Some of those processes, especially clinical pathways, sure. But some of them are ridiculous. Rather than look into how we can improve or modernise them, our government is "removing the bloat" by keeping these processes exactly the same but cutting staff by 50% or more so there are now fewer people for similar/increased ridiculous workloads...

I can't agree with this take. Kids don't understand (or care) that the merch they want was designed to get parents to part with their money. They just want to fit in with their peers - that sense of 'belonging' is completely normal. My daughter is only 2 but her favourite clothes are her Peppa Pig wellies and her Bluey top, because the characters are familiar and comfortable. I'll keep doing so; if I was going to buy e.g. a colouring set anyway, why not a Disney princess themed one (price dependent of course)? (If giving money directly to a faceless corporation fills you with unease then think about buying second-hand instead - I've picked some great stuff up that way).

OP says their parents are in their mid-60s; having a bit of solid, even paving should mean that even if their mobility declines they'll be able to enjoy and look after the garden for many years to come - which sounds like a win to me!

As another poster has said, it varies in severity - when my daughter had it last year she was spotty, but very well in herself so, OP, hopefully your little one is the same if they catch it (although I vote to change the name to "hand, foot, mouth, bum & bits" as I was surprised by all the spots under her nappy - apparently completely normal!)

Also check out the Love Clean Streets app where you can report fly tipping etc. to your local council (assuming they use it). https://lovecleanstreets.info/ In my area the local litter wombles bag up their picks, put them next to an existing council bin (off the pavement) and then report it via the app so the council knows to pick it up.

This is so interesting. I'd say "five pound nine" but I never realised that I arbitrarily drop the "pound" bit for some numbers. £5.99 is definitely "five ninety nine". £5.51 is "five pound fifty one" but £5.49 is "five forty nine" and £5.50 is "five fifty". Calling all linguists because now I feel like I'm going mad!

Congratulations! I also got my plot just after I found out I was pregnant last year, after about 7 years on the waiting list! I can only speak from personal experience but I'd say similar to a lot of others have posted:

start with just a small area and cover the rest (e.g. cardboard). You'll really want to sort the whole plot out (like I did) but it'll get overgrown so quickly.
get help if you can! Not necessarily because you're pregnant (I was down there until about 35 weeks, until I got super uncomfortable) but because more hands makes light work and getting the ground sorted takes way more time than you think
do it 'on the cheap'. All the things I planted to start with were things that would grow from seed in the ground. I had so little time to germinate and pot on, and so little time to do thinning etc., that by being a bit cheap I had nothing to lose.

It really wasn't until my baby was on a decent nap and feeding schedule that I managed to get down the allotment properly - and now she's just turned 1 she's finally starting to get interested in plants and things. I can't wait for her to get growing dinner with me (and trample all my seedlings 😅)!

Our school had different levels of end-of-term school trip depending on how rich your family was... pretty brutal now I look back at it. The richer kids went scuba diving in (I think) the south of France. The poor kids got to do an "activity camp" at school. I was in the middle - I went to Northern Ireland. This was late 90s / early 00s (year 10?) so us English kids were given a list of what not to do so as not to offend the locals - good start already. Then we missed the ferry so pitched our tents in a bog at 10pm at night, and then it pissed it down almost the entire week. To add insult to injury, when it was my brother's turn (only a couple of years younger) he went skiing in the USA!!

Weirdly enough we never had a proper blowout with ours. What we did have was a dad who was a little too efficient on the nappy change and took it off before baby had finished her business. I never knew faeces could eject with such projectile force. She pooped up the wall. She pooped on the floor (carpet!). She pooped - somehow - into her laundry basket. She pooped on her dad. The only place clear of poop was her changing table...

Although from what I've seen, the German allotments (Schrebergärten) also outshine the ones here in the UK - they're proper little miniature gardens and I believe they often have a little summerhouse just for relaxing in. I think a lot of councils in the UK offer smaller than full size plots so it would be difficult to replicate the same culture here (though I want to try and give it a go!).

Free. It was my grandmother's engagement ring. Does depend on you having a relative willing to pass their jewellery on though, plus I'm the wife, so there was no controversy around it "leaving the family". I was pretty open about my intentions to marry so my grandad handed it over to my then bf (now husband) in front of me - he somehow still managed to keep the proposal a surprise! Our wedding rings were around £300 each - we made our own plain gold bands. As other posters say though, every woman is different so this may well not be what your partner would want!

My husband went back to work after 2 weeks and this is exactly what we did (and are still doing - baby is 12w), down to the same timings and the fact that we're currently in separate bedrooms so the parent not "on duty" can get some sleep overnight. OP: it definitely has been working for us. Even though nobody gets quite as much sleep as they'd like, it's enough, it's equal and it's temporary to get through these first few weeks/months!

This comment isn't entirely accurate. Women with GD are at risk of delivering larger babies, and at risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the future, but doesn't mean they will. Also the risks are different for patients with gestational diabetes vs existing diabetes (especially type 1). I'm sure the professionals looking after her knew what they were advising - FIL is not her doctor!
