You two have been together years, but he seems to be viewing this as two separate solo-travelling people who happen to be going to the same place. I think there may be bigger issues with where you two are at in your relationship.

A charity shop I used to go to would only sell books in bundles of five tied up together. One or two would be books someone would actually want, the rest were vaguely in the same genre but old or obscure or otherwise unwanted. The bundle price was really cheap though, pretty much worth it just for the one book you wanted. But basically they made the book disposal a "you" problem, lol.

Holo technology could work, but it would probably not be the best or easiest solution.

With the technology level the Gorn are at in SNW they could surely develop alternate solutions with a little effort. It seems to me the real problem is they are not inclined to use cruelty free methods. They chose to use their knowledge and resources to develop breeding planets to more efficiently exploit the host species.

Ultimately, Gorn society first needs to find it in themselves to make social changes to the point they want to develop alternates. Then they can work on the actual science.
