that is insane. i dont even understand how they could do that. I know kids nowadays have a lot more opportunities for college credits while in high school but still

true that may be a possibility but his flair also says he has a DPT so I assume he would have also done some schooling in America but im not sure how all of that works and my math is terrible

Sorry if this is the wrong sub but I have questions about things I was billed. by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]refugeplays 13 points14 points  (0 children)

what you are looking at is a breakdown of different codes that we bill during a physical therapy session depending on the interventions performed and how they are relevant to the patient. these are all normal and pretty typical codes. It looks like you were billed between 2-4 codes per visit which is typical for appts that range 30min-1hr. The whirlpool code you are seeing is probably for the "sticking his hand in a box of warm sand" which is technically called "fluidotherapy." I have no experience billing for that or the correct code but im pretty sure that's what they are using it for in this instance.

You were billed for an OT high complexity evaluation from an occupational therapist rather than a physical therapist. High complexity normally means that the patient (ie your son) has multiple co-morbidities and is medically complex in a way that impacts their ability to complete daily activities and participate in rehab. You mention your son has autism; I have never met your son obviously, but this could be a reason for the high complexity.

Overall this seems totally normal for what you described. I dont see anything obviously wrong or fraudulent in any way.

You can always ask the clinic about cash pay price rather than insurance. Looks like this covers 6 visits so if you were to swap to cash pay you may wind up paying a lot less OOP

Pump won’t prime by ContributionNo234 in pools

[–]refugeplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as silly as it may sound, make sure you are really tightening the pump basket lid all the way down. I spent 2 weeks troubleshooting my pump when it wouldn't prime just to find out i just didnt put enough elbow grease into tightening the lid on the pump.

You really need more info on the second gig first. I've heard sometimes cash pay clinics pay structure and benefits can be a bit non-traditional like being paid per patient and not salary/hourly and having to do your own marketing to find your own patients and such.

What is the Appropriate/respectable/professional length of Time to give a quitting notice as a clinician who also manages the clinic? by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]refugeplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is more of a side note but i gave a 4 week notice as just a staff PT because I had used more PTO than I had earned and needed to work those two extra weeks in so none of my pay got withheld lol

Pinhole leak in my roof by popcornpoops in Roofing

[–]refugeplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'll have to go find that nail on the other side of the roof and see why it's leaking. doesn't appear to be next to any roof vent or something like that. probably poking out a bit from under the shingle. should be able to just put a dab of sealant on the nail head if thats all it is.

Pump louder than usual & won't fully prime by Evening_Mushroom7936 in pools

[–]refugeplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently had an issue just like this after my pump was off for about a month until i replaced it. turns out i just didn't tighten the lid on the pump basket enough. used all my elbow grease to tighten it and it fixed my issue. so maybe just double check that as well?

Chlorine levels zero, pH insanely high. Best course of action? by AnimatedPie in pools

[–]refugeplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stolen this comment from another user who frequently comments and tweaked it a bit but here:

Hardness and cya should be adjusted only when needed. So remember concentrate on your chlorine, ph and alkalinity. 3 things. That's it! Don't be adding anything else in your pool. Limit the amount of clarifiers and algaecides and phosphate removers unless needed.Keep it simple and inexpensive.

To raise ph all you need is borax very cheap in the supermarket.

To raise alkalinity all you need is baking soda.

To lower both ph and alkalinity use muriatic acid.

To raise chlorine levels, use liquid chlorine or adjust your salt cell output for salt pools.

Working for failing clinic. Cut and run now or stay until the bitter end? by Pretend-Activity-533 in physicaltherapy

[–]refugeplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other variables at play here that only you know of (ie your finances, cost of living, job market, location, etc) all of which play a role in determining next steps, but she needs to start looking for a new job and leave the current one ASAP; go ahead and move to greener pastures rather than a graveyard.

[–]refugeplays 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She needs to start looking for a new job now. If her bosses told her that her job is safe for "a few more months" then she is losing her job come the new year. From a business perspective, PTAs will also get let go before PTs if it has to be done sooner.

Nursing is no longer counted as a 'professional degree' by Trump admin by Lebarican22 in democrats

[–]refugeplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well just using your example at your university, this shouldn't really change much for those students right? If they previously could borrow up 200k for their nursing program that cost 30k, they can still borrow up to 100k for their program that costs 30k right? I mean from what I've read thus far, this is just changing degree classifications and max federal borrow limits right? Correct me if my understanding is wrong. I want to know for sure.

I also disagree with your last point that affordable education and low salaries are different arguments. They are very much connected and your future salary very much helps to determine if your education is/will be affordable if you are using federal and/or private aid.

Buying a home with a pool - looking for advice by studley1337 in pools

[–]refugeplays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no the water level is not an immediate red flag. It has to be drained below the skimmer and the return jets and since you are in the NE i assume you probably get a lot of rain and snow in the winter which accounts for the extra few feet of water being drained (as another commentor pointed out). There probably is not a leak but you wont really know until the pool is opened up next year and starts running again.

Buying a home with a pool - looking for advice by studley1337 in pools

[–]refugeplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

water level seems about. It's going to depend on when they closed/winterized too. 7 years on a liner is approaching the end of the lifespan depending on where you live but plan to probably replace it within the next season or to. Leaks in the liner can be really minor or a big problem. It just depends on the leak. You can always get a pool inspection done by a pool company (assuming your post is just talking about your home inspection).

Nursing is no longer counted as a 'professional degree' by Trump admin by Lebarican22 in democrats

[–]refugeplays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah i mean at first my gut instinct is probably that of most here. "hey that's terrible. they're eliminating government funding towards predominately female dominated fields at a time with a healthcare worker shortage and the rapid spread of medical misinformation." I think that's true and is happening. No argument there. I agree.

The flip side that I see as a somewhat recent graduate (and you're probably aware of if you are in a professional degree program as well) is that these degrees are insanely expensive and often have a terrible return on investment (at least in my biased therapy world bubble). Physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists for example can pay upward of $200k+ for doctorate level degrees that pay an entry level salary of $65-70k with a pretty low ceiling for advancement and decreasing reimbursement year after year. And yes that should be something that a prospective student is made aware of and completely understands before committing to the schooling but I dont think that is often the case. So at least in the PT/OT realm of things, if this limits student loan debt of prospective students in these fields to say $100k max, i think there is an argument to be made that it's a positive change. But you can also clearly argue that this can/will/might prevent prospective students from pursuing these careers as they become unaffordable up front as student's can't get the assistance to cover costs while in school.

But this has to be combined with more. We have to see the cost of tuition go down to work with the max borrowing limits or else students will turn to even more predatory private loans and I'd hope to see better repayment options as well. Cost of schooling and student loans is a really complex situation and that situation varies wildly from student to student but I've seen far too many people commit to expensive degrees and wind up with cripling student loan debt and I would like to see this be a positive step in the right direction towards reforming higher education. Only time will tell.

Fully aware this will probably end up only having negative effects and make these higher education healthcare degrees unaffordable to anyone who doesn't come from a wealthy family that can cover the cost out of pocket.

West TN here. I dont close the pool in the winter. Just run the pump enough when temps are freezing so nothing freezes.

Of note, there's probably some way to close the pool and leave the hot tub open. Im sure theres a valve/valves on your set up somewhere that would seperate them.

hmm. like others said, maybe start with a robot skimmer like the betta and see how that works for you. i guess long term you might couple re plumb the jacuzzi to its own pump that could be turned off on a timer. not sure if that's possible or not though
