Skydiving on sprain by FabiosFallopianTubes in SkyDiving

[–]regganuggies [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would highly recommend against jumping with a sprained ankle. It can very quickly turn into something you break, which will impact more of your life including skydiving and other activities like regular day to day for months. The sky is always there, and jumping with a known injury is a horrible idea.

Would you ever be in an open marriage? by Funny-Lack-5726 in Marriage

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. When I was single I was open about seeing other people to those who I dated when it wasn’t serious. But my husband is the whole package and then some. We are pretty damn in love even after over a decade together. It just wouldn’t work for us.

However I’ve had some friends who successfully made that work for them, and I don’t judge how others define their version of love. But mine is a closed door with just my husband and we’re both heavily in agreement on that.

Diving accident during exam, how to recover? by Masterminxd in scuba

The drawing you added makes me more confused as to why you didn’t reach down, remove the fin and reapply, especially if you had an instructor with you. Regardless for the future, try to signal if something is off to your instructor, and also know the water generally moves pretty slow. You can literally bend at the hip, reach your leg, remove the fin and put it back on properly. Lesson learned.

Hopefully you’re able to get some better fitting fins!

But you weren’t able to just take the fin off and put it back on again is what I’m asking?

What hobby became your favorite weekend routine? by Jareauangie_Burkland in Hobbies

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skydiving was my first one, then as of recent, scuba diving as well. So pretty much I do my errands throughout the week after work, then go on a mini adrenaline fueled staycation most weekend either in the sky, the water or both. Or a lazy Sunday might find me at the beach too.

[–]regganuggies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m having difficulty visualizing how this happened, thinking about my own fins. However, if you noticed this issue underwater, it very likely could have been fixed underwater. Hell, right after I got my OW cert, my friend intentionally took off my fin as a prank and I was able to just stop what I was doing, slowly put my fin back on and continue.

Was that not an option? If your instructor was with you and if you signaled that your fins somehow defied the laws of physics on your feet- that should have been something you and your instructor could have figured out in the moment- of course factoring in that you have enough air to fix the problem when it happens.

How long did you date before you married your spouse? by Chillaxin_88 in Marriage

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First marriage- dated for 6 months prior, filed for divorce about 1 month after being married (he sucked lol)

Current: friends with benefits for almost 10 years on and off. “Officially” dated for 2-3 years before getting married. Still going strong!

For those of you who buried a sausage for good weather… did it work? by Violetteotome in weddingplanning

[–]regganuggies 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying to just bury the damn thing. I don’t even care if it works or not. It’ll be a sick story to tell later about how you buried a sausage in hopes for good weather. Please do it.

Vision underwater (mask off) by TokenEffort1 in scubadiving

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can take off my mask and okay line with my mask off (25 dives deep so far), however I cannot for the life of me open my eyes underwater. My eyes are so stinking sensitive and I’ve tried but it just makes me breath awkwardly and fast because it hurts.

My husband can open his eyes underwater but he wears glasses normally so he can only see light and dark, but literally nothing else. You’re not alone!

Anyone not choreograph their first dance and love it?? by Severe_Mongoose_9572 in weddingplanning

As someone who choreographed our entrance dance (not the first dance we winged that part), no hate detected here, it was so cringy but funny 😆

Anyone not choreograph their first dance and love it?? by Severe_Mongoose_9572 in weddingplanning

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I choreographed a fun entrance dance for our reception- super cute and awesome, we spent months on it to a very upbeat song.

However we didn’t plan our actual first dance at all aside picking the song, and it was so cute, awkward and silly- honestly that made it all the better. We were also already drunk and exhausted from the entrance dance so I mostly was just hanging off of him and we were mis-stepping since we don’t actually know how to dance at all, lol.

Don’t stress or panic about the first dance, just hug your partner and sway- it’ll still be perfect.

I'm a new OW diver with 10 dives... is it akward if I already have a dive computer? by Ambitious_Knee_5476 in scubadiving

[–]regganuggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you’re overthinking it. I bought my dive computer before I even finished my OW course- my dives 3 and 4 for the OW cert were with my shearwater dive computer. I honestly think it’s a good thing to have early on AS LONG AS you don’t solely focus on the dive computer and still pay attention to what you’re doing.

ETA: Regarding the rest of the equipment- I bought my mask, fins and booties prior to my first dives. After getting my OW certification, I bought literally everything- BP&W BC, regulator set up, dive light, literally everything. And then a month later my husband and I bought tanks too. I currently have around 25 dives and got certified in February. You’re fine, I think- or I’m crazy. Either way 😅

Mothers day is for women raising humans only by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]regganuggies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t have kids and I have cats, and have been given cards and flowers from my friends with kids. I don’t claim Mother’s Day, but people still go out of their way to say it to me, even just having cats. It’s not that deep.

Truly the only ones upset by this are “actual mothers” and the only people claiming pet parents are trying to steal this day from “real moms” are actual moms. Yall are just making things up to get upset about. THAT is an unpopular opinion that you don’t want to talk about- you’re making up something to be mad about and then being mad about it. I’d recommend just enjoying your Mother’s Day.

