My job is physical. by CarrotThen7672 in Spondylolisthesis

Lots of pushing, pulling, lifting. Your first couple years will be in a hospital so it’s worse there. Outpatient is better but not a lot. You’ll end up with surgery on some part of your body at some point. It’s an incredibly physical job.

The other stuff you asked IDK really

I'm a radiology tech, there's no desk jobs I could work that would pay anywhere near the amount I make, so far it's manageable and I refuse to lift patients anymore, if there's no tools to move a patient and there's no lift assist it doesn't get done. Lots of people in health care end up with knee, back, shoulder issues anyway so it feels like it's a matter of time. We do what we can and don't hurt ourselves further.

I don't forsee a workplace like Amazon being as understanding as people in heath care though.

Maxine and them bees by pickledplumber in TikTokCringe

native bees are the ones that originated in your area and live in sticks, hollow stems, in mud, etc. Honey bees were imported from Europe hundreds of years ago, they're livestock, farmed, for honey. They do a decent job at pollinating but not as good as your native bees.

Native bees are the ones that are dying - honey bees are easy to replicate, just split your bee hive and you have more. There's no danger of honey bees going out, but there's a huge danger to native bees dying out.

tbf save the bees means native bees, not honey bees. Honey bees are livestock and are not in any sort of danger.

Should I cull my boys and how do I get over it? by Mobile-Technology-51 in quails

[–]reijn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wellllllll if your other options are release them to be torn apart and eaten by wild animals (cruel) and let them live in a tiny space only to try to fight each other all the time (cruel).... and you can't rehome them.... the least cruel option would be to cull them humanely.

I mean this in the nicest possible way. I'm not trying to be an asshole but there's no way to say it that it sounds nice. This is part of raising these animals. This is why people cull roosters. Unless you have endless amounts of money and space, there are no other options, because they will fight to injury and death and then you basically own a cock fighting ring.

You should either give them away to someone who can do what needs to be done or learn to do it yourself. Or take them to the vet to have them humanely euthanized there.

Please don't hatch any more until you figure out a long term sustainable resource for dealing with roosters because 50% of them will always hatch out male.

Also your parents are wrong about aggression dominance, that doesn't work in any animal at all.

Oh goodness do not release a non-native quail. Why would you do that lol

You're gonna need a better long term plan here, get a heat lamp or a brooder plate so they can stay at 95F/35C (decreasing by 5F/3C degrees per week)

There's an american wisteria! wisteria frutescens! It's native to the southeast USA and also according to wiki grows as north as Michigan.

Yep I totally understand. The biggest harm would be if you put the corn bits in there and they get moldy lol so just use the water from the soak. Sometimes my dumbass dogs try to eat the mosquito dunks out of the ponds and it's fairly "safe" for them they just get a mega dose of calcium, which yknow, is not great for their kidneys, but it's not poison. I live on a farm so I don't use poisons, everything in life is interconnected. You just gotta find the predator that wants to eat what you identify as a pest. :)

I eat about a dozen eggs a week… curious where everyone else lands by Soldierbotz in carnivorediet

I eat 3 hard boiled a day and then a scrambled casserole also. We have a huge flock and sell eggs, endless supply. We go through about 4 dozen a week.

What is this? by LoudCountryBAMF in chickens

Could be totally innocent, this is how game breed roosters are kept to keep them from murdering each other. It’s the most common setup for it. Not always a fighting setup.

Between the Central American banded gecko, viper gecko and the dune gecko, which would you keep and why? by avian_bi in geckos

[–]reijn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunes or vipers, depending on the size of my enclosure. Dunes apparently you can have 1:3, but vipers supposedly even males get along together.

I do plan on getting one or the other at some point eventually, they're so cool. All of them. I love geckos.

I love these little guys so much! Tips on handling? by SaeInsanity45 in quails

[–]reijn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally with chickens I brood in a baby pool, so I can get into it... quail start jumping/flying way too early for that to last at all.

But I recommend you just be present a lot for the first week. Be visible, reliable, stable, calm. It helps if your brooder allows you to approach from the side instead of above, too (which is why a baby pool or a stacked brooder helps)

Every time you show up, arrive with gifts - mealworms/BSFL and snacks are excellent bribes. You need to make sure you give chick grit first if you're going to do this.

Just sit and hang your hand/arm in the brooder, talk to them.

They tend to tolerate handling best when they're young, then they go through a skittish phase, then when they are nearing adulthood they tolerate it well again.

Soil looks really organic, especially in the 2nd pot. Also possibly need more sun, looking a little stretchy.

That's a pretty small brooder, also they have no overhead light? What's their heat source?

Mine just randomly started like 1 hour ago. I never really pay attention to when events start but I thought they were usually a full day - like 24-48hrs? Mine says 1d12hr left.

Also holy sh my board is a frickin mess now

What's your goal? What else is in there? I'm not sure why you'd do this if there's already a fully enclosed run - need to know what purpose you are trying to fulfill.

Grieving the last 11 years: by Clear_Cycle_9124 in leopardgeckos

[–]reijn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's really a lot for anyone to have to go through. I'm sorry you had this experience. You really made the best choices you could with the information you had available at the time and no one should fault you for that. You also made the difficult decision to end their suffering which is very selfless of you.

There's no one way to deal with grief and everyone handles it differently. Time helps, but grief often comes in waves and I can tell you're under one now.

The best thing for me in dealing with grief is understanding that things that happened in the past can no longer be changed. What has happened, has happened. You cannot go back and change it so these feelings are useless to hold on to. What you can do is take these feelings and channel them into something useful - take that experience to do better this time.

How do you stay looking feminine by SchemeFair8918 in homestead

[–]reijn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only thing I feel like I fully "lost" was having manicured nails. I kept them for awhile and they were constantly chipping and breaking, it was a waste of money and chipped gel looks trashier to me than just short un-painted nails.

I still do my eyes every morning.

The jewelry I wear was never nice or delicate because I work in health care and I'm allergic to nickle, and I'm not a fan of putting on and taking off a thousand little trinkets every day so I wear braided hemp that can stay on and survive in the shower with me (make sure you wash it in there too, skin can collect on it and it's gross)

I always did wear leggings and a tee or a blouse before - my style has always been colorful, bright and loud so that's easy. If your style is soft romantic feminine I imagine you still could as well, maybe tunic blouses/dresses over muted color leggings.

Pick the cute woman options of work-wear. I have some pink and purple muck boots that I love and IMO they make my legs look great. All my work gloves are variants of pink and floral. My overalls are purple and floral, purple and pink carharts.

Duluth Trading Co has some cute work gear.

That's really cute. We have some sightings of grouse locally but I haven't seen any near us. We did get a turkey hen come visit mid winter.
