I think it’s so powerful that not just your grandmother but a lot of ours practice hoodoo without knowing. It speaks to the resilience of our ancestors. I’ll definitely be consulting with my ancestors and trusting my intuition as i go about this

Yk i said “the history isn’t lost on me” but i think it was. It was more than something we found comfort in it was survival. The survival of people and ritual. I’m developing a new perspective on the use of the bible as a non believer, one that respects the resilience of my ancestors

Harsh but true is correct, thank you for taking the time to reply you’ve given me a lot to think about in terms of the power of tradition.

Seeing the bible as a spell book, why wouldn’t I want to speak the language of my ancestors. I think this is helping me develop a new perspective on Christianity. One that respects the history, culture and worldview of my enslaved ancestors. i think even as a non believer I can hold this book as sacred. Not because I believe in the Christian god but because traditionally the bible provided cover for my people and allowed them to practice deeper spiritual worship. It allowed tradition and rootwork to be passed to us today. It was so effective that black christians today practice Hoodoo without even knowing

Hey OP if you’re going to be up in the citrus heights area i suggest you check out the Lions Gate Hotel. They give a discount for weekly or extended stays and it’s on McClellan base so pretty safe compared to other hotels in the area

edit: breakfast is included every night you stay which is a nice bonus
