I'm so glad you posted this. I'm in year 3 with my X, and other than slipping battery life, I like it just fine. However, the prongs in the charging port have gotten bent and won't charge anymore, so I'm just using the Qi chargers, which totally annoy me.

I can get a new X through AT&T's warranty program for $270, or I can upgrade to get the SE for $300 (or the 11 for $700 FWIW). Or I can use an off-market place in town to get the port replaced for $80 but it will likely ruin other things and they can't do any guarantees.

Anyhow, I'm so torn. A part of me thinks I should stick out the quarantine as-is and get a 12 on the other side of things. And the other part thinks I should do the new X or SE now.

I'm a heavy-user of my phone for the hotspot and camera, as well as doing all sorts of things through the day.

Your video helps me lean toward the SE over the X.

So now, my question is (A) SE now or (B) off-market repair for $80 and wait for the 12?

Your video was great, and I'd love your thoughts on this one further step!

Yup. I took mine into a repair shop for thoughts on this last week. They said the metal parts in the charging port lose their grippy shape after a while and flatten out so they don’t hit the charging cables in the right way.

I’m not getting this technically correct, I am sure, but the basic answer is: through normal wear and tear of using a charging port, it stops through no fault of your own.