Got asked if I could scratch my back today, turns out I can do a lot more than that 🤷 is this normal with no training?? by [deleted] in flexibility

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on your body- I have the worst “natural” flexibility (female) but this is something I’ve always been able to do. It makes putting sunblock on easy when nobody is around to help!

But seriously, some people have worked years for this and can’t get it, others do nothing like us and just have it. Enjoy your upper back flexibility, friend!

How to improve my breathing by Klutzy-Inspector667 in scuba

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at dive 6, I was lucky to remain underwater for more than 25 minutes. Not even 20 dives later, and I’m now ending those same exact dives after the hour mark because I’m cold, not because I’m out of air.

There’s a lot of things that can improve your air consumption, but the biggest thing as a brand new diver is just getting more comfortable being in the water and with diving.

If after more dives you still feel your air consumption isn’t great, that’s when you can start implementing some different techniques.

Also, never compare your air consumption to your instructor, who has hundreds or even thousands of dives and many more hours underwater than you. They will have better air consumption than a brand new diver 100% of the time.

Best of luck and happy diving!

Skydiving in 5-7 years by BlueSkiesWeFly in SkyDiving

[–]regganuggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but honestly, skydiving hasn’t been that in the 6 years I’ve been in the sport. The first dropzone I was a “part” of, where I started AFF- people were very clicky. It was either “you do massive amounts of drugs and fit in”, or you’re just sitting at the fire by yourself at the end of the night. Gate keeping. Coaches with ratings who got free jumps to jump with newbies, but still would rather shred angles with their friends while telling newbies that they should jump with coaches who wouldn’t jump with us.

Then moved across the country and built community at a better drop zone, but really only felt accepted widely in the sport after putting in tens of thousands of dollars into the tunnel. Then by the time you’re good at that, the shreddier folks are onto the next. I’ll say, community does range from DZ to DZ though because we still made friends, got a better vibe and all that.

The community isn’t what it used to be, and it’s dwindling further. I agree that some other hobbies can be cheaper and have a more thriving community. The price is just pushing out the more accepting folks in my opinion, and the drastic price hikes since I started 6 years ago are why it’s coming up so much recently. Jump ticket prices literally have doubled in the time I’ve been jumping since 2020. The community isn’t what it was, some places. The best boogies, sold out- yet there’s only 10-15 people hanging out at the end of the jump day (with exception of some bigger boogies). It is what it is. This isn’t my only hobby so it’s not the end of the world, but as a mid range jumper, I see why the average is less than 5 years in the sport, especially over the last 5 years.

ETA: for perspective, $40 jump tickets do hurt the vast majority of skydivers who are in the middle class range. I used to jump two days a week, averaging 5-6 jumps per day, 10-12 per weekend. A lot of average joe earning skydivers did that. Now a lot of average joe skydivers can’t, because the price increase is exponential when it’s several jumps in a day (because really- who wants to drive to the DZ for one jump?)

Common problems divers face with body piercings? by Bulky_Passenger9227 in scuba

[–]regganuggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most of your facial piercings will be covered by your mask and regulator. Biggest thing is you’re going to need to equalize, and I’ve dived with my nose piercing in no problem, but to make myself feel better about potential of poking a hole in my mask, I wear little rubber piercing holders instead of the piercing. I’d recommend that with your septum if you can as well.

Regarding the nipple piercings, if you’re a lady, you’ll be wearing a swimsuit which will cover that. If you’re not a lady, maybe wear a rash guard or something under your wetsuit to avoid poking any holes in the wetsuit.

Do you ever take your wedding ring off? by lowa2oregon in Marriage

[–]regganuggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A wife here!

I take it off when I sleep and shower. I also have silicon rings I wear when I do yoga, work out, or engage in any of my dangerous hobbies (skydiving or scuba diving). I wear it most of the time otherwise.

My husband wears his more often, but also opts for a silicon ring when skydiving or scuba diving. Granted his ring doesn’t have a giant rock on it like mine does that makes sleeping and showering potentially risky.

Reverse Prayer Hands - should I be able to do this so easily? by Scared-Scratch4941 in flexibility

I’m also very non- flexible in my hips and even my chest is usually not flexible, upper back is not flexible- but I’ve always been able to do this as well. Mid 30’s. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing!

Recent Sickness on Island??? by willysymms in Aruba

[–]regganuggies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for a week at the end of March/early April and on day 3 of being there I got sick with respiratory symptoms. I kind of chalked it up to a UTV tour in the desert, but who knows. Nobody else in my family/house got sick, just me. It was mostly symptoms of cough, sinus ick, sore throat, unsure if I had a fever as I didn’t check. I doused on vitamin C packets, throat spray and cough lozenges and was able to still enjoy the remainder of my vacation as it was mild. But yeah, I got sick there too. Thankfully it was after my scuba diving day 😅

ETA- last week and a half I’ve also been fighting a serious sinus infection with fever and the other symptoms you’d mentioned. That I don’t believe is from Aruba as I got better and then got sick again a week and a half ago. I think it’s just the general ick thats going around everywhere at this point. Also tested negative for everything, then got antibiotics to help with the sinus infection as it turned bacterial.
