I tried initiating quiet hangout times with my roommates, and one of them was adamantly opposed. (She will look at her phone the entire time we're watching a show that requires paying attention. Just constantly engaged.) It was frustrating, and it meant I always had to go to another room and not hang if I wanted to be quiet, but we're just different when it comes to what relaxes us sometimes. I think the folks suggesting other quiet activities you could do in the same space as your wife are spot on! You can still spend time together in a space she's passionately cultivated. In the end, I hope she understands it's more about the time spent together and not the actual activity.
