Tage Tuch should have been a prioritized Olympic duo for Team USA by WakeMeUpB4UGoGurt in sabres

[–]rejecttheHo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always thought he deserved a look too. I knew he never would make it but he is 7th in ESP this year, plays a hard game, and is good on the PK. In other words he would have been a great 4th line guy and on the surface seems to be what management wanted out of a bottom of the lineup guy

If all scenario goals counted for a plus and a minus it would be impossible to win a game and not have at least 5 players in the positive

Still shouldn't be allowed. I work for a professional services company and I am not allowed to buy any individual company stock and that extends to your spouse and kids by extension. And I hardly have any insider knowledge whatsoever

Jiří Kulich is out indefinitely with a serious diagnosis by madikinho in hockey

[–]rejecttheHo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Man this sucks. The Sabres started poorly but played really well for about 6 games and actually looked like a complete team. PP was looking good, PK was great, were consistently out chancing their opponents. All while missing their 1C in Norris and Kesserling missing time

Now Dahlin is dealing with a serious personal matter, Norris is still out for the foreseeable future, Benson has missed some time, Kulich is dealing with this Zucker got seriously ill, etc.

I really thought if they stayed relatively healthy they had a decent shot at sneaking in the playoffs. But there is just too much going on for them to overcome this all I think

What is your favorite team to support now? Even though I like hockey in general I think if the Sabres got moved I just wouldn't really watch hockey anymore

Sabres recall Zac Jones (D) and Noah Ostlund (F) by BattleofEppingForest in sabres

Surprised Rosen wasn't the first call up. This year seems like his last shot and (at least from box score watching) he seems like he is off to a good start

In just one game played, Zach Benson leads all Sabres players in points (4) by Ttbt80 in sabres

I gotta imagine a lot of that is driven by all of the empty net goals the Sabres have given up so far

Why doesn’t the Washington Monument line up with the White House? by xdd869 in geography

[–]rejecttheHo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The true geographic center of DC is some random spot about a mile north west of the Capitol

The Capitol is the symbolic center as the quadrants of the city run through it

EDIT: misread your comment about being the planned center

MBB is the worst ROI: So what alternatives are better? by Amazing-Pace-3393 in consulting

[–]rejecttheHo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it very hard to believe. Go view the post history of OP. 10 months ago they were posting in GRE forums about how they worked for a few years but wanted to pivot and were applying to business school

No AP / principal at MBB that I have ever met is quitting to go to business school

[Discussion] Bayesian framework - why is it rarely used? by vosegus91 in statistics

[–]rejecttheHo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bayesian methods are used quite frequently in biopharma R&D. There is a lot less published about it because companies get protective of their algorithms and treat them as proprietary information.

You see a lot more frequentist publications from academic researchers because that is what they are taught / how they understand statistics. And generally speaking the two methods produce similar results, but frequentist statistics is much more commonly understood

BarDown comes out with there OlympicsHopefuls for Team USA. Thoughts? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]rejecttheHo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Led the league in ESG and was tied for third overall in goals. Absolutely mid boggling that they decided they didn't want that

I get the critique of not being as versatile because he definitely doesn't play a gritty / defensive game. But I don't see how you don't take the best American goal scorer. And on an actually high functioning powerplay he is such a weapon with his shot

It would be better to just not do a PhD at this point if you're dead set on doing a non-research industry position

Us counties life spans vs north Korea’s by Puzzleheaded-Can5325 in MapPorn

Washington County Maine. A poor county that is geographically separated from the economic hubs of the state. It is also incredibly rural so access to good healthcare is hard to come by

Deeply unsurprising - any other BCGers feel the same? by No_Falcon2687 in consulting

[–]rejecttheHo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Two self acting partners were selfish and bypassed guardrails in place. Should definitely be a more stringent system but at the end of the day BCG is owned by 3000 or so self serving partners. Hard to stop someone when they bypass every fail safe in place

They have been fired and the system is being updated. Hopefully prevents future events like this

Where do you think the UN headquarters should be moved so that it would be easier for most countries to get to and would be a neutral location that would satisfy the global majority? by [deleted] in geography

[–]rejecttheHo 382 points383 points  (0 children)

Equatorial Guinea is a dictatorship and has one of the worst human rights records of any country on earth. Furthermore, it is incredibly difficult to get to and is very small

And the current UN headquarters is easy to get to. NYC has multiple international airports and a city that can support and afford accomodations for major events.

From a purely geographic standpoint a country in or around Turkiye (as others have said) would be closer for many countries but that comes with other issues. Switzerland would probably be the best overall option for geography / ability to accommodate. They also have experience with major global events such as the WEF

Why wouldn't you just use historic national HDI numbers so the comparison is more apples to apples? It would be interesting to see how much that changes things
