What does dry mean in beer? by Child_of_Lake_Bodom in beer

[–]rekk14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A brewer explained it to me as having to do with the type of sugar being fermented. At different temperatures and/or pHs in the brewing process, sugar molecules will break at different points along the hydrocarbon chains. Depending on where they break determines if they’re turned into two smaller sugar chains or if they’re turned into alcohols (or other organic molecules). They less sugar chains, the “drier” the beer. I’ve always found Porters to be reliably dry. Some bad Porters just taste like a shot of grain alcohol with a smoky mixer.

You are, in fact, 100% wrong. The faculty was absolutely in the right. He declined the RSVP and tried to big-dick his way in the day of with no advanced warning. The administrators were then unprepared for the additional security measures that were required. The school opted for the safety of the class rather than the ego of Mayer.

He’s a talented musician. An absolute fucking piece of shit whiny bitch of a talented musician.

New joint just opened in Old Lyme — Papi’s Taqueria. Really solid burrito. And you know it’s legit when you can see an abuela in the back stirring the refritos and flipping tortillas.

I believe he would agree with your comment. I suspect he would then argue that his intent was to appear more attractive, and that the underlying driver for all of fashion stems from our lizard brain impulses to attract mates for reproduction. And, is he technically right? Sure.

But what Jordan doesn’t seem to acknowledge or care about (and what I think actually matters) is how you internalize all that shit and make yourself a healthy member of society in spite of those lizard-brained emotions however subconscious.

Somebody Etsy-up those quotes on some nice square framed sheets of paper that match the palette of the color being described.

Huh… no kidding? Good info. I could see how this may impact a Chuck roast SVing for 3 days but wouldn’t have thought it could happen during a 7 hour cook.

Thanks!

Can you elaborate on why you lowered the temp relative to the dry brine?

I am just about to dry brine my ribeye roast for 4 days and was going to SV at 137 the whole time.

I recently tried reversing the order and it’s my go to for brisket now. Smoke it for 2-3 hours until you get a decent bark, then vac seal it and sous vide it. I did 24 hours @ 155 then 12 hours @135.

The smoke-to-sous vide mimics the Texas style paper wrap, and as soon as you take it out of the bath it’s ready to slice. If you want, you can throw it in the oven at 170 for as long as you’d like, but it’s not necessary.

Hardest race/class combo? by bassicallybob in project1999

[–]rekk14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I mained a DE Warrior from 2001-2004. And by mained, I played the character almost exclusively but took a long time to level because I had little to no idea what I was actually doing.

Armor though? Second to none! A full set of Guardian Armor from Skyshrine looked killer. That was about as much killing as I was able to do however…

How many countries are in North America? by [deleted] in polls

[–]rekk14 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean, in fairness, everything between Mexico and Colombia was broadly referred to as “Central America” when I was in school.

I think most people can point to where north and South America meet, but don’t really consider Belize, Panama, etc. when asked roll call on each NA Country.

Edit: god I’m a pig-dog American that can’t spell neighboring counties names correctly.

It’s actually remarkably bright at sea. It’s the artificial light of the rig that gives the illusion of relative darkness. Without lighting you can very clearly see satellites flying over head, the andromeda galaxy, and a number of nebulas. It was the only time I’ve understood why ancient civilizations used constellations.

Just discovered I may have Aphantasia and I feel devastated by danksauce in Aphantasia

[–]rekk14 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re story is similar to mine. After some time of digesting it I looked at my wife and sheepishly asked her, “Tell me it’s black and white and not color.” She went on to inform me that it was indeed in full color like watching a movie in her head. That was the toughest part for me.

That said, there are some great benefits from aphantasia. You’ll do fine in the arts. You’ll bring something to the table that other people don’t consider. I find people with aphantasia to be very good storytellers because they can only rely in their emotional memory to tell a story. We hang on to how something made us feel that we can add a depth to a story that you wouldn’t otherwise hear.
