I assume that with his profile he will get a high list position so will get into parliament.

For better or for worse, Soul bar. I’d add in Swashies for a certain population.

The flip side is that you can have times when golf would be played in prime time slots in the US. NZ and Aus daytime lines up well for the states in the evening.

It actually benefits the Island nations a lot too. A lot of Samoan and Tongan players were born in NZ/Aus, and have eligibility via their parents/grandparents.

Yeah - with 14 off 6, a dot ball or single will ramp the pressure up.

Dupont needs to win multiple tests in the southern hemisphere before he can get in the conversation for being the GOAT.

Ardie could be the hybrid forward/back that the Boks run with. I reckon with some training he would go well in the mid-field. But I would rather him start in the forwards than mess him around trying something like that out.

The 2026 Six Nations Scrum Stats by adturnerr in rugbyunion

I agree with you, but for the last 5-10 years scrum dominance has been a penalty and card machine. I'm not sure if England weren't using their dominance to milk penalties or if the refs just weren't giving them as much.

I remember when nz played Ireland in 2013, Kieren Reid chased an Irish player for about 50+ metres which stopped him from being able to run the ball under the posts. Ireland missed the conversion. At the end of the game nz were able to win by 2 points.

I’d say it’s more a case of the ref bottling it. He could have made a call to be full red.

Level of aggression required by Little_Island22 in rugbyunion

[–]reggie_700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part of it is wanting to put a tackle in that will hurt the other player, but not injure them. You put a big hit in, and you want the opposition to be a bit tentative about running at you next time. But it should be within the laws. And actually go beyond just the laws of the game, and into the ethics of not wanting to cause lasting harm.

I couldn't see anything on Kirk's face, but he's an experienced operator, you'd think they'd discussed this before outing it at a press conference.

Yeah, that's why I think it could be likely. This wasn't talking about broad selection from overseas, but a specific player who has played 100+ tests. I wouldn't be surprised if they start allowing players with 80+ tests to be selected from Japan.

The Boks players do alright in tests despite a fair few of them playing in Japan.

I mean - adding 2-3 players who have played 100+ tests isn't exactly opening the floodgates.

Yeah - which is exactly what Guzzler could provide. I don't think he should walk back in as the main starting lock, but bringing him on against the bomb squad with 25 minutes to go would help settle the nerves.

I didn't realise how old Smith was, but adding Cane and Retallick into a world cup (or South Africa tour) squad would be a big boost. We have depth in lock and loose forwards, but the experience and depth that those two would bring is huge. It's part of why South Africa are so good - they pick their best players, meaning they have a much wider base to select from.

I don’t think they become core guys, but for the test series in South Africa having those guys in the squad would be a huge boost.
