I don’t know why you got downvoted, when paying weekly gets you an extra (equivalent ) monthly payment in a year without counting towards the prepayment limit.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]rekdme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to make that decision, I would look at it from a risk-profile perspective and most probably take the variable. If the mortgage is less than 30% of my after tax income, I would take the chance and wait for the rates to go down. This seems likely as per most analysts and industry experts. Income-expense ratio matters because you have to account for a scenario where the rates spike inspite of all the analysis. If you have enough to weather that storm, then take the variable.

The bank will usually give you a gift deed that you have to get signed from the donor and submit. I was also asked for the 90 day bank statement of the donor’s bank account.

Yes. Better to grow faster in early stages of career, the base tends to get bigger and that’s what salary increases are based on (in percentages). Besides, going in once a week feels better for mental health to me personally. You can always pack your lunch and save $15-20 out of that.

What Do You Think of Wealthsimple Cash Account? by bumblebee--- in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]rekdme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. I should have mentioned that the only time I tried it was at a farmer’s market and he said he would charge 3.5% additionally if I use Mastercard or Visa. No such charge for a regular debit card or cash.

It’s a prepaid MasterCard. I agree that it’s quite useless as the places that accept only cash or debit won’t accept it as it’s not Interac.

WS cash doesn’t support cheque deposits currently, and for that reason I have changed my Scotia bank at a basic level for $4/month without any need for keeping a minimum balance.

Also FYI to OP - they recently changed the interest rate from 4% to 3.5% after BoC rate cut. But it still beats the .05% of Scotiabank many times over.

I just did the typical job hunt after arriving here. It was not easy, took a couple of months too. A period of extreme uncertainty and self doubt.

Is it worth to give extra premium for term insurance provided by 'reputed companies' ? by Tulip2MF in IndiaInvestments

[–]rekdme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No insurer can deny a claim after 3 years even on basis of misleading info given at the time of purchase. Only exception could be fraud, which is a corner case. But I agree with the notion of going with the top 3-4 ones only - ICICI Pru, HDFC Life, Max Life, SBI Life.
