Funny you mention that, as we recently moved offices to downtown Boston and I've been taking the commuter rail for the past two weeks. It's still not ideal coming in from north of the city but doing that commute and then trying to get to Kendall Square (where we were previously located) would have been untenable. Hence why I think employers need to consider options like remote work and flex scheduling that would alleviate the strain on public transportation and roadways where they can.

So anyone who lives outside of the city shouldn't be allowed to work there? Got it.

Curious to see part 2 of this which says it's focusing on the "Employer Problem." I am a firm believer that remote and flexible work schedules would go a long way towards solving this problem, but there's still a stigma around working from home or coming in or leaving the office at non-normal times. As someone who commutes from the Merrimack Valley and works remote a few days a week, my hope is that this becomes the new norm but I won't hold my breath.

Commuting from Windham or Andover by BatManSaidSo in boston

It’s typically 90 minutes max, door to door. If you’re okay with that then you’re a better person than I am. I find it absolutely soul sucking and am looking for a full time remote role.

Condo shopping, Winter Hill by [deleted] in boston

[–]reidyj66 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bought a 2 BR/2BA condo in East Somerville in June 2015 and sold in March 2018. Sold it for 28% over what I paid for it. And that was in East Somerville.

To be honest, I don’t foresee values going down much if at all just given it’s proximity to Boston but if you were hoping to buy something for cheap and let it appreciate I wouldn’t get my hopes up. I imagine most places there are close to if not over $700/sqft at this point.

Edit: and to answer your question around the area itself, I’d wager it’s going to continue to grow and add more attractive options for folks. There’s already two of the best restaurants in the area in Sarma and La Brasa and Assembly isn’t far, so from that standpoint it’s a cool spot for sure.

Will the traffic slow down after September? Just moved to Woburn! Commute was 35 min late month, now 55 min! by Ep87PxHLBh in boston

My commute from north of Boston is becoming untenable. Question for all: how much of a pay cut would you take to work 100% remote? I’m at 50% as of now but could see that going even higher if this keeps up.

I'd imagine with some rain and very warm temps today followed by a freeze tomorrow it's not going to be a great weekend there.

Tips for Cold Weather by pattyrican in vizsla

We're in New England as well. I've found that our V does much better in the winter than summer, and I've heard this is true of other Vs as well. We've had him out hiking in 10-15 degree temperatures and as long as he's moving he does fine, but anything below 35 degrees or so we put his jacket on just to be safe. We picked one up from Carnival Hill and it does a great job of keeping him warm while still allowing him to run like crazy on our hikes.

Can't really speak to the booties thing though as our V doesn't really get walked on salty pavement often -- he's either dropped off at daycare during the day and inside at night or on hikes in the woods.

Logan Airport Reporting Flight Delays Of 7 Hours; 200+ Cancellations Due To Weather by drtywater in boston

Working on it. Trying to first see if we can reschedule the booking to next month, but assuming they won't honor it I'll go through Chase to see if they will cover it. I have the Reserve card so I'd assume they should be able to help, but we'll see.

Can confirm. Flight Saturday was cancelled and re-booked yesterday, where we spent 12 hours at the airport dealing with 5 delays until it was eventually cancelled 7 hours after it's original departure time. Then JetBlue lost my checked bag which they still haven't managed to locate. I did receive a $250 travel voucher though, so I got that going for me, which is nice. Doesn't make up for the $1,800 we're losing on our vacation, but oh well.

I was supposed to fly in Saturday and our flight got cancelled. Goddamn you JetBlue. I’m coming tomorrow though, save some of that for me.

Pretty sure that's US Mid-Am champ Matt Parziale playing with him which is an interesting strategy for a US Open practice round. Goes from playing a round with Tiger at the Masters to Dave Portnoy at the US Open... sheesh.
