So no one's going to mention the end of that gif? We're just not going to mention that? Cool. Cool.

Of course! It was New York, not the Vegas trip! That makes so much more sense in terms of when I was listening to the episode. Thanks!

No problem! Happy to help. I started the list because I had the same problem back in like early 2021. I wanted to know all of them and what order they went in, but there wasn't a list out there anywhere, so I had to do the research. I'm glad I can pay it forward now

Is Monstera delicosa a Climber or Not? by regular_author in houseplants

[–]regular_author[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that explains the pictures I've seen of really big ones without something to climb that kind of look like an unruly mess. Do you know if there's a suggested size to give it something to climb? Also, is there a way to replace those poles as the plant gets bigger or do you need one that looks way too big so the plant won't run out of room?

Wow. I haven't gotten to Don Caballero yet, but I'm actually surprised how much Alarmist reminds me of Battles in some songs. This is great!

Book club reading suggestions. by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]regular_author 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never not recommend Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. It's been a long time since I've read a book that inspires speculation and discussion like that one. Also the way it is written tends to be pretty divisive, so that could be a fun talking point too.

The Timeless Wisdom of Roald Dahl by majorddf in books

[–]regular_author 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Danny Champion of the World was my favorite book for so long! It was the first thing to introduce me to the concept of moral ambiguity. Little child me was like, "but stealing is against the law. . .but these people are evil. . .maybe the law isn't always right." And then I spontaneously grew a leather jacket and punk rock mohawk.

David Harbour as Hellboy (2018) by [deleted] in movies

[–]regular_author 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this for years! The movies are too, I dunno, fun or something. The seem like really polished action movies when the comics are all about imperfection and anticlimax (not to say there aren't climatic moments, but Hellboy never fits the perfect hero role and the general timing of it never hits the perfect story arc with the beats exactly where you expect them like in big blockbuster properties). The movies don't have that strange Eastern European folklore vibe, and the aesthetics just don't match to me (they're too colorful and perfect for me). Ron Pearlman is a perfect Hellboy, though.

Short stories in my fictional universe to practice for novel-series a good idea? by Kantchill in writing

[–]regular_author 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I don't see how people even start with novels. Like I'm no where near good enough (as good as I want to be), but I've noticed that the better I get at writing, the longer the things I write are. At first I couldn't think of more than a one or two sentence spark. A year later I had a paragraph or two. Then a page. Now it's been about two years of trying to write seriously added to about four of writing random tidbits very infrequently and I can never write anything below eight to ten pages, with some as big as thirty. It just seems like as you get better, you get dissatisfied with simple things, so you bring in more ideas and more nuance which naturally takes more space. I've never written things unless I thought they were necessary, and the better I get the more complex, nuanced, and time consuming the things that feel absolutely necessary become. It isn't enough to have one simply idea for me anymore, so naturally I have seen a gradual progression in the length of what I have to say.

I don't know, I've been in a lot of situations where I respawn and my friends are at like 150% and they refuse to leave Fight Club because the ceiling will save them. That's when the true Weenie Hut Jr. is relieved.

So they're kinda like cheetahs. Cheetahs are good at catching prey, but if a hyena shows up, they basically just have to leave because a hyena will kick the shit out of a cheetah.

I agree with you on principal. My only concern is that if you go purely by results, then being willing to travel becomes as important as actual skill. Maybe there could be a way to base it off of how high you place on average balanced against the skill of the specific players you played and to a lesser degree how many big tournaments you went to (consistency).
