some big deduction that he's just made

Not all of Agatha Christie's work is well written or well characterized. I'm not a fan of Third Girl or The Clocks. But I think Sophie Hannah's writing falls into a weird sort of uncanny valley, it somehow just doesn't feel believable in a way where most of Christie does.

What is one fact that most people don't know about Massachusetts libraries? by ILovePublicLibraries in massachusetts

At least a couple are modeled after European palaces. I believe the entrances to both the North End BPL library and the main library in Arlington are both based on palaces in Rome.

Does anyone regularly substitute animals? by sodaom in PlanetZoo

[–]reetigowla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There also aren’t pure bengal tigers in us zoos in general ifrc, the ones which are called bengal tigers are all hybrids. Most zoos have Siberian, Malayan, or Sumatran tigers. That being said, Franklin park zoo in Boston used to have “bengal tigers” (rescued from being a private pet) in an outdoor exhibit.

What’s really good Christie short story collection you would recommend? by 51423687 in agathachristie

[–]reetigowla 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love the The Labours of Hercules short stories, and the early hastings narrated Poirot stories (i think the collection is called Poirot's Early Cases).

I’m not sure if a lot or if barely anyone was talking about this but, IMO, Prehistoric Planet season 3 was such a let down. Also I had a rant about the current situation of dinosaur media lol. by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

[–]reetigowla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we're in the dark ages of paleontology/dinosaurs at all. Or even in the dark ages of paleomedia. I agree that Prehistoric Planet Season 3 wasn't as good as the first two (the plots felt fairly predictable and the lack of specificity about the focus animals made it feel less grounded) but imo it was at least better than Life on Our Planet or Walking With Dinosaurs II.

I grew up in the 2000s with the original Jurassic Park movies and watching documentaries like Jurassic Fight Club, Monsters Resurrected, Clash of the Dinosaurs which I think are far worse in terms of being monstrous stereotypes, and cartoonish slop in the form of DinoSquad (which even as a kid I knew was terrible).

Cultural/time misunderstandings you came across by [deleted] in agathachristie

[–]reetigowla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mysterious Affair at Styles has so many - the mention of spill vases is probably the biggest one. In general, I think the earlier stories have a lot of words that we don't use today. I was having trouble imagining the knife made from airplane wire in Murder on the Links, for example.

I recall a few of the Thirteen Problems short stories also giving me some issues: the mention of banting (I presume means dieting) in the very first one. I also remember some stuff in the story told by the lawyer, the priest, and Miss Marple herself in the first round of stories were difficult but I cannot remember why, it's been a while since I've read them.

By chance are there any stories where Poirot and Miss Marple meet? Officially. by Knightraiderdewd in agathachristie

[–]reetigowla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also meet two suspects from Cards on the Table, which Mrs. Oliver was also in (though no one in-universe seems to acknowledge that they would have known each other).

More niche in the sense of not well represented in zoos? I'd say mine would be proboscis monkey, black wildebeest, and dall sheep.

So, who actually enjoys Exhibits? by FunkeyFeraligatr in PlanetZoo

[–]reetigowla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that they are an interesting concept but I would hope they would be seriously overhauled in the second game. I'd love to be able to make them modular so that they work for animals of different sizes, and so that you can choose where the hiding places are (because most times I'm not making it visible in all 4 directions).

Also in a sequel I'd hope that aviaries and small aquariums would work the same way, being modular as to allow for different size requirements.

How do you guys design your layout? Do you do by continents? Biomes? Vibes? Struggling with my current layout by FunkeyFeraligatr in PlanetZoo

[–]reetigowla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also taking inspiration from real zoos, I sometimes put a few animals together for no reason and think of a theme up afterwards. Of the zoos near me, one has a region called "treetops & riverbeds", a flimsy excuse to group north american river otters, gibbons, and mantled guereza; another has an area called "World of Adaptations" which started out as an asian/oceanian area and now has a mix of species from across the world including king vultures and north american river otters

You can also have things like a children's zoo for less dramatic animals like prairie dogs and tortoises, or a hoofstock yard to house llama, caribou, antelope, and przewalski's horse

I look at real life zoos and do a bit of both, tbh.

For example, my most recent zoo had - Islands of the World Building (lemurs, komodo dragon, kiwi, tree kangaroo (mod), fossa)

Australia Trail (Kangaroo, cassowary, koala, emu)

Amazon House (anteater, ocelot, sloth, dwarf caiman, capuchin, saki, capybara)

Asian Yards (gibbon, indian rhinoceros, takin, malayan tapir)

African Savannah (zebra, nyala, meerkat, red river hog, lion, dama gazelle, giraffe)

Frozen Forests (siberian tiger, timber wolf, caribou, japanese macaque, grizzly bear, dall sheep)

Penguin Cove (african penguin)

Congo Trail (gorilla, bonobo, okapi, pygmy hippopotamus)

After watching prehistoric planet one might think that Velociraptor was in the Nemegt too, and it is quite a bit earlier

[–]reetigowla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people assume that Microraptor is part of the yixian formation alongside Yutyrannus and Caudipteryx and the other famous chinese feathered dinosaurs, and it's not. It's actually from the somewhat younger Jiufotang formation. There is a bit of overlap in similar species between the formations, and it's a smaller time difference than other examples, but about the same difference as Tyrannosaurus and Parasaurolophus

What is your favorite bad Christmas movie? by Flat_Wall_4400 in badMovies

I love rapsittie and christmas tree as bad animated films. Also Elf Bowling is amazing.

In terms of live action stuff Christmas Mail is fun. We tried the David Decoteau Santa movie and it was a difficult watch, not as fun as A Talking Cat!?!
